Subject: Team3S: another one bites the dust....stealth

This was yesterday (June 4, 2003) here in St. Louis.  I could not tell from the news footage if it was a '95 or a 96 Stealth.  It looked to be a  base model or an R/T(non-turbo).  Unfortunately, we do not have any stills of the video footage  from our helicopter-cam on the website.  If I can get any stills, I will try to post them.

FROM FOX 2's website (www.fox2ktvi.com):

"ROBBERY SUSPECTS RUN LIGHT, CRASH
There was a frightening scene in the Central West End Wednesday evening. Two robbery suspects trying to get away from police ran a red light during the evening rush hour. They crashed into an SUV on Lindell at Kingshighway in front of the Chase Park Plaza. Five people were injured, including a mother and her five-month-old baby boy in the SUV. Police say they were not chasing the suspects' car. "

Unfortunately we do not have any stills of the video footage  from our helicopter-cam on the website.

I looked through team3S.com & stealth316.com TWICE, but couldn't find the vin decoder...  Although I had seen it before...  Exact link?

Thanks for the info though.  I just got back from buying it!  Stealth # 2 for me, should make a great replacement.

Can anyone run a free carfax report for me?

Erik,

Here is the link from Dave Black's page, www.sunflower.org/~fatbiker/vins.htm, and here is the link to Michael Reid's work as linked on Jeff Lucius' page, www.stealth316.com/2-production.htm.
It is also in the manual (in the Manual on CD it is pages 00-11 to 00-13 (of the 3000GT 1992-1996 manual).

Subject: RE: Team3S: Wheel & Tire Question

17x8 is easy and cheap to come by, 17x8.5 or 17x9 is a little more pricey.  Go with a 245/45-17 tire, in something Z-rated.  Yoko ES100's are great for the money.  I would envision you spending about $1500 for a real nice package (depending on how light/strong/good looking you want in a wheel - you pretty much get 2/3 of the above choices cheaply, all 3 cost serious money).  Konig has their new Blatant, or the Verdict in a silver finish, costs about $178 / wheel (one of the cheaper, good 17x8's I see), The Voxx Matrix is a really good looking 5 spoke wheel for about $185.  Really, the options are endless on wheels for the non-turbo 3000's.

And in all honesty, these cars aren't that heavy.  The VR4's are, but not the non-turbos.  Mine is right in the 3000 lb range, and from the factory, they only weigh about 3350.

Not positive but I would guess it at 150 pounds. You could call Kormex and find out for sure. Number should be in the good guys list.

I have a '92 Stealth RT Auto. Has anyone done a conversion
to a 5 speed? How difficult is this? What does it cost?

If you don't get any answers on this forum, I would contact Kevin Williams, listed on the "Good Guys" page, under Used parts. I believe he's done this before. He has about 8 3/S's that he's been parting out, and he would definitely be able to tell you everything involved. He's a really good guy.

It's a fairly common process.. you need..

5 speed tranny
shifter linkage cables
clutch
flywheel
clutch/brake pedal assembly
clutch master and slave cylinders
various clutch hydraulic lines
axle shafts (must match the tranny.. if it's a 92 transmission, you need 91 or 92 axle shafts, if it's a 93+ tranny, you need 93+, the difference being the diameter of the shaft at the splines. The most important is the driver side intermediate shaft, since there were different lengths.) I would suggest remanufactured, third party or junkyard units, they are quite expensive new from the dealer.

This is just a general parts list, there are more specific parts needed as well. If you need to know more, email me privately. The price for all the parts you need, brand new is around $4000 This can be drastically reduced by looking for used parts, namely, the transmission, axle shafts, pedal assembly, linkages, basically any of the more expensive non-wear items. Shop around and you can bring this price down to $2000 or so.

Labor for this conversion at a reputable shop should run ballpark $1000

Just a slight correction...  Kevin Williams can be found on the "New and Used Replacement Parts" Page (in the Used Parts section, under Stealth 3000GT Parts).  That page *contains* a section on the "Good Guys" Dealers and Vendors, too.  But there are no Used Parts Dealers listed on the separate, "Good Guys" Page.  Two different pages: www.Team3S.com/FAQpartsupply.htm www.Team3S.com/FAQgoodguys.htm
