Please do not respond to this post since it is indeed non-technical and
therefore off-topic.
This is an event notice for those of you who may live within driving
distance of Dallas Texas and wish to meet and greet other owners in this
area.

There is a growing contingent of 3/S owners becoming more "active" in the
Dallas/FortWorth Texas region (and beyond).  We have had several moderate
size gatherings this year of 15-20 owners.  There will be a larger gathering
that will coincide with a "NOPI Race Wars" event at the Dallas Texas
Motorplex  located in Ennis Texas during the weekend of April 12 & 13.

Please reference the following links for additional information.

Most likely a slipped belt due to some rubbing or impact.  I would not drive

Hi,
I am experiencing play in the steering but it really only has an
effect when I'm going between 70 and 75.  I can feel the play when I'm
going slower than that if I turn the steering wheel back and forth, but
when I'm going between 70 and 75 or so it really loosens up.  It makes
things kind of uncomfortable and the front even shakes a little.  I'm
planning on having it looked at, but I want to have somewhat of an idea
might be wrong with it.  Does anyone know of a common problem with the
front end that could be causing this?  Anyone experienced this?  Thanks
a bunch.

Subject: Team3S: wiring for TPS

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the suggestions.  I spoke with the mechanic (who seems to
have given up) - there is a check engine light pointing to the TPS.  Switched
out the TPS, but still didn't fix it.  Mechanic said he wasn't getting good
readings at the TPS (I think with a voltmeter).  He says the harness is bad.  I
have three questions:
1) How do I check the wiring to pinpoint the bad stretch?
2) Does anyone have an extra harness (it's a pig tail with four horizontal
plugs)? I have tried some junkyards, but to no avail.
3) How hard would it be to run new wire?

Thank you again,
Michael

Okay, so I really, really need new tires. I need something cheap but
something that can hold its own on the highway. I went to a discount
tire and they quoted me a total of 660 to get 4 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712,
which he later brought down to 560 installed. That works out to ~140/
tire + tax.

Two questions - is that a good price and is that a good tire.

Tirerack quotes 96/each for those, but they need to be installed
still...

Thanks,

Plate has mitsubishi logo, would it be a mitsubishi paint code? I have no

emerald green. I have seen an emerald green van, not the same color. But

Well, I deleted the original email posted about paint codes, but knew that
I'd seen some interesting web pages before when searching (endlessly it
seems) for the right touch up paint for my '94 Stealth R/T TT (dark green
exterior).  I've seen all kinds of touch up colors coming close, but never
being right enough for me.

In research, I found the following, but don't know what of use it may be.

http://www.ftooc.org/contents/pages/faq/paintcodes.html

Seems Mitsubishi was didn't understand their own codes.  I haven't found any
retail paint that will do (granted I stopped looking for a while).  Custom
shops may be the only place to get a good match.

If anyone finds touch up paint available for code G84 (Emerald Pearl Green
per Mitsu, Hunter Green per Chrysler, and Kielder Green per the above link),
please let us know.

Thanks,

You my friend, are correct...  Tire was run low on air pressure, most
likely damaging the sidewall of the tire, making it very easy to get
what we call an "impact bruise"  Tire definitely needs replaced...  What
type of tire is it???  Sad thing is, if the other tires are worn more
than 4/32 from new, they will need replacing too...  (and remember, if
you have to replace just the one, it must be replaced with an identical
tire...)

The damage that occurred, well, lets see...  nylon/polyester/rayon/some
type of fabric cording runs from one bead (where the rim meets the tire)
to the bead on the other side of the tire...  What's happened, is a
sharp edge has pinched the bead up against the wheel, cutting a few of
these cords...

I agree that the tire appears to have been run while severly underpressured,
maybe not flat but awfully low.  I also agree with the recommendation to
replace ASAP.  If you can't afford to replace all four, recommend replacing
at least a pair.

Yes, definitely splurge and get the Yok ES100's...  Lightyears better
than the Kumho 712's for not much more money...  I can't get prices
right now (seems the web server is down), but what size are you looking
into???

Things they/we will try to charge you for
Tire (includes lifetime balancing, rubber valves and pro-rated road
hazard/defect)
Chrome valves ($1.00 each, and optional - only if you like the chrome
valve stems)
Disposal Fee/State Required Fees - depends on the region... We pay money
to dispose of the tires, and in some areas, the state requires a fee,
again, depending on the area you live in...  You might be able to get
them to take that off  :)
Certificates For Free Replacement - Worth it's money, definitely...
It's an extra fee, but awesome...  If you have to replace a tire for any
reason other than vandalism, and you have the certificates, the tire is
free, yes free.  Some people choose not to get it, and stick with the
pro-rated, but, again, it is definitely worth the money. (that impact
bruise you have would mean a new tire for free right now)
Ride Match - the cool machine that matches tires to wheels.  Not needed
most of the time, but will pro-long the life of the tire, and make it
ride better.  If you have a vibe problem on your new tires, they will do
this for free generally, but if you have the cash, it's a good guarantee
no problems out the door, and the tires will last longer and wear more
evenly...

