I've got a 3kgt FWD and replacing a wheel stud is NOT a piece of cake.  On
my car, the ABS ring is bolted to the back side of the hub and must be taken
off completely to replace the stud.  Don't know if all FWD's are like that,
but mine is.  The only way I found to do that is remove the knuckle , press
the hub off the knuckle with a hydraulic press, remove the ABS ring and
replace the stud.  The dealership offered to do it for me for $100. Wow!
(Mits
has a special tool to use with a wheel puller while the knuckle is in a
vise, I didn't have that tool.  Fortunately, a friend had a press.)  Elapsed
time - two *%&^$&## days!  Two tips - don't buy cheap mag nuts, and use
anti-seize compound.

Good luck,
Larry

Yep, we've heard that. For once, something is easier to do on an AWD car
than it is on a FWD.

Subject: Team3S: xfer case recall outcome

Thought I'd share the final results of the recall for my car, '91 R/T TT
49k miles.

Well, I got the car back with a brand new xfer case.  The
'thud-on-clutch-disengagement' that I used to have is now gone.   Hooray!

I have to say I'm surprised.  I just expected that they would drain and
refill it and call it good.  But I guess they found evidence of seal
leakage and they were conscientious enough to actually remove and inspect
it and find gear damage inside.  The dealer was bellevue dodge in
bellevue, WA.  Out of the recalls they've done I guess my car is only the
second that needed a replacement.

What should I do with a brand new xfer case in the way of fluid?  Should
I put redline MTL in there or leave the dealer-supplied lube in for a
while?  You can reply to me by putting DAVID: at the beginning of the
subject line.  Unfortunately my ISP has blocked all but the digests for
this list (the hosting ISP is on some blacklist or doesn't have correct
reverse DNS, etc.), and I have also set up filters due to the 300+ spams I
get a day.

Subject: Team3S: anyone selling a vr4?

My cousin is looking for one in the bay area, so I'm relaying this
information here. He wants lower mileage (<50k) and 6sp. If anyone is
selling one or know of one for sale, please email me off list.

Thanks,
Alex.

I'm sure you could persuade Philip to fabricate some brackets for you if you
send him a caliper, and select one of his 2-piece rotors ;)

I have already spoken to Jon. I have a few front caliper bracket designs
that may fit, or I could design something new if needed. One of my current
projects is an AP Racing brake kit. The customer wants 1.4" wide rotors
that are larger than 14" in diameter and a set of huge 6" long Carbotech
Bobcat pads to go with it. :-)

I would also suggest checking out the StopTech calipers. They are based on
the Big Reds but have a stiffer design and come in a wide assortment of
piston sizes.

Ok, I found the part, its a standard 5mm roller ball bearing, my local bearing shop had some of em, gave em to me free, I think he said they were around $.03 or so. Just FYI for anyone else who looses them.
