The only other high pitched whistle
I know of is what my wife calls the "Tie
Fighter" sound, when the car is at
high speed and high boost. I'll try to
get her to make a recording of
this sound at the next track event so I can
digitize it and post
it.

Nick,
I looked through the sevrice
manual and the "1991 Body - SRS Air Bag
System - Diagnostic Procedures for
Dodge Stealth" manual. I did not
see a procedure to check the SRS error code
without the DRBII tool.
The Diagnostic Manual does list procedures for
testing the
components; the service manual might also.
Here is an
idea. After I had the battery out of my car for months and
then got the
engine going again, the SRS light was on. I followed the
advice in TBS
23-25-94 avaiable at Todd Shelton's web site (link on
the Garage page at my
web site).
http://www.brightok.net/~tds/23-25-94.txtIt
says to turn the ignition key on an off 10 times and see if the
SRS warning
light goes out after that. This worked for me. Otherwise
you probably have to
have a dealer connect a DRBII and tell you the
error codes and associated
parts.
Good luck,
Jeff Lucius,

I have a 91 3000gt sl. My SRS warning light is on. I know that
it
has to do with my airbag. I don't know exactly what to do about
it
though. I don't want to take it to the dealership so they can tax
me
an arm and a leg. For all I know it could be a blown fuse. If
anyone
could provide any alternative solution I would be much

what
year? Daikin (Exedy) makes the OEM clutch. Suspect it's different
for
5 speed or 6 speed but don't know. There are mixed reviews on
Centerforce
and other aftermarket clutches.
How do you intend to use
your car? Is it highly modified? The OEM clutch
is generally
regarded as adequate for most purposes.

No need to
bother with the transaxle. Just remove the downpipe
(remove its 4 nuts and
let hang). Detailed intructions at my web page

LOL! Yeah, you'll always be a "3S-er". And now you'll be

from the

Team3S: OT: For Sale: '93 3000GT-VR4 w/ 75k miles
Unfortunately, I need
to get rid of my vr4. I don't have the time or
money to put into it
that this car deserves. First, some info about the
car:
VIN:
JA3BN74K8PY003172
Year: 1993
Mileage: ~75000
Color: Red
Model:
3000gt-vr4
Location: Rochester, NY
Carfax reports a "potential mileage
rollback" of 84 miles. I attribute
this to a misentry on the part of
either the previous owner or the
dealership I bought the car from...
?
About this car: I bought this car 2 years ago w/ 52000 miles on
it. I
loved it the first time I drove it and had to have it. It
is just as you
would expect a vr4 to be, fast as hell. :> I've
thoroughly enjoyed owning
it, but I need to save some money and want to sell
it to someone who would
take good care of it. Hence, I'm emailing the
Team3S list first.
There are some problems with this car, nothing major,
but they need
someone who's interested in maintaining a VR4:
Things
the car could use:
New rotors and pads up front, and possibly all
around. The front rotors
are slightly warped, so there's a bit of a
wiggle slowing from high speed
or during hard braking.
The car could
use a new paint job. After 8 years, it's showing its age.
It has some
chips and the area around the mitsu logo up front has lines
forming in
it.
The stock rims need to be rechromed. Or you could put on
aftermarket
wheels. The chrome is chipping and the wheels do not look
good close up.
There's a spot on the passenger-side rear bumper where the
car was bumped
before I bought it. It has been touched up and is
noticeable if you look.
The leather interior is beginning to show its
age.
Aftermarket sunroof could use some work. (I didn't put this in, was
a
previous owners doing).
The active aero in the back doesn't function
properly. It goes up, but
won't come down unless it rains. I
leave it off. This is a known
problem, afaik, and there are cleaning
procedures that should resolve it,
i just never had the time.
-
-----
Ok, so that sounds like a lot of stuff wrong with the car, but the
only
really big issue is the brakes. From 20 feet, this car still
looks
incredible. With an owner who's interested in really giving her
the care
she needs, it could look even better.
I wanted to be totally
up-front about the problems with the car so that a
potential buyer would be
aware of them before the purchase and not after.
http://www.andrewburke.org/car/Here
are some shots of the car from 2 years ago when I bought it. The
car
looks the same from that distance. The exterior shots are really
the best
ones there. I will try to get some newer photos of the car
soon,
especially if I get responses on this.
Things i've added to the
car:
Interior lights are red, to match the exterior. This is
easily
reversible.
6-disc trunk-mounted cd-changer.
-
-----
Summary: I have never had a major problem with this
car. The
transmission was supposedly replaced before I bought it.
I've had
all major services performed and have changed the oil with synthetic
every
3000 miles. This is a great car and I will miss it (i'm being
relegated
to driving an automatic accord, ugh) but it really needs someone
who has
the time and money to invest in it. I'd like to see it go to a
good home
:>
I'm basically going to sell for Best Offer, but i'd
like to get somewhere
around 10k for it. If you're interested, or have
more question, please
email me back privately.
Sorry for the off-topic
post, but I would really like this car to go to
someone who'd treat it right,
and where better to look than the Team3S
list?

