The summer before last my left turn  lever stopped returning. I had to

manually do it. The right turn was working okay. However just after I got my car out of winter storage last April, the right turn stopped returning. Has anyone had this problem, and do you know if it is a big deal to repair the cam or whatever might be causing this?

Thanks,,

I will need to purchase tires for my 92 RT TT shortly. I have purchased Z

rated tires prior a couple of times prior but I wanted to know if I have

other options?

My car is mostly a daily driver with long road trips every 2-3 months 400

miles+. My first priority would be treadwear then handling then noise. I

have stock 17" rims.

I am currently looking at

Continental ContiExtremeContact ( Ultra High Performance- All season)

WR Speed Rating

or

Sumitomo HTR+ ( Ultra High Performance- All season)

WR Speed rating

Thoughts... suggestions?

I just spent the past few weeks looking for replacement wheels for my

97 VR4. After narrowing the choice down to Volk GTC ($1600, but light

weight) and Ronals ($1000 and similar to stock weight) I decided to go

with the Ronals since I dont want to dump any more cash into the VR4 at

this point. (60k service coming up, insurance premiums due, needed new

tires also).

I'll let you know how the Ronals work out if you are interested. Where are

you located ? Are you selling your stock rims?

I can't comment on the importance of the speed rating on the tires, but

I will share my experience with the Sumitomo HTR+ tires.  I originally

purchased these tires because I was loooking to sell the car and wanted

something inexpensive to put on it (as the old tires were shot).  I

picked up the HTR+s from Tire Rack and had them installed.

Since then I've put quite a few miles on them (I kinda lost my desire to

sell the car once the DR500s were in).  The HTR+s were on my car for the

Grassroots Motorsports article and I even took them to my first and only

road course experience at Little Talledega.  They do scream loud when

pushed, but they hold really well.  I've never had any issues from them

at all.  Rain, dry... it doesn't matter.  They do their job well.  For

the money I don't think they can be beat.  Even after the abuse I have

put mine through they still show great tread.

I'll find out how well they 60' once the drag racing season gets going

again.  I'm pretty sure they will hold up to 1.7 60' times, but I

won't know for sure until I do it.  :)

Hi Greg,

I did the same thing- just couldn't pass up a deal on eBay, and couldn't

afford the Z-rated tires.

The only problem I ran in to was trying to find a shop to put non Z-rated

trires on!  Since Mitsu specifies Z-rated tires, I had to go to about 3-4

shops before I found one that would mount the tires on my rims and install

them on the car.  I had a couple of shops that were willing to mount the

tires on the rims, but wouldn't put the rims on my car!  I finally managed

to convince Discount Tire to do it since the tires had identical ratings to

what was specified by Mitsu except for the speed rating, but it did take

some looking around.  For a while I thought I was going to have four brand

new tires that no one would install unto my car!

Just thought you might want to be aware of this unexpected difficulty; it

really surprised me that it was such a big deal to so many places, even

though the size and all other specs except for the speed rating were as

recommended by Mitsubishi!

As long as they are V rated or higher, they shouldn't give you any problem.

Z is actually an older term that has since basically been replaced by V, W,

and Y, though many manufacturers still use Z. Any tire shop should know that

Z is not necessarily better than V, W, or Y...

Here are the ratings:

V - 149 MPH

W - 168 MPH

Y - 186 MPH

Z - 149+ MPH

I would also highly recommend the HTR+s. Best high performance all season

bang for your buck IMHO. They are my daily drivers, as well as my pouring

rain tire for the track, and they don't do half bad in snow.

havn't tried a wet test yet, it was pretty frigid out when I did this, around 30 degrees. double

tripple and quadrouple checked the low cylinder, got the same value each time (just a hair over 90).

How bad is this?

Should just that one cylinder being low cause all the problems I'm getting with boost or should I be

looking elsewhere as well?

I would be very very concerned....  I believe low service limit is 120

psi.  I would definitely make sure to try again on a warm motor.  My

Talon had 150-155 compression across all 4 (7.8:1 static CR), with 150k

miles on the motor....

Sounds like you have some piston ring wear...

I just realized I'm a moron and forgot to warm up the engine before testing the compression... That

might change the numbers a bit...

I'll do a warm test and a wet test tomarrow if I get time, hopefully I see some better numbers!!!

Subject: Re: Team3S: Turbo and NA 328-355mm StopTech Brake Kits!

Erik,

What I least want to do is start a discussion "my kit versus yours". TCE

kits are different. Last time I checked the TCE site these kits were not

listed there, so I did not know that they were already available, sorry.

The price looks good. The performance, perhaps too, on the bigger kit.

However you can't just say that  my 332x32mm kit is "practically identical"

to one of the TCE kits because the kits are not even similar except for the

rotor dimensions. Just compare each kit component at a time from rotors, to

hats, to calipers, to brake pads.

Todd is a great guy and this far his kits work fine for the cars he worked

on. We chatted via email but a cooperation did not happen because we have

similar resources and capabilities but he is about 2K miles away from me,

so communication and logistics become real issues. This is where it ended

until he started posting various questions about my kits on 3Si in not a

very friendly manner. I like answering questions about my products but his

questions obviously do not have an aim to buy my stuff. He does not have a

3/S car to use in on. Please ask him not to waste his efforts because he

will not win or gain anything by doing this. That is my friendly suggestion.

I am in a way a competitor to TCE, because I make my own kits, but Roger is

not. If he liked Wilwood kits he would be already distributing them in

Europe just like any other kits. I have my own reasons not to use Wilwood

calipers and this is a result of many months or technical research of all

major US and foreign brake manufacturers. This is about as much as I want

so say about Wilwood without sounding as if I am trying to discredit their

products.

As far as the rear kits go, do I have to post preview pictures and list

them as "available" on my website too? The first rear kit is sold and will

be ready to ship in two weeks. Others will come when I get a positive

feedback. Parking brake is included.

Each local division can call their cars limited edition and there is a

little special like the color. Here in Switzerland the "special edition"

are the black first gen cars without sun roof. In Germany there was a

special edition called Beckenbauer that came with 17" OZ Futura 3-piece

wheels, Remus mufflers and colored in yellow or red. So it might be that

you have a strange color combination or non-standard rims. The exhaust only

exists in Europe. It's also easy that an owner put a sticker on it.

Start the car, let it warm up.  Open the oil cap.  If there is lots of

air / oil coming out, could be a sign of a motor on it's way out.

That's generally blow by.  If you don't get it at idle, it is probably

doing it under boost.  Do a compression check to ensure all cylinders

are ok.  Chance are it's just a gasket / o-ring on the cap, but I've

never heard of one leaking that badly...
