they make a guage pod you can replace your factory ash tray with. In
the
pic, he has his boost gauge mounted there.
They make a new surround for your dash that can hold a S-AFC or a
Turbo
Timer along with an aftermarket headunit or I would assume
the
factory...saying its a single din...I know mine is on my 92. Or you
can
mount gauges in there...its a duel pod mount.
Just my thoughts

Team3S: Need '91TT engine
Hi all,
The fellow I bought my track TT from needs an engine
for his wife's
91TT. The dealer says it ate a valve
and scored the cylinder beyond
repair.
Does anyone have an engine for sale before he buys one
from an
unknown?
If not, could you suggest where to buy one?
Thanks.
Be of good cheer,
John

There is no best thing. All work fine. Depends what you want....size, look,
features .....

Of course included in the ARC2, Otherwise any place that sells them. Use
google to search., even on ebay.

On the steering column, where else ?? LOL. Of course you will put the
changer into the trunk. There is plenty space unter the carpet when you
move the useless plastic boxes away.

RE: Team3S: Best airflow signal conditioner and aftermarket MAS
For my Blitz SBC-Id and Power Meter ID, I fabricated a hinged, small
plastic plate that I mounted to the headboard just above the rear view mirror. I
mounted both the SBC and the PM to the plate, and ran the wires under the
headboard and down the passenger side A pillar.

Well in alamagordo you have Dynamic Racing probably the premier 3S
tuner
in the country IMHO. Never mind the fact their customer service
has
always been impressive.

Paul, I've had my car serviced at Garcia Mitsubishi for 5 years now.
I
have not had any problems, and after 5 years trust they are honest.
Another list member did have a problem when they did his timing belt,
but I just had my second one done there and no problem. I do beat them
up on pricing when I have to based on prices for parts from other
vendors. Talk to Howard, tell him you're a list member, and see what
you think.

The S-AFC and AFR can work with the stock MAS or with aftermarket setups
(new MAS and controller).
The ARC2 and MAF-T remove the stock MAS and and
replace it with a Ford MAS (ARC2) or GM/Chevy MAS (MAF-T). Each of these has
their own controller and translator. The S-AFC or AFR can be used to "fine-tune"
either of these. The MAF-T setup is a bit less expensive than the ARC2 setup.
There is also the HKS VPC, which eliminates the MAS and guesses at mass air flow
(rather than measures it). There is **lots** of discussion about all these
setups on 3SI. I paid $300 shipped on ebay (from tri-band-mobile) for a new ltd.
ed. S-AFCII. Is that cheaper than an AFR?
Which works best? Depends on what you want. If you want to have the least
amount of pressure loss before the turbo then you must get rid of the factory
MAS and filter and intake hoses. DN makes metal intake pipes that are larger and
smoother-walled than the factory hoses.
The LS1, LS6, and GMS GM MAS's (MAF-T) and GMS Ford MAS (ARC2) have about
the least amount of pressure loss you are going to find (short of using a VPC).
Factory MAS: ~1 psi loss for ~500 cfm
LS1 and GMS: ~0.3 psi loss for
~500 cfm or ~1 psi loss for ~860 cfm
Higher pressure (less loss) before the turbo means (1) turbo reaches
desired output pressure faster and (2) maximum output pressure is higher.
>> - Also, were can I find an aftermarket MAS ? Is Granatelli
motorsports
>> the only place ? How much should I expect to pay for
them ?
There is not really an aftermarket MAS replacement. Only *particular* Ford
or GM MAS's can be used with the ARC2 or MAF-T. I think the S-AFC and AFR do not
translate, meaning that if a Karman (frequency) signal goes in then a Karman
signal goes out, or if a voltage-modulated hot-wire signal goes in (Ford) or a
frequency-modulated hot-wire signal goes in (GM) the same signal goes out. That
is, there is no translation as is done with ARC2 or MAF-T.
Also, you cannot buy the Granatelli Motorsports MAS for the ARC2 from
Granatelli. You can only buy it from GT PRO and other ARC2 dealers (such as
Dynamic Racing). Granatelli told me that the calibration used for this
particular MAS is not used for any of their regular (for sale) Ford products.
Now that does mean we shouldn't try to see if some particular Ford factory or
aftermarket MAS will work with the ARC2. The regular Ford MAS and the GMS MAS
for the ARC2 are both calibrated for 19 lb/hr injectors. More info on these two
MAS's at my web pages below.