Misc. Info.-
I just bought a 2001 Lexus ES300, which
lists 90,000
miles as the "change the timing belt" point.
Another
point I thought unusual, the valve lash lifters are
mechanical,
and must to be adjusted periodically.

Unofficially, I turned a 1:21 w/o chicane
in the VR4 and a 1:16.5 in the
Viper. With the Chicane I got to 1:33 with
the VR4 and 1:28 with the
Viper. In general, anything below 1:30 w/o

w/chicane are considered good times. In the Porche

weekend, they were turning 1:27 to 1:32 w/chicane.

I would be very nervous driving your car with
that setup. If the center of
the wheel still contacts the center
diameter of the axle then you "should"
be ok. If the center of the
wheel does not locate on the center hub then
you run the risk of the wheel
moving off center. Even though the lugs

would not rely on the studs not bending under

I wouldn't do anything foolish like drive over 10 mph
---The wheels are
hub centric and may cause a balance problem. The 1/10"
probably won't
cause a stud problem but I sure wouldn't hot rod with that
setup.

Jay, Last time I brought up the
subject of new car, it was suggested to
me that the Lancer EVO would be
importing to the US shortly. I don't
know if it is something you are
interested in, but if it is, you might
want to look into seeing when you
could expect it to arrive. Has anyone
else heard about this?
And
Chris, have a great time in Maui!

I'll be down
at PIR next Friday night to see how the new gears work.
Weird deal on the
VR4 - it came up in conversation that Rhona wanted me
to buy a new car.
James and Lori asked if they could buy the mitsu. We
said yes and they drove
it home. Now I need to get another daily driver
but the house rules are that
it has to be a 4 door. The S4 sounds like a
good win and I really like the
way the 330i drives.

I have heard that the friction between the rim and
hub holds the wheel more that the studs do. If the rim and hub doesn't have
contact the rim will act like a big bolt cutter and snap the studs... In other
words, wait for the right spacers or you may have an serious
accident.

As long as you drive straight and never
brake it is ok ... otherwise use a
very good insurance for your car !! No,
please don't drive the car like
that ! H&R has it's factory closed for 2
weeks in August and the spacers
for the Japanese cars are made upon order
!

I was checking out the Lancer the other day down
the street at the mitsu
dealer. They're nice, but sorry guys, I'm
still not crazy about the body
style of the EVO and WRX....
Anyway my
point was, yes, they're already starting importing them but it may
be hard
to find one still since not all dealers will already have them.

I've already got an aftermarket exhaust (JASMA) and a K&N air

I get some advice on handy mods.
Also what's a safe boost to
have on these cars.
thanks in advance.

RE: Team3S: Teams 3s RE: Car lost Acceleration
Just read an article in
Road and Track or something, that said 60,000 miles
is the maximum safe
replacement interval on timing belts. Even though one
auto company say
120,000 miles, and the Gates belt manufacturer backs them
up, no one has the
nerve to go past 60,000 miles considering the
consequences. The article
also said places where the thermometer makes wide
swings over the year were
harder on belts than normal - they cited Michigan!

Where did you install the flat
washers? Between the hub and the rotor?
Around each wheel stud? Can the
washers move around?
