I did the same thing as you.  I got an adaptor and (for a while) a cubby
pocket from Circuit City that works pretty well.  I replaced the cubby with
the RF adaptor panel for my music keg, though, so now it just looks like two
recievers...

There are some aftermarket companies that make the kind of adapter you spoke of.  However, they're a universal-fit, so they don't match exactly in our cars.  At least that was the case with the one I tried.

There is a better (IMHO) option.  Some years/models of 3/S cars have a single-DIN (regular sized) head unit in them instead of the double-DIN ("hulking beast") that many have.  You can buy the parts ("pocket" and trim bezel) from a dealer and have a factory-looking interior.  The trim piece for the dual single-DIN setup is MB604652 ($8.26), and I know the pocket can be ordered.  I couldn't find the pocket's P/N, but the PNC is 85402 and it's called "Box, Stereo Accessory".  IIRC, it was $5-$10.

Hi,

I'm looking for a 1994 VR4 wheel.  It is the chrome one, and I only need one
of them- I managed to bend one of mine somehow.  Somebody told me the
Spyder's have the same wheel, so if you have one of those for sale, it might
work too.  The closer to New Mexico for lower shipping, the better!

Thanks!

Have you condidered making use of one of the Auto Craft Centers at a
military base nearby and learning to to the repairs yourself?  They have
some of the best facilities including  mechanical and paint booths and
people hired to help you figure out how to operate the equipment.  I imaging
it could take you some time, but you might buy a motorcycle or clunker for

Hey everyone! Long time no see. I haven't been around because the network at
work has been down. However, I'm back with another question. I just bought
subs and a new reciever for my car. It's much small than that hulking beast
of a factory stereo. I need an adapter that'll snap in to the old spot, but
fit the new reciever. Something about having a huge hole in my cars center
console isn't too appealing. Does anyone know where I can find one of these
adapters? I've been searching around all morning, and I'm coming up with
nothing. I can't even find anything on crutchfield. Suggestions? anyone,
anyone, bueller bueller has anyone seen ferris bueller? So anyhow, hope to
hear from you guys soon

Subject: Team3S: Still cant find a JDM block

It is bloody impossible to find a JDM TT block for this car!!! I have been
looking for 3 weeks now and of the 60+ places I have contacted I got
responces from 3. First sounds very shady, they are in Canada and will only
take Money Order or Western Union. Second will give me only a "start-up
warranty" which does me no good. I got an engine that starts and runs
perfectly fine, on 5 cylinders.... The third has a rebuilt USDM block and
wants WAY too much.

There has got to be some place to get these! Anyone know of some place I
have yet to contact?!

Thanks,

Subject: Team3S: Gingerman Sep'03 track report

I went to Gingerman last weekend. A two-day event with the SVT Cobra Club,
http://www.svtcobraclub.com. It went AWESOME!!!

I made a few improvements to the car and to the driver before the event and
at the track :-). I ran my upgraded front brakes with thick rotors, all-new
rear brakes with 13" rotors, new so-called "tender springs" installed with
the JIC suspension, a Sparco driver's seat, and I had a set of slicks with
me to try out.

The brakes handled the heat well. Gingerman is the track where I went my
first time ever and wore all the four brake pads to the metal in one day,
warping all my rotors. This time it did not happen, even though my main
goal this time was to test the brakes and stand on them as hard and as long
as I could, even abuse them a little if possible.

The rear 13" rotors worked like champs.
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/SCE_rear_brakes.jpg
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/SCE_brakes_side.jpg
I felt the improved brake torque in the rear, but even then the car was not
spinning out if I trail braked. I will have to do some tests using Flash's
old tires to actually determine the optimal rotor size and brake
proportioning valve settings based on straight line braking. I want to know
if the 13" rotors are an overkill or not. Another part that I need to work
on is the parking brake. I am glad that parking brake does not need track
testing. A parking lot and a hill will do.

