Hello everyone,

I've been searching for some answers lately as to the extent and engineering behind the stock intake manifold and the stock exhaust manifolds. I was wondering if anyone had any literature handy over the manifolds, (i.e. cracking point, flowing characteristics,
alternatives...)

Also, is anyone on the waiting list for the TD05 Adapter plates?

Thank you in advance,

I think the product is called "Back-to-Black" and if that isn't in the Mother's line then it works wonders as well.

Hey, Darlene,
I've heard rumors about using everything from transmission fluid (don't let it touch the car finish!), to shoe polish and furniture cleaners...  But our resident "detailing" expert is Gregg Couture, and his suggestion is for a "Mother's" product made for this type of trim.  Gregg's Detailing Page is on our website, Check the Team3S FAQ Index Page, in the Cosmetics section. Best, Forrest

Subject: Team3S: Parts for TT rebuild

Greetings,

The engine from my '92 Stealth TT is now apart to the last nut & bolt.  I have identified the parts needed from the CAPS program.  I have 2 questions I'd like to put forth:

1.  Without having to be a "phone shopper" to all the vendors on the "good guys" list, can you suggest  which vendor has the best "in stock for immediate shipping" history?

2.  If  I purchase the  complete engine overhaul gasket set, will this include EVERY gasket needed to put this thing back together again?  I don't want to find myself out in the garage Saturday night, and finding out I need a banjo bolt seal from the turbo cooling line!

Any insight on these 2 subjects greatly appreciated.  Any other tips on the project I'm about to undertake are most welcome too!

Hey, folks,

We're going to have a nice contingent of Team3S members this weekend.  Some people watching..., some of us on the track.  Come and join us!

Group 1 and Group 2 are full, but they still have a few openings in Groups 3 and 4.  Sign up ASAP.  www.nasaproracing.com  Don't forget - you pay the full price on the website ($299 for the weekend) and you'll get a rebate back from NASA under their 5-for-4 program - which is ONLY for Team3S.  (Between $35 and $60 bucks back - depends on how many folks sign up).

We'll all be gathering (roughly) opposite the big green tent at the snack bar. You'll see us!  If you're too chicken to get out on the track, then come to watch US have fun!  Ride as a passenger for $5 - someone will lend you a helmet.  There's a free BBQ Saturday nite PLUS it's my birthday weekend, so we're having a little get-together after the BBQ...

Be there!!!

2 Different people on 3si called the stroker engine kit manufacturer
and he is modifying new stock cranks for the extra stroke.  I don't
really like the idea of welding on material and offset grinding to
get the additional stroke.

There is an another company that will make a billet stroker crank
only for $2200, with new rods and pistons that gets pretty steep.

Dynamic racing claims they have run 8300 RPM with stock internals.  I
would make an un-scientific assumption that a stroker kit using good
forged parts would still be reliable at stock RPM limit of 7300.

I looked at a spare 4-bolt shortblock I have in my garage and it
looks like the rod ends are between 1/4" and ½” from the main bearing
cradle.  If the crank through was increased by very much the cradle
might have to be relieved.  I was hoping to rebuild this engine in
the next year or 2  with forged internals and a stroker might be a
nice option.

I don't know the answer to Question 2, but as to Question 1, I buy all my parts from Conicelli (Partznet.com), and (1) have never had a mixup, and (2) have always received my parts within days--even items that Conicelli needed to special order.  They are also a bit cheaper than mitsupartsdirect.com.

Yes, it includes everything that you'll need for engine gaskets (including
plenum gaskets, manifold gaskets, turbo gaskets, crush washers, etc.  If you
took other things apart in the engine bay (AC compressor, P/S lines, fuel
filter, etc.) that stuff isn't included.  Just things that bolt onto/into the
engine.

I have a 92 TT and recently upgraded to 550cc injectors, new wires (Accell 8mm), plugs (NGK), ARC2, ARM1, DR650 Turbos, Denso Fuel pump, larger intercoolers, and boost controller.  The problem is that when I start the car in my garage, there is no problem.  When I take it to work and leave it outdoors for 6+ hours, the car will flood. This has happened both times I took it to work.  Have not had this problem at any other time.  Just got it put together, so there is not much historical data I can give.  Anybody have any idea why this is happening? Initial reactions - wow. Granted I went from dry-rotten, worn out goodyears, but still - wow. I got a chance to go through a nice downpour yesterday. Going through a good few inches of water (enough that before, I would have been hydroplaning and pulling to the side like crazy) I didn't even feel it.

To throw some numbers at it, the stroke on the new crank (3.242") is 8.36% longer than on the stock one(2.992").  Since maximum piston acceleration is (per the equation you listed:  Accmax = rpm x rpm x S x (L + R/L)/2189) linearly proportional to the stroke, that would mean that the new rev limit would be 92.3% of the old one.  If the "stock internals limit" (per DR) is 8300RPM, this would mean you could use the stroker crank at 7660RPM and have the same piston acceleration.  If that's all you have to be concerned about*, then it looks like the factory 7300RPM limiter would be fine.

I'm on the list too.  I think #15 or so.  I don't have the cash for "real"
TD05 headers, and had heard negative comments about the DN Performance headers
not fitting properly.  I'll be starting out with a pair of 14Bs.  If I need
more (which I doubt for my goals), I'll upgrade to Big 16Gs.

Hello Everyone,

Yes, that is correct, I work with Marcus, also with Chris (Twin Turbo
SC300) and Mike (Built Auto 98 Supra)!

In regards to going with Big 16gs, many people actually say small 16gs are better. Here is a thread discussing the two turbos: http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=d6fc55b36fc2823f98923d8c9
0863f4d&threadid=57986&highlight=small+16g+vs+big+16g

Here are the two raw compressor maps, as well... http://www.stealth316.com/images/td05-16gsmall-raw.gif
http://www.stealth316.com/images/td05-16glarge-raw.gif

I, personally, will be going with two small 16gs off the bat. I'm going to be tuning using the MAF Translator from an LS6 and fine tuning with an SAFC with adequate fuel. The local LS1s will not know what just hit them.

In addition to the power aspect of the car, I will be lightening the car as much as possible while not being too noticeable, such as very lightweight wheels (Buddy Club weighing ~14 lbs a piece for 18x9), taking out some of the Active Aero/Suspension, carbon fiber hatch and hood painted to match the car, and carbon fiber driveshaft. In addition to that, I may put in racing seats although it may compromise my "bone stock" appearance which I will be taking advantage of.

If you're not already aware of them, you need to hop on over the 3si.org and read a couple of discussions on this   Small 16G vs Big 16G vs 14B subject.  These threads are for our engine, not the DSM engine.  :)

http://www.3si.org/portal/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=117226&perpage=15&pagenumber=48
http://www.3si.org/portal/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=129903&perpage=15&pagenumber=3

On the 2L 4G63 engine, the small 16G is definitely the better turbo.  But on the 6G72 engine, which effectively has a 1.5L displacement (two turbos, remember!), I and several others believe that the small 16G is inferior to both the Big 16G and the 14B.
