5 Speed Transmission Question pertaining to a 92 VR 4 with a 25 splines output shaft

I just bought this car about 1 month ago. The car needed the 25 spine output shaft installed in the transmission and also the female spline gear in the transfer case. The person I bought the car from had already purchase both parts from Komex transmission parts.
He stated that the car would not move or would barely move when put in to gear. This is before anything was disassembled on the car.

After replacing the output shaft and the spline in the transfer-case. The car ran fine and went in to all gears perfect! Clutch was fine no slippage. Took the car to get inspected past fine. But when I went to pick up the car would not move as if the transmission would not go into any of the gears nor reverse. When the Clutch is fully released. You can hear something spinning????? Any thoughts  and has anybody run into this issue before and if so how did you fix it with out replacing the transmission?

Thanks
Steve

Nothin like sandpaper in the pits and a good scrub of the pad on the asphalt between sessions.

See it all the time at the races.

Havent had to do it myself..but its not uncommon.

Michael,

Every brand of tranny fluid has the ratings on the container. In
general, since your car is10 years old the specs that were used in the
book are 10 years old. The book says "or equivilant" when it should say
"or better". The higher the numerical rating the better the fluid.  I
personally use a full synthetic in my slushbox and it works great.  I
hope this helps. Also, you will be replacing only what was in the pan,
not the stuff in the torque converter etc.

Piece o' cake.  Once you learn the rhythm to straighten out the Esses, the track is like a long oval with hairpins at both ends, 1/2 mile between turns.  I hit 125 on the front end and 130 on the back, and I could do more, but for pucker.  8-9-10 plays like 6-7-8 at Thunderhill.  Strictly 4th gear for the last 3 bends in the track before both 'hairpins' ('tight sweepers'?).  The Porsche instructor car gets 140+ at both ends with a bad carb.  Come April 1, when the track is extended to 2.4 miles, the front straight will be good for 200mph in race-prepped Porsches.

I like the look of the Lambo(verticle lift)doors on our cars. Has anyone installed these kits, and if so, run into any unexpected problems? I'm thinking of getting a kit.

If clutch pedal movement makes a different sound, this seems a lot like the infamous throw out bearing. You may be able to investigate it without removing the tranny but taking out the clutch slave cylinder and the rubber boot that goes around the clutch fork. One thing to be said, throw out bearing noise is very common on these cars, especially with aftermarket clutches. Noise does not mean failure, as I have had 3 bearings make noise and work fine. If the bearing did break and fall apart in the bell housing, you will need to pull the tranny.

Does it go into gear without the engine running?

I am always amazed at the exponential rate at which drag
consumes HP.

I think our CF = .33 but I could not find any frontal area
numbers for Stealth or 3K. If we have good numbers, ? 20.5 sq ft,
we can send them to http://smokemup.com/auto_math/hp_wind_resistance.php
 to include in their tables.

Automath - Wind Resistance

mph    force (lbs)  HP required
80     108          23
100    169          45
120    244          78
140    332          124

If I remember correctly wind resistance is related to the square (v^2) of velocity. Same idea, but quite a bit different in magnitudes.

Car Test 2000, using a 0.33 coef of drag, predicts a bit more (but similar) power loss due to aerodynamics for our cars.

See: http://www.stealth316.com/images/cartest2000-henn-stealth-loss.gif
http://www.stealth316.com/images/cartest2000-henn-stealth-specs.gif

100 mph : ~50 hp aero loss
120 mph : ~85 hp aero loss
140 mph : ~135 hp aero loss
160 mph : ~200 hp aero loss

Interestingly, their chart shows a required ~300 engine hp to reach ~150 mph.

The kit I am going to get is from importprecision.com. They have many pictures on their site as FAQ., and price. They have a kit that is specifically for the 3000gt/Stealth thus no drilling, no welding, no painting, no rolling of fenders. Included is a wiring harness to extend the existing one.

Where do you get the kits from?

Cheers

No offense, Kurt, but I seriously doubt any 220 HP NA 3S car can do 150 mph. That would be real, measured mph, not speedometer mph. The 155 top speed quoted for the TT 3S cars is measured and not limited by the ECU, at least not on 1st gen cars.

See, for example, the Sports Car International test of the 1991 Stealth TT: 153 mph @ 6750 rpm.  5th gear I would guess.

Actually, you have to cut the wiring harness and splice the new one in.
Also, you have to sand/drill down a small area on each side to make it
fit.

Yes, if you have done somethign wrong and the door alignment is not done well. It's all the mechanics hand.

Also the kit comes naked. To make it perfect you have to paint it in your cars color like matt red as it is at the door hinges.

I'm a reseller for the VLS kit in Europe and will translate the instructions to German when I install it myself. Beside of that it is expensive it is well engineered and of good quality.

The only problem with this kit is that in case of an accident the insurance may refuse paying due to the modification. It must be proved that the structural crash behaviour will not be changed during an accident, neither from the front nor the side and angeled side impact. Also new mounting points are added. But these are not welded in treads or nuts and therefore critical in the eye of the insurances and government. I'm currently figuring out what tests is needed to get the official approval from the TUV so it will not void any insurances. Usually they make tests and crash one of them including a testapplication on a car from the salavage yard. Needless to say that this may become an expensive approval and it is not clear who will pay for that. In the end its maybe just positive thinking and the hope (and
pray) that you'll never get into such a crash.

By the way, this is the same with aftermarket brakes. If the kit went through a test scenario or has an approval from Mitsubishi or the government, everything is fine. If you run into a crash and the inspectors find aftermarket brakes that are not allowed, you're guilty, even when the other crashed into your back.

No discussion on this insurance topic please as it is as it is and varies from case to case.

Subject: Team3S: OT garage layout

Hello all,

Well, I am the new owner of a home with a 24x20x12 garage and am wondering if anyone knows of any sites that have some ideas on shop layout. It would be nice to have an idea on how I want the layout before I move in.
Also, has anyone on the list purchased one of the rollup type garage doors for their home? I am having a hard time finding them.

Thanks,
