They wont make money that way, Pete. Rather, they will SURCHARGE
customers who own cars that do NOT have this technology! Like they do now
with airbags, theft alarms, etc.

Subject: RE: Team3S: Rim problem part 2
Try Tirerack. I just bought a new wheel and tire package from
them. They are topnotch. Customer service is A+. I spend
months exchanging e-mails with Riley from TR before I finally decided to buy by
SSR-GT3s. Then, one of the wheels came in scratched. I made one
telephone call, and a replacement was on its way. The next day, UPS picked
up my scratched one, and the next day I received a new one. Plus, the
prices are really competitive considering what you get. If you get the
wheel/tire package, the wheels come in balanced, you'll get all new hardware
(and spacers if necessary), the "right" socket for your new hardware, and any
special tools you need to fill the tire. All you need to do is mount them
on the car and shine them up.
If you hit the TR site, you can see what they have available, and then look
at the rim on your car.

No one in NJ will do it, so I would have to ship them to PA to get it
done. THis would be a last resort."

Subject: Team3S: Tranny Question
Quick question for you tranny gurus. I recall reading somewhere
(Rich, perhaps you posted this before) about how the hex nut on the end of the
tranny shaft can come loose and cause all sorts of problems, some of which can
be disastrous. From what I recall, one of the first symptoms is the tranny
popping out of reverse. Is this true for the 5speed, 6speed, or
both?

Subject: RE: Team3S: Tire Pressure Monitors
This is probably the area where the Federal government could help. If
they
mandate those tire pressure monitors, like they did with air bags,
then
they will be on every new car and the price will come down several
times.
How often do we see those moms stranded on a curb with a cell phone
in
their hand and a tire that has been all chewed up? I personally chewed up
a
tire once on a borrowed car, I could not tell the difference, cost me a
lot
of money for that one new OEM tire. Those 18 wheeler drivers drive
their
rigs too until they notice chunks or rubber flying from underneath
their
trailers. And everybody is afraid to drive next to them and signal
them
when they drive like that on tires that are half-flat and wobble. Last
year
I signalled maybe 3-5 trucks that their tires were flat of were
getting
flat. A $50 dollar factory installed tire pressure monitoring system
would
pay for itself twice over the moment it saves its first tire.

Undoubtedly you are both right. I should have thought that one
through
better.
As much as I would LOVE to have the technology (especially on any vehicle
my
wife or daughter drives) I would also hate to be legislated into paying
for
it, it would NOT be cheap at first. Corporations have a way of NOT
passing
savings on to customers anymore. They simply raise the bar across the
board
and call it profits.
It IS a great idea though, on passenger cars more so for the
mechanically
challenged then probably the run of the folks on this list who pay
attention
to the feel of their vehicles (OK, an assumption).
And I hear you on the semi-tire rubber dodge, two years ago I had to
actually down shift & floor it to get safely under the trajectory of
an
entire tread with some sidewall still stuck to it. cleared my roof line
by
maybe two feet, scared my passenger white.

I dunno about it coming loose.
In my case, the end of the tranny shaft came through the tranny case,
but
that was because it ran dry.
If you are experiencing ANY weird symptoms with your tranny, the very
first
thing to do is check the fluid level.

Subject: Team3S: VPC HELP!
Ok, I installed my VPC according to the directions. Pressure sensor in the
correct orientation, both
sensors taped into the upper plenum. I cracked open the VPC head unit
itself and I have the Z114918D
chip (MITSUBISHI 3000GT VR-4 1990-1993 Turbo ; 550 Injectors & In-Tank
Fuel Pump - (49 State Car)).
Just FYI for those that don't know, stock is 360cc injectors, so I would
ASSUME! that the VPC would
lean things out 35%, in order to compensate for the larger injectors. I
also got a very nice deal on
some 640cc injectors, so I installed those at the same time I installed the
VPC. So 44% leaner
should compensate for the larger injectors, so I figure if I turn the gain
all the way lean at 2%
per click I should be at around 45%.
Well I hook up datalogger, moment of truth, turn car on. At this point I
have VPC settings all at 12
o'clock, so it should be really rich... Car catches, and then dies as soon
as I let off the starter.
Ok, maybe that is too rich, lean gain and idle out about half way to 9
o'clock, start car. Car
starts!!! Idles at 1200 rpm with an o2 of solid 1.02 volts (I didn't think
it could go that high...)
Ok, still really rich, lean both idle and gain all the way out to 6:30, the
lowest click. Idle is
down to 1000 rpm, and o2 still a solid 1.00 volts. If I hit the throttle
the car will kind of
stumble, o2 bounces around a little then it goes back to being insanely
rich.
Datalogger: Low fuel trim at 80%. IPW around 5.04 ms at idle, as a side
note when I had my 450cc
injectors in with the S-AFC correcting them, my IPW at idle was 2.04 ms.
Unfortunately I don't have
any logs of what the IPW at idle would be with stock injectors, but if I
had to guess my IPW should
be way down at 1.4 or so with this large of an injector.
So now I'm thinking something is wrong with the VPC. Apparently the VPC has
richened up my A:F
instead of leaning it out like I thought it would. So I get my S-AFC and
wire that into the harness,
at the maximum setting of -50% I can get the IPW down to 2.2. And still it
is giving me solid 1 volt
O2's. I know it is really this rich and is not my o2 sensor because clouds
of unspent fuel are
coming out of the exhaust. The VPC manual shows how to check the sensor
voltage for the pressure
sensor, so I'm going to do that in the morning, but what about the
temperature sensor, if that is
wrong then the reading would be too...
Even if I installed my 450cc injectors I would still be richer then I was
before installing the VPC,
so something is wrong here, what else should I check!?!?!
Help!!! I want my car running before this upcoming weekend!!!

Subject: Team3S: Had her towed....
Had to have my 93 RT/TT towed last night. Lots of recent trouble with
idling and engine surging. Checked the vacuum lines and replaced the
ISC/IAC. She still idled at 1200 but the surging mostly stopped. Last
night moving along at 60 and suddenly the engine lurches and I'm going
50, then 40, 30, 20, 10. The engine starts but there's no power.
Where
do I start looking now? ECU?
