Subject: Team3S: Ignorance

Hey guys;I know you are busy with your own problems but I would
appreciate it if you could take just a little bit of time to steer me in
the right direction with mine.On the way to work my TT Stealth just
quit.I could smell "electrical"smoke.Had it towed to Mitsu and tech said
"ecu fried".Pulled ecu sure enough hole thru all layers of board and
alot of smoke damage.Purchased rebuilt ecu and installed.Car still not
running correct.Mitsu tech says coil pack damaged.Replaced with oem coil
pack. Now why can I run the engine up to redline sitting in the driveway
with no problem at all,but under load on the road when I hit 4500-5000
rpm it just craps out. There seems to be a slight difference between just
nailing it and slowly advancing the throttle. If I go easy I get a couple
of hundered more rpms out of it before it gives up,but it sure dosen't
run like it used to.
Could something else have been affected when the ecu shorted out?.Thank
you for your help in this matter!

The other things electrical could include the "ignitor", located UNDER and
separate from the coilpack...it could have recieved some nasty
voltage/amperage when the ECU melted down and who knows what volts/amps got
shunted where when that was happening; and the Mass Air Sensor, the thing
just after the airfilter that measures the air volume.  I would have thought
the MAS would be affected all the time not just at high R's but who knows.

Make sure the dealer is involved, because you have a right to a properly
fixed car not a half fixed one that runs like a Camry but not at high rpm/hp
like a Stealth TT should.  Also make sure you get and KEEP the OLD parts
they remove, like your old coilpack (doubt that was damaged but who knows).
Good Luck,
Jack T.

Spun a rod bearing on my 91 VR4, decided to buy a used engine.  Found a
front clip off a 94 vr4 for a great price, do i need to change out the ecu
or any other hoses/wires/connectors...?

Subject: Team3S: Idle problems

Recently my 93 rt/tt has begun surging at idle. The idle jumps to about
2000 rpm after the engine is warm and surges between 1800-2200 at every
stop light. I know this is a problem I've read about on the list before
but I can't find anything in the archives. Any suggestions on the
problem and how to fix it?

Subject: Team3S: Rear quarter pannel

Does anyone know where I can find a factory or aftermarket rear quarter pannel
for a '92 stealth that would be cheaper than a dealership?  I could get one
from a junk yard but I was told a factory replacement pannel is easier to weld
on and less cost for labor.  I might be interested in a used one though (if
someone has one for sale) if I can't find a factory replacement at a
reasonable cost.
  Thanks, Gary

Yes/yes/yes and yes. I suggest you find a 91 Motor.

Sorry folks,
I realized belatedly that some people don't loan tools...especially over
long distances. I apologize for the message.
I have decided to check with Miller tools.
To the only respondent to my post.. Thanks Jim Floyd. I did know the normal
replacement schedule is every 60K miles but the previous owner wasn't real
big on maintenance. Luckily I got the car at 80K miles.

Look for a huge vacuum leak on the intake side. Look for hoses, possibly the y-pipe gasket to the intake.  Some use a homemade kit to pressurize the intake side.  Fix the leak and then disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect so the ecu can relearn the fuel map. You may have to drive it around for awhile for it to relearn.
