I got a new front mount intercooler.  I am wondering

where I can find info on removing the front bumper and

mounting it.  Has anybody had any experience with

this.  I have a '93 VR4.

Thanks,

Do we have to pull the motor to replace the rear header and rear turbo?

If we pull the motor, what else should we do while we have it sitting on a

motor stand?

Oil pump? Main bearings?

It's got 88,000 miles and no apparent problems.

The only reason we'd pull the motor is to put on headers and bigger turbos.

Well whatever the plug is for, I don't need it.  So - I used it to tap into

some power for my new amplified antenna.

In case anyone needs a place to tap into power in the rear and isn't using

that plug:

Red/Black = constant power

Blue = power when key is on "accessory"

Black/White = power when key is on "on"

I'm guessing the pink is for a switch, and black is for ground since they

didn't show any values on the DMM

(I don't know why I waited so long to get a Digital Multi-Meter...  it helps

a LOT)

I use Oil Analyzers, Inc., http://www.oaitesting.com, in Superior, WI as my analyzing

shop.  I send several samples to them and have started to get quite a nice collection

of reports (from me as well as from others).

Note: if you are thinking of sending off a virgin sample of Mobil 1 or Amsoil then

don't - I already have reports of these baseline oils.  Contact me if you are

interested and we'll start to get a little thread going off the side.  A few others

have similar cars to mine ('95 VR-4) with similar miles (95k-130k) so the reports are

close I felt (rather than a '91 VR-4 with 180k and a '97 VR-4 with 20k).  I also have

some reports from folks after two weekends of HPDE stuff.

Let me know.  The power is out here so I'm gonna head out for a while (I like how I

can still surf with no power but that is another trick).

On the webpage for Oil Analyzers, Inc. is a test sample kit for around $20 ($18-25 I

think).  I can send you a spreadsheet of what they report and you can see other

results too.  Let me know.

Yes, very lucky man )

We have to do the test every 2 years (with a sticker on the windshield). The

figures are compared with the original that are done the first time when the

cart gets some plates. If they are out of the tolerance the dealer must fix

this or the car will loose the permit to be driven on official roads. My 93

with an ARCII is simply not able to pass the idle inspection (there is no

other test in Europe) but Mitsu Switzerland just prints out another 1993

3000GT from the gas tester and I pay a few buck more  As my car is more

"stealthy" the cops never see any problems and do not test my car. They do

not even pop-up the hood (filterchargers are highly illegal here). All

Subarus, EVOs and Hondas are nice food for them

Well, it's not the easiest but you can do it with the engine in place. You

can reach the turbo bolts from below and the O2 sensor/precat bolts from the

top. You'll find out what bolt to remove from where

The rear is not a header design but it is a cast manifold with as short

paths as possible. I had tons of problems when I wanted to put some headers

on : they interfered with the rear engine mount, oil return lines and some

other places. It is still questionable if a header design really helps as

the path for the gases is so short. I'd port the exhaust manifold to match

the gasket and some internal bads from casting but that's it. For sure the

rear precat has to be gutted as well at the same time.

If you take the engine out just make sure that the 60k has been done. Oil

pump has never been a problem, water pump of course is to be replaced every

60k. If I had the engine out, of course forged pistons like Manolias or so

would find their place in the engine. Sitting on a crate, with the oil pan

and crank removed the can be well installed from below the engine. New

bearings for the crank and the rods can be isntalled as well the same time.

But IMHO, 88k miles is too early.

Brett which shop sold it to you?  My next question is why didn't they

provide any instructions on how to install it?  Now let me guess you

bought it from GT Pro...........

Not bash them but between my personal experience with their Fuel

System and the luck a friend of mine has had with a 3 sets of there

357 Magnum turbos, I will never buy anything from them ever again nor

will I ever recommend them to anyone else.

Maybe you could post your reports online for all of us to see. I am not

sure I know how to read them correctly and what to look for, so maybe

someone else will notice something peculiar.

LOL! The logo on this pump is such a dead giveaway!

Hi folks,

I have an opportunity to get one of several 1/4" drive torque wrenches to

adjust the tension on my timing belt when I install it.

What would be best? A clicker, a beam, or a break-over? These are used Matco

and Snap-on's. They were used by NASA and still hold the NASA calibration

ratings. They have been surplused (you know our government. Use it for one

project and then sell it at government public sales instead of carrying it

over to another project.)

Thanks