Are any list members running the amber rear signal lights. Just wondering
if
they are on when regular part lights are on or not. I believe this to
be
illegal in North America so if you are running these what wiring
changes
were required.

I am having a devil of a time finding synthetic GL4 transmission
lubricant.
Most of what I find is GL5, or GL4/GL5. My understanding is that
anything
with GL5 ingredients can damage the syncros. The stores
(O'Reilly's,
AutoZone) say that GL4 is being phased out.
The manual for my 94 VR4 calls for GL4 lubricant, so that's what I will
put
in there.
Questions: If you recently put GL4 synthetic oil in your tranny, what
brand
did you use and where did you buy it?

Comeon, Rich. What do you guys iun Cedar Rapids use, corn oil?
The first time we bought RedLine products (like MT-90 which is GL-4) we got
them shipped to us from some tuner shop in Frederick Maryland.
Subsequently, we found a local speed shop that stocks it. Have you tried
RedLine direct on the web to see who sells it near you?

Re: Team3S: Whither GS4?
I put Pennzoil Synchromesh Fluid in my transaxle (~2000 miles ago). It is
not synthetic. I removed Red Line MTL/MT-90 mix, which is synthetic. The
Pennzoil made shifting soooo much better. Before the Red Line I had BG in there
(exactly which one I don't know because engine rebuilder changed fluid for me
while engine/trany were out). I noticed no difference going from the BG to the
Red Line. I did notice that occasional grinding when shifting into 2nd gear
disappeared when switching to Pennzoil Synchromesh.
Pennzoil Synchromesh can be purchased at many Auto Zones, but not at the
ones in the Denver (Colorado, not Iowa) metro area. I had to get a case from the
local Pennzoil distributor (like $4.50 a quart). The Quaker State and Texaco
Synchromesh products are identical to the Pennzoil.
Synchromesh is not API rated but does have a gear oil grade of about SAE
80W. Our service manual specifies Hypoid Gear Oil, SAE 75W-90 or 75W-85W
conforming to API classification GL-4.
Many DSM and 3S owners have been quite happy with Synchromesh, including
me. In fact, does anyone know of a complaint?
Red Line is synthetic and can be purchased at some performance auto stores
and online.
BG Synchro Shift II is synthetic and is available on line.

I am in the process of adjusting my rear toe on my no-AWS '95 TT. I am
bewildered. The '95 does not have the AWS steering rack, but it has those
two short tie rods instead. Normally, the way most of the tie rods work,
they have left and right threads on the ends. You twist the middle section
and it becomes shorter or longer. But these tie rods have TWO RIGHT
THREADS! The pitch looks the same too on both ends. How do I adjust these
animals?
If I unscrew one of the ends and flip it 360 degrees, that will be too much
of an adjustment. I only want to go half-revolution. Please help if you
have done this of if you have a 95-96 TT shop manual. Thanks.

Team3S: Trusted Mechanic in Albuquerque, New Mexico for 3S's?
Paul -
I've taken my '94 Stealth to Garcia Mitsubishi. That was about 2
years ago.
They seemed very interested im providing service. The shop
manager listened
to what I had to say and they performed the work completely
and corretly.
The car has run fine for two years since then.
I obtained the car 2 1/2 years ago with only 10.000 miles on it. I
use it
mainly for autocross racing and took it to the Dodge dealer(Zangara)
and
asked if that was a good idea and what I should be careful of with the
car.
They didn't havea clue. They did have a mechanic that worked on
Stealths
and Vipers but he was very non-comittal about how the car should
perform and
how to take care of it.
I then took it to Garcia Mitsubishi.and the shop manager was very
interested
and gave me some very good suggestions on tuning, driving, mods,
etc. He
suggested replacing the timing belt at that time - the car was
seven years
old and he said he would not chance having an old dried cracked
timing belt
break on me. Well, of course they showed me the old belt
and it looked
brand new. It still had the white numbers on it.
But I think he was
correct is suggesting that I start with a know position on
the timing belt.
They also did the tensioner and check the plugs, etc.
I've been back
several times for small parts, screws, questions, and they
alwasy have been
helpful.
Come racing with the SCCA here in town. There is an auto cross Sunday
9/21
at the parking lot just west of the UNM "Pit" I'd like some
competition.

Team3s,
I recently found that
the ball joint boot on my passenger side
front tire has torn. Is that
an easy thing to replace? Will I need any
special tools to remove the
drive shaft or the transmission joint from the
shaft? Any help would be
appreciated and please respond directly to my

Thank you.