I used heat paint on the rotors and a heat strip on one of the front
calipers. The rotors heated up to 1100 F in the front and 900 F in the
rear. The calipers heated up to about 185 C (365 F). That was enough heat
to melt the Enkei rim canter caps on both front wheels!

http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/heat_strip.jpg
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/melted_center_caps.jpg

I think one of my brake caliper pistons got stuck temporarily and I wore
one of the Panther Plus pads in the first day. I did not have a spare set
of race pads with me, but I had my street Axxis Ultimate pads with me.
Lemme tell you guys, these pads keep surprising me. I installed one of them
instead of the worn P+ and it smoked for one session while being bedded but
then ran great til the end of the second day with very little wear.

BTW, Supercar Engineering gave home to a small milling machine.
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/mill.jpg
It will be used to produce prototype and custom parts. I have already used
it to fabricate the rear brake caliper brackets.

I had fabricated some so-called "tender springs", not to be confused with
helper springs, to improve the handling of my JIC suspension. I will have
to write a separate description of what they do, but for now I can tell
that they worked really great. Here is the pic of what they look like
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/SCE_tender_springs.jpg
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/SCE_tender_springs_installed.jpg

I installed them in the rear between track sessions and in the front after
the end of the first day. They made the suspension so unbelievably plush
and handling so smooth that on the second day I was drifting through every
corner and through the whole part of the track with the carousel and the
esses, from turn 7 all the way to turn 10 before the long straightaway
http://www.gingermanraceway.com/specs.html.

The new seat felt great, both at the track and on the road. I would rate
the race seat as my best performance upgrade after the exhaust and the
suspension. It lets me concentrate more on what the car is doing rather be
distracted by being tossed from side to side. I like cloth seats, which
feel much nicer than the cold or hot and sticky leather seats. I still need
to get a 4-point harness for it to hold my back pressed against the seat
better. It was holding my lower body alright, but I was kinda falling our
of it forward in the shoulder area and thus not getting all the lateral
support. I still had to partially support myself with an elbow pressed
against the door. Some habits are hard to let go. I now have an elbow
imprint in the door's upholstery and a sore elbow. :-)

I passed all the snakes that I met at the track (Cobras and Vipers). Then I
installed the slicks and was able to push 100 mph on almost any
straightaway. I got Dunlop "640" slicks from the guy that Jim Berry
recommended. I had them installed on the stock 18 x 8.5" rims, which was
not the best setup, but I just wanted to try and see. They provide great
traction but I will have to fiddle with the cambers and tire pressures as I
have almost corded the left-front tire in just 5 laps.
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/slicks_shoulder_wear.jpg
Check out this picture.
http://www.supercar-engineering.com/img_Ging03/pro_photos/sP9202740.jpg
I do need more negative camber in the front, don't I? I ran -2.25 degrees
when this picture was taken.

My engine was overheating a little, so I had to run the heater most of the
time and back off the gas. I have no way of measuring oil temperatures yet
but I think I need an upgraded oil cooler too since I saw lower oil
pressures when the engine was hot, almost below the lower mark, even though
I ran Mobil1 15W-50. My boost was set to 1 bar and I usually do not keep
the gas pedal floored completely throughout the whole straightaway. Still,
it overheats.

I have done so much wrenching at the track, including tire, brake, spring,
camber, toe changes that one guy told me that he was tired of watching me
work on my car. :-) But it was all good and well worth it.

If someone could share DSO screen copies it would be greatly appreciated. I plan to get a Pico PC-based DSO later this winter and will update the web pages after that with DSO patterns. I should be able to record patterns while driving which should be very interesting.

Anyone here have experience with the Pico setup?

I also could use values from any timing advance maps from our ECUs. I present a DSM map, which should be very similar to ours. But the real thing would be better.

As always, suggestions, corrections, and additions are appreciated.

Subject: Team3S: Wireless sensors/sorta off topic for non techs

It occurs to me that the engineers and developers among us might find this
announcement about wireless sensors very interesting. I dunno how
expensive, but if they are talking game and toy applications, they can't be
too much.   I can see many possibilities for chassis and suspension
measurement and tuning. A knock sensor perhaps? Fuel pressure? Temp? We
could move wireless sensors around, from the disk brakes to the rad to the
intercoolers...lotsa possibilities for developing a data acq system for our
cars.

Forgive me if this is too off topic.
