If the output shaft from the transaxle and the sleeve that it plugs into on the transfer case are the parts in question, you can get those parts separately and have them installed without having to spend thousands of dollars.  Kormex has the parts you need.  You'll need to have the dealer count the splines on your current output shaft to figure out which replacement shaft you need (either 18 or 25 splines).  The output shaft can be replaced without removing the transaxle from the car.

Now the real question is whether or not the dealer you have it at is capable of actually doing it.  Here are some instructions:

http://www.vr4stealth.com/output_shaft.htm

There are other instructions somewhere on precisely how to do it with the transaxle still in the car, but I've misplaced the bookmark (they were made recently, and posted on 3si.org).

Subject: Team3S: Need 4WS help

I need to know for sure what order in which to hook up the two lines on the passenger side of the car that go back to the rear steering rack.  The pictures they provide in the shop manual are not very clear.  Could someone look under their car and let me know  which line goes to the 'outside'(passenger side) and which one to the 'inside'(more to the center of the car, closest to the driveshaft).  The two metal lines that come from the steering rack I would designate as upper and lower.  The upper one traces around and goes into a banjo bolt type fitting.  Lower one goes into a fitting that is part of the steering rack housing.

Any help is much appreciated!!

There is also a transfer case recall going on --- have them check and see if yours is part of the recall. Kormex also sells transmissions.

Subject: Team3S: 1991 Stealth RT for sale

I still have a 1991 Teal Blue RT for sale. The car has 132K miles, a new motor with 11K miles on it, a new automatic transmission with 4K miles on it, new tires on the stock rims, new brakes, a Pioneer CD XM ready stereo system, ice cold air conditioning, everything works except the following: needs new struts and ABS pump. Please email me and I will forward a picture. The car is a California car, is registered in California and just passed smog with flying colors. I have $4,500 in the motor alone and I am asking $5,000.00 for the car.

Subject: Team3S: Leaking after Transfer Case Recall Replacement

I've found some oily spots in the driveway at the midpoint, slight toward the front, of where I park my car.  It smells like new transmission fluid. I had my transmission replaced about 3 months ago.  Has anyone found a similar problem after recall replacement?  I looked at the transfer case after the dealer in Decatur (GA) said they replaced it and, frankly, it didn't look new to me.  Thanks,

I've been informed that the recall related to only some of the seals in the transfer case, so the dealer probably would not replace the entire transfer case, and thus some seals may still leak even after the recall repairs.

Does anyone know if the Homelink of the '99 VR-4 is compatible with rolling technology garage door openers?  Specifically the Chamberlain brand.  It states on the box that it is "compatible with most homelink systems".  I found no specific detail in the product manual, or on their website.

Thanks,
Oskar

FYI. Have seen a 94 Stealth NT Forest Green on a used car lot near my
house in Enterprise, Alabama, for about three months now.  Price back
in January was $6900. Now it is $5300.

Looks like original rims. Body has a few small door dents in the rear
quarter panels. No other info since there is no sticker with any vitals
on the windshield. Don't know the mileage either.

Subject: Team3S: Short shift & Paperback Manuals

Just thought I would let the list know about some great service and products that I have recently received, although many of you are probably already aware of them. The Short Shift lever from Bob Stirling (excellent build quality) has been fitted and works like a dream, shift movement reduced about 50% and definitely has a more positive feel. I do not race the car but have always enjoyed the feel of a short shift and this certainly is one of the best I have fitted. The other product was the paperback Service Manual 3000 GT (Volumes 1 & 2), almost 4" thick from Norman at Books4Cars. I realise at $149.95 this is quite expensive, but a lot cheaper than the $700+ the Main Dealer wanted here. As an Automotive guy I still love the old fashioned oily fingerprint on the page. This book is not a photocopy, the automatic transaxle hydraulic circuit is in colour and all diagrams are very clear. Both these guys went out of their way for me and sent the stuff out here Airmail at very reasonable prices and for that I thank them.
If anyone is interested I have put addresses etc. below:
