Subject: Team3S: report back from AutoX... awd oversteer!

I just got back from the autocross school and I must say... I never have been so impressed with anything in my life.  I haven't even gotten my rear sway bar installed yet, but I'm able to put so much power to the ground with the new tires that I can oversteer.  Understeer is almost nothing compared to what it was back when I had street tires.  Flash's tip of pumping up the rear helped a lot. I didn't need the 120 lbs of sandbags in the back either. I actually did try one run with it and I was so tail happy that I could barely stay on the course.

Now... the bad news...  I have cords showing (just a tiny bit on the outside of one tire) after only 6 AutoX runs!  I suppose that's what you get when you buy used tires.  Nothing's free, and you get what you pay for. I paid $160 for 4 of those Goodyear GS-CS 245/40/17.  I thought I was ripped off, but many people at the event actually told me that it wasn't too bad of a deal since they're still good enough for tomorrow's event which means 9 runs in total on a tire with 20 treadwear rating and a really heavy car.  I guess I did alright considering that these tires usually go for $200 online to $250 retail each.  Still, this is an expensive sport.  I'm too spoiled to go back to those horrible street tires [squeal squeal squeal understeer]  so it's time to rearrange my spending patterns and drum up some more business! With passion comes motivation ...

What's next?
open track...?

How about if I climb one mountain at a time...

Subject: Team3S: OT: Alpine Head Unit jammed

2 years ago I bought an Alpine Head unit for my car.
about 15 days after I got it I was playing a cd and
the cd got stuck in the head unit and it wouldn't come
out.  I took it back and it was under warrantee so it
was sent to service and fixed for free.  Monday night
I was playing a cd and once again the cd would not
come out when I hit the eject button and Tweeter is
telling me I will have to pay to have it fixed.  I
have hit the reset button several times and I have
disconnected the head unit and reconnected it to try
and get it to work. After talking to some people, I
have found out that I am not the only one that has had
an Alpine head unit jam.  Is there anything else I can
do?  I am going to open up the head unit and take a
look at it unless I get some other suggestions.  The
head unit is a high end model, fully motorized, I
payed a lot of money for this product to brake two
times.  Thanks

Andrew

Subject: Team3S: Install Air/Fuel Meter(s)?

Greetings,

I would like to install an air/fuel gauge on my '92 RT/TT.  The instructions say I can put in a switch & toggle between front & rear banks.  This part I can figure out, but where do I connect the wire(s) to the o2 sensor?

Any help (as always) greatly appreciated.

Subject: Team3S: Stereo Wiring

Hey everyone,

I'm installing an after market radio/cd-player in my stealth and am trying to figure out which wire connects to where. For example the instruction manual says the +12V wire is red but there are no solid red wire, its always a mix like red with black and the ground should be black but there is no solid color. Anyone know where each of the wires (e.g. yellow with
green) are connected to like (e.g. which one goes to rear left speaker). Hope someone knows this stuff.

Another option would be (before hacking off the harness connector in the car) to buy one of the harness kits offered by www.crutchfield.com or other popular audio places like sounddomain.com or others. Heck, I think I even saw some at WalMart the other day. What they do is they accept the factory plug in your car, and then have wires on the other end that attach to your new radio. This eliminates the need for cutting and splicing of the factory wires, and makes things much easier when going from radio to radio, especially if you ever want to put the factory one back in... Check this site out: http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-0lfftAw1lvl/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=11&g=103000&I=120707001&o=m&a=1&cc=01&avf=Y If it's too late and you're already snipped off the old plug you've got a couple of options. First, you could buy one of these adapters and re-splice your old plug back to the factory wires. Or second, you could unplug each one of your speakers and then choose one that you want!
to deduce the leads for, plug that speaker back in, and check wires where your plug was for continuity, it should check right around 4ohms... Although finding which wires to check could be a problem... If you're lucky, the wires perhaps haven't been tampered with by a previous owner, so you could just look at the wires at the speakers themselves, pinpointing which pair runs that particular speaker... After learning about these harness adapters, I don't want to even think about chopping off my factory plug anymore, and then trying to figure out which wire goes where, it's a mess!! Hope this helps some.

Subject: Team3S: SOHC Downpipe

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a used/discount downpipe for my 92' Stealth SOHC. I rather not pay the $450(CDN) for the stock one. Anyone upgraded and would like to get rid of their old one?

Also I'm getting a check engine light and I diagnosed it to be the o2 sensor. Does this mean the o2 is malfunctioning or it is not sensing the correct levels?

Subject: Team3S: Fuel Pressure?

I have a '92 RT NA. All of the sudden I can barely get it
started, most of the time not. Sounds like it's not
getting enough fuel- but not sure. Occasionally it will
start with very low idle, sputters quite a bit
and black dust coming from exhaust- just a little. Check
engine light will come on. Some times it will idle for 10
or 15 minutes and then will die- but usually just a few
minutes. If I turn the key to the on position I can hear
something (sounds like small electric motor) from under
the hood and more so from the rear of the car. Is it
possible that I need a fuel pressure regulator? Or fuel
pump? Does this car have more than one fuel pump? and if
so - where are they?  Are there any tests I can do to
narrow the problem?    This is not an every day driver and
was running fine just before this...Should I be checking
the fuel filter? where is it?  - The engine only has about
32K miles on it with a fresh tune up.
