Checked the pressure sensor, it isn't reading correctly. According to manual it should be around

1.74 volts at atmosphere, it reads 1.44 volts! Anyway I can clean it out or something or do I just

need to buy a new one?

Subject: Team3S: engine dressup question

I suppose I'm going a bit farther than most people would but...that's the

way I am.

I'm in the middle of some more engine detailing over the winter and one of

the things I wanted to do was clean up my ign coils.  They are 13 years old

now and they show.  The paint is flaking off and then are a sore-spot in my

engine bay.  I'm wondering, is there any problem with sanding down the coils

and painting with high temp primer and paint?  I'm kinda worried about

sanding down the coil/transformer part on the stock coils where its "ridged"

with a bunch of lines... seem to me like an electric field would be

generated in that area, like a transformer, to create that level of high

voltage.  Would sanding this down a bit to make it acceptable for painting

cause a problem?  Just curious.   I just dont' want everything to go boom,

heh.

I also dont feel like shelling out $100 for new coils from Mitsu.... Plus, I

want to paint them red instead of the standard black.   I'm just too cheap

to spent $300 for a set of aftermarket coils when I don't really NEED them

on a basic BPU car....

Remember reading about that just recently actually...

Not really the same drivetrain setup...  Our center diff and viscous is significantly different than on the DSMs, and the viscous isn't right on the end of the shaft where you can easily get at it.

Sorry, what I should have put, is that it is the same labor to remove

the transfer case and tranny (for the most part), therefore getting to

the coupler is very similar...

My brother-in-law just got "sponsered" by racerxmotorsports and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them.  I know they are supposed to be the sponsers behind Jack Sheppard, but under thier sponsers they list him.  Also, if it isn't a "scam" as my husband is afraid of, then do they send money after the contracts, or just the value of the contract in parts you choose?

Thank you,

Basically what it is is you send them $80, they offer you products at a discount from MSRP, from

what I've heard the prices arn't too good either...

Correct.  All passenger vehicles made after November 2003 must have tire

pressure monitoring systems.

Chuck is right. Classic case of the Y-pipe coming off. The way you describe

it is exactly what happens. Look at the end of the Y-pipe, where it goes

into the big air box at the rear of the engine. If you see an opening, the

Y-pipe came off.

It's an easy fix -- a screwdriver, lots of cursing, and some torn

fingernails, and it goes right back on.  Just loosen the clamp where it

goes into the air box, and wiggle it back one there.  Make absolutely sure

the inner rubber gasket gets positioned correctly. If the Y-pipe slides on

easily, that means you don't have the gasket on correctly, or the gasket is

missing (look inside the air box for it).

If the Y-pipe came off once, it'll probably come off again. So after you

get it back on there, jam a tennis ball between the Y-pipe and the battery,

and it'll stay on.

Been there, done all of the above. Y-pipes coming off are like crashed disk

drives: if it hasn't happened to you yet, it will.

Subject: Team3S: My super tuner strikes

My tuner, Mike Willis from Des Moines, diagnosed an ailing car, and I

thought the group oughta know about it, cuz (to me) it was an interesting

problem and solution. I have never heard this one before.

It was a Stealth TT, and it was hesitating, spitting, idling rough, and so

on.

Mike had already ruled out spark, fuel, and so on, so it was time for some

advanced diagnostics, such as a system pressure check, data logging, etc.

Mike spotted the "tour/sport" light flashing, so he disconnected the

electronic suspension somehow and it cured the sputter. It seems, according

to Mike, that when the wiring goes bad on a strut, the car computer may

misinterpret the resulting weird signals from the electronic suspension as

abrupt changes in speed and adjust the air/fuel mix erroneously (I didn't

quite follow all this logic).

Suffice it to say, if you have a sputtering TT, and your tour/sport

suspension light is flashing, there might be a connection.

By the bye, we now have two local TT cars that have busted connectors on

their front struts. Is there an easy replacement for the connector that

plugs into the strut?

Doubtful it's the strut wiring if that cured the problem.  There are

other sensors in that system as well.  For instance, the vehicle speed

sensor may have been affected by a faulty ECS computer.  That would be

my guess at least.  There is also a G-sensor and a steering wheel

angular sensor that are parts of the system.  Again, my guess being a

faulty vehicle speed sensor.

Almost any shop .. .depending on what do you want.

> What are the benefits of water v water/alcohol injection?

The engineers of the WIS systems do not recommend spraying alcohol into the

intake path. Especially some pumps do not like the alcohol on their O-Rings

as well as uncontrolled conditions may appear. An alcohol mix of 10% is good

to prevent freezing in winter.

> Do I need a metal Y pipe, or can it be installed in the plastic stock

See above, if you inject water I do not recommend a cheap steel y-pipe. My

first setup was on the stock y-pipe.

I guess what I should've asked is: how much disassembly does it take to get at the viscous coupler and center differential units once you've got the transaxle off the car?

I assume that it wouldn't be possible to tear it down far enough with the tranny still on the car, correct?