Any questions?

Yes, they will match, and if you know how to talk to the salesperson,
they will beat them "enough to make your business"  In the end, all we
really care about is putting tires on...  It's not our money, and we
don't get paid commission, so we'll do whatever it takes to make the
customer happy (and a fair price is one of them)...

What size tire, again?

I already responded to this, but I will elaborate....

Discount Tire includes a whole crapload of stuff TireRack can't think
about including...  Rotations, Flat Repairs, Warranties, Balancing
(lifetime), Valve stems, etc...  Not to mention you don't pay
shipping...

For Instance:
245/45-17
Tire Rack sells the BFG T/A KDW for $169/tire
Discount Tire Direct sells the same (but oddly it's not listed on the
website)
Discount Tire Co. Sells the same for $188/tire, installed, total

Tire racks price does not include shipping ($8-$12 per tire),
installation ($7-$15 per tire), valve stems ($2 each), lifetime
balancing ($10/tire), nor any other free services DTC offers.  Soooo...
$169 plus $10 shipping, plus $8 installation, plus $10 balancing, plus
$2 valve stem = $199 / tire once we're done installing them, and then
there is no warranty on the tire other than manufacturers pro-rated
defect.  DTC has pro-rated road hazard with every tire...

Discount Tire Co. is cheaper, across the board in most instances, and
when we're not, we still beat the other price no matter what it takes...

Does discount match tirerack prices?
Thanks,

Alex.

my 91 vr-4 has 146,000 miles on it and it has started grinding when I try
and put it in first gear.  All other gears go in smothly with the exception
of first.  + if I try and put the car in 1st if the car is moving at all it
grinds.  I'm thinking it is probably the 1st gear sincro.  what do you guys
think...? If it is, how do I fix it and how hard is it to replace?

Also, has anyone thought about putting T-Tops or those 1 piece tops ( the
ones that go all the way across like on the supra in "the fast and the
furious" ) on you cars?  I wonder how much it would cost and if it would
affect the stability of the cars structure...

Subject: Team3S: Labor Prices

I have a 1991 R/T TT AWD Stealth.  I recently ordered all the parts I need from Mitsupartsdirect, however, I have not got them put on.  The parts I ordered includes; struts, bellows boots, right front lower control arm, rear wheel bearings, and last but not least...brake pads.  (The struts support active suspension) I know that getting the bearings pressed or whatever they have to do there is going to be the most expensive part of my labor bill.  I also am aware that I could get hub assemblies and probably end up paying less in the long run.  These are the parts I am working with though.  With this in mind, how much should I expect to pay for labor to get these parts put on my car?  Labor in central Missouri runs about $37 an hour.  I guess I just need to know how long this all should take.  The bellows boots are for the inner tierods.  (that is probably spelled wrong)
Thanks,
Carol Decker
I'm not the only girl on the list am I?  I can't be...

I know where to go to get the material for my dash tear down to install gauges.  However, if I do not have to get new gauges I am happy with the stock ones.  The problem with my current gauges is that they only work half way.  For instance the heat guage...I bet if the car were to overheat it would read hot dead center.  My oil pressure guage is the same way, as well as my boost gauge.   I was wondering if anyone has ever had a similar problem, and if so...do you know how to fix it?  If I have to install new gauges I will when I put in my new heat vents.  Also, if someone has pictures of their new gauges installed sucessfully that are not stock I would like to see them.  My car is black with black interior, therefore, I would like to keep black faced gauges.  I think it looks better.  I don't want to have to do any custom cutouts to fit new gauges in.  I hope this made sense.
Thanks,

97 (I think) and up cars can be equpped with the homelink system.  It used to
work well until I got new garage door openers. It learns the code fine so it
seems, as I follow the instructions. The doors just dont open. The car manual
says it may not work with all systems, but does anyone know a way around
this? Is the signal band of the homelink not wide enough to get my new opener
signal fully? I would rather not have to carry a clunky opener. thank you

Subject: RE: Team3S: Tranny and T-Tops

Structure is the key question here. First to say that anything is possible.
The Spyders were shipped to the US as hardtops and a shop in Cali chopped
off the top and made a convertible. From what I hear there is quite a bit of
stuff under the car to make the frame stay in one shape though... Weight,
ack! The Targa top (like Supra) you are talking about would certainly be a
challenge because you are removing part of the roof completely. The car's
shape works like an egg shell to support itself so doing a change like that
is a bad idea. However T-tops is something I have been thinking about for
more than 2 years now. Given small tops and some reinforcement to the roof
only it should be doable. I have yet to see or hear of anyone doing this.
Give it a shot, do a write-up, send pictures.

Tyson
