Subject: Team3S: new radio compatibility
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a new radio, but want to keep the 6 disc
changer
in the trunk...does anyone know if that is possible? Thanks,

Subject: Team3S: Falken Torque5 wheels
Has anyone had experience with these wheels? I called a shop up in FL
and
they said these would fit our cars (I'm in San Francisco if anyone
can
recommend somewhere closer). I'm looking for replacements for my stock
18"
chromies.
>From what I gather these are the specs we have to go by:
Stock VR4:
18x8.5
Offset 40
Bolt Pattern 5x114.3
Weight: 25lbs
245/40/ZR
Also I need to make sure the wheels are strong enough to support the
VR4
(?) and there is enough clerance for the brakes?
Thanks
Mike

Geoff,
Please accept my condolences. My son tells me that Lingenfelter did
for Corvettes what Hennessy did for 3000GTs and Vipers.

Geoff please pass my condolences onto the family, I had the distinct
honor of talking to John on the telephone back when my Uncle was
tweaking his ZR-1........ Most knowledgeable but down to earth
guy I
had the pleasure to speak with.
Now this is damn shame, I will clutter the list but Hennessy was in
the minor leagues compare to Mr. Lingenfelter

Looking at this link (it's long - might have to copy/paste it to
work):
Looking at the "OEM CD Changer Adapters" and "Adapters & Cables" links,
it
doesn't say that anything will work. That doesn't mean that one of
them
might, but wouldn't know without looking at the cables??? I've never
heard
of anyone that's found one to work.
Let me know if you find something that works!

Subject: Team3S: PST 2-piece CFDS wrap-up
Just for those who were curious about the problems I was having with
the
CFDS install.
Everything is working now.... no vibration, no whirling wobble
noises...
Hit 130-135mph today and didn't find anything that caused me worries.
Looks
like I can hit Road America this spring afterall.
If anyone else ever buys a 2 piece unit, here's what you need to
know:
If you can't re-use your stock DS spacers and insulators from the
center
carrier mount bracket, you will need to buy the following:
(2) MB505283 (upper insulator)
(2) MB505284 (lower insulator)
(2) MB505658 (metal spacer)
(2) MB445005 (locking nut)
(1) MB241174 (spacer set) - THIS IS OPTIONAL
PST will send you a new carrier mount bracket with your 2 piece unit.
However, the engraved marking on the unit that shows you which direction
to
put it on your car is WRONG. There is absolutely NO way it can
possibly be
installed the way they tell you. However, if you flip it around 180
degrees,
it's a perfect fit.
Now, if you're like me, and you don't have the stock DS, you might also
want
to go to a hardware store and buy (6) 3/8" flat washers. You use
these
against the bottom of the car (3 on each side) to LOWER the carrier
bearing
slightly. Without these, it caused my driveshaft to look like an
upside
down "V". Sort of like /\ which caused the bottom part of the
carrier
bearing to rub on the rubber insulator of the carrier mount bracket.
This
is what was causing the whirling wobble noise. Adding those washers
levels
out the front, middle, and rear of the driveshaft instead of being
"upside
down V'ed". I actually only used 2 washers on each side, but I'm
thinking
about adding another just for the extra piece of mind.
Anyways, with the washers added, the DS seems to behave much better.
130-135mph without any problems, can't complain about that.
This whole
process would have been much easier had I a stock DS lying around to
compare
the carrier bearing too but, what can ya do. PST was helpful
throughout the
whole ordeal, especially since I tried the 1 piece unit and had to send
it
back due to vibration problems. There customer service is
really good.
Over and out... Hopefully that's the last you'll ever hear from me
on
driveshaft problems again.

>> keep the 6 disc changer... is possible?
I have not been at this as long as Erik, but my impression has been that CD
changers and similar auxiliary units are very manufacturer specific. For
example, the Sony head unit I just installed in my '92 Stealth TT says it will
work only with Sony CD Changers.
There are other options to an external CD changer. The Honda CR-V EX has an
in-dash 6-CD player in a double-DIN sized unit. I saw an advertisement the other
day for a 5 or 6-CD in-dash head unit that was either single DIN or 1-1/2 DIN.
Plenty of room for any of these in our floor console. But a custom or Scosche
trim panel might be needed in some cases.
The space in the floor console for our radio/audio unit is huge. While it
is super easy to replace the '91-'92 radio/CD payer combo, it is only slightly
more trouble to get rid of or replace the newer units with an external amplifier
(speaker wires run to it, instead of to the dash) and CD changer.
Many modern in-dash head units rival the power output of our factory
external amp setups. Running new wires, if necessary, is not that big a deal.
See the Garage Page at my web site for tips on removing the glovebox, door
panel, and quarter panel; and my battery move web page for running wires along
the door sill.
If the factory head unit, amplifier, or CD changer needs replaced, these
items are often available used on ebay or 3si.org (which also has an audio
forum).
For a better sound, consider just upgrading the factory speakers. For my
'92 the difference in speakers is quite noticeable. I don't know about the
speakers in the newer models. Speaker info is available at my web site and at
3si.org. Erik maintains an audio FAQ at the link below.

Geoff,
It breaks my heart to hear this. John Lingenfelter was nothing
short of a hero and so much more than an inspiration for me. I'm sorry to
hear of such a tragic loss, for you and for the family, and for the fans as
well.

Subject: Team3S: Need Help...
Need Help!
1. It looks like one (or more) ABS speed sensors are not working. The
ABS
light goes off after engine is started, but comes back immediatelly
after
car start moving.
Question: How is it possible to find out which sensor/sensors are
responsible for that? Any shortcuts?
2. It is clear, that air stepper motor is not working in my car. It
was
proven, that stepper motor itself is good. To check harness as the
first
step I was trying to check the resistance between pins 4 - 17 & 5 - 18
of
ECUs connector, assuming it suppose to be ~ 2*28=56 Ohm each. No
success
(there is no continuity at all). Could it be, that the wiring are
going
through some relays?
Question: How to check stepper motor harness in real life?
