Well Dave and Darren,
Much much thanks go out to you for giving some insight, after some research
I have found that the rod bearings and main bearings need replacement, it isn't
to the point where the crank is toast, but I will have that done as well. It was
definitely shards of copper, visible pieces that just make your heart sink. No
evidence to where they are from, but I have never had experience flushing the
oil cooler, what is the procedure, or where can I look up the info? I am still
waiting for shipment of a tranny as well, so I will have it all pulled hopefully
this weekend, I am so glad that it has warmed up, I even have new tires, it only
took two days from Indiana to Alaska, wow to Tom Hanks, oh wait that was only a
movie. One more question. Where should the oil pressure be while the car is
running? I don't think I am getting as much pressure as I used to, I am
wondering if that led to less lubrication down in the bearings.

Not sure but if you are replacing the timing belt I believe it is like 4
additional bolts to get it out then cost of parts....

Jeff,
I was talking with the owner of the shop yesterday and he said they ended
up taking it to a Mitsu tech they knew and he said there have been a lot of
problems on older 3S wiring harnesses due to cracking and corrosion. On
Chris' car a ground wire that attaches to the frame rail coming from the harness
he specified was broken.

Its a little more than that, unfortunately.
Remove downpipe
Remove oil cooler lines from filter assy.
Remove
filter fitting "thing" from pump
Remove oil return lines from oilpan
Cut
gasket-goop all the way around oilpan
Remove oilpan
Remove oil pickup
tube
Then you can get the oil pump out. Reverse to reinstall.
There's probably a few other things I forgot.

Oil pump assembly is $160 or so --- I think you can also buy the rotors
separately but I think they're about $90.

RE: Team3S: inside the engine
I like $154 a lot better than $250. My engine's got 95k, so doing the
oil pump probably would be a good idea.
Although, how often do we see oil pump problems? I can't recall
hearing about very many - it always seems to be the water pump. My oil
pressure (stock gauge, I know) is very good. I wonder if it's worth the
$150 to do it?

If you're rebuilding your engine --- absolutely --- lots of stories about
spun rod bearings which 'may' be caused by reduced oil flow.

RE: Team3S: inside the engine
I'm not rebuilding, just pulling to replace a slough of things:
engine mounts, turbos, exhaust manifolds, clutch, cams, 60K service. I
suppose at $150 it makes sense to do it.

Team3S: Searching for a Transfer Assembly and Transaxle Assembly in Canada or

REF :- Transfer assembly / Transaxle - source for a remanufactured
units.
Folks,
This is my first message posted to the group. Pity it's not under better
circumstances, but I have a rather sick Stealth. ( 93 AWD Twin Turbo
)
Would anyone have any views or recommendations on sourcing a good quality
transfer assembly and transaxle unit, ( or any advice on the subject
area
would be welcome ). My car is with a Dodge Dealer in
Michigan, but I live
in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The car has been with the
dealer two weeks while they obtained new clutch parts, only to find it was more
serious. (
sound familiar ) Upshot is, what seemed to
be a clutch failure, is
actually more serious and I need to replace the
Transfer Assembly and Transaxle Assembly, as I have sheared off various teeth on
shafts between the two units. I always had a bit of a nasty 'thud' when
changing gears, now I know what it was ( wear and excessive play in the
interconnection between the two).
Basically, I am trying to get my head round the whole transmission
replacement / 2nd hand / reconditioned unit market, and trying not to get stuck
with a lemon.
As you can imagine, I am running up the bill from hell at this Dodge
dealer, so I want to make sure I put a good quality used part in, and not a
piece of old junk.
Any help appreciated. I live in hope of a better day. ( By the way, if
anyone in Windsor or Detroit knows a good place to get Stealth's serviced please
do tell, all the ones I have found so far are far from impressive.)
Richard.
