RE: Team3S: Idle problems
BTW what's the condition of your car? How
many miles, when were the plugs and wires last changed, have you done the 60K
maintenance, etc.
You might have found something in the archives by
searching for "idle hunting".

Subject: Team3S: Idle problems
Recently my 93 rt/tt has
begun surging at idle. The idle jumps to about
2000 rpm after the engine is
warm and surges between 1800-2200 at every
stop light. I know this is a
problem I've read about on the list before
but I can't find anything in the
archives. Any suggestions on the
problem and how to fix
it?

Team3S: Y Pipe gasket
Last year, my local ex-tuner found a
rubber/plastic...er, gadget...of some
sort that is a perfect replacement for
the Y-pipe gasket. Maybe even better
than stock. He hacksawed the end off
some flexible plumbing, piping, or
automotive fixture, and it works great. It
fits so tight, it takes silicon
spray to get the Y-pipe on with the gasket
installed. Yowza!
It has both the internal ridge that fits inside and the
external ridge that
fits flush against the outside, almost as if it was made
for the task.
Something like this:
Outside
ridge
!-----!-

Hacksawed !-----!-
off
here ^ Inside ridge
I don't speak to him
anymore (don't ask), so I am not going to ask him
where he found it.
I
wanted to share this with my Stealth Boys car club buddies here in town,
some
of whom need new gaskets, so I let one take my Y-pipe gasket around to
a
bunch of building supply and hardware stores to see if he could match it
up,
but no luck.
Anybody have any idea of where it came from? Knowing my
ex-tuner, he didn't
pay more than a couple of bucks for whatever it is, so it
is probably some
easily obtainable part. Or maybe it's just something he
found in an old car
and said, "Hey, I bet this would work." With my luck,
it'll be the heater
duct for a 1957 Edsel.

Don't got. Looks just like the stock Ypipe gasket, without the
ridges.

Knowing my ex tuner, it must be
cheap.

Looks Like a few
of those designers in Ca (Hyland Park) are still around "and
Working Hard"
Please take a look at the attached Link
http://www.modernracer.com/index.html>
This New Charger has a lot of Stealth (E) Lines to her :) Due Out
Late
2004 it will be a 2005 Model. From what this article reads,
A rear drive
sedan , the car has a long hood, Low Profiles , and TONS of V- 8
Power (NICE
:)
> Courtesy of an all new HEMI (that's Right - Hemi)
power house. A lower V-6
model may be also be offered, along with All
Wheel Drive Variations. Of
course, it also packs numerous Mercedes Benz
parts.
- ----------------------->
Not surprising that it's a
hemi... The original (ca. '85) Stealth prototype
was a mid-engine,
4-banger hemi. Those useless side vents on our cars were
originally
meant to *do* something - cool the engine. Hopefully, they won't
stick
a Getrag tranny in the new Charger... ;-)

RE: Team3S: 91 stealth
Hi Norm,
I have 93 3000GTSL autobox. They are
dogs off the line because their gearing
is SO high for fuel economy on the
highway.
They also tend NOT to downshift to first well from a run. Try
holding it
down in first coming off the line, if you feel a difference it's
because
your tranny is not downshifting correctly, mine often does not. It
can stay
in second, even after a dead stop.
One way to get around this
gearing issue is to get smaller diameter tires
for the front end, don't think
anyone sells bigger ring gears for the final
output.
This is all assuming
your car is running fairly well to start with.
Not a lot of NA drivers on
this list, even smaller list of autobox owners.

Team3S: Major engine problem and question
Hi Team3S-
My 92 Stealth
R/T non-turbo had a major engine failure this morning in
Santa Clara,
CA. Seems it overheated and will barely start which I
suspect is the
water pump. I've got 150k on car and I changed the timing
belt at around 120k
or so. The engine was making a great deal of noise
(sounded like a
truck next to me) at stop lights and finally quit when I
got to a gas
station. I can start it, but it shuts off immediately and
the engine is
steaming. The gauges were not showing any escalation in
temp, so I am
baffled by the cause...
I'm in search of a local mechanic who I can tow
it to for proper
diagnosis and repair. Anyone know a good mechanic near
Santa Clara, CA
and suspect the root cause?
Many thanks for the help
and advice,
Greg
