Subject: Team3S: AC
control head
Has anyone had trouble with the AC controll head
(display)?
Mine works properly but the light (back lighted?) does not
function and
hence I am not able to "see" the temperature or any other
settings.
Heats and cools properly.
There are some aftermarket places that
state they will "refurbish" it but
not sure they know what they are talking
about.
Any help?
How much should it cost for
repair/refurbish

results of transfer case recall X2
One of the local guys actually got
back a check from Mitsubishi after
showing them his bill of repair after a
transfer case failure, upgraded to a
six speed in his 93. He got everything
he paid for the service back from
them.

Once long ago, I had
replaced the fuel rails on a '93 Chrysler Concorde that
subsequently were
recalled a month or so after I had paid almost $600 to
have it done.
When the recall was issued, I contacted Chrysler and they
said that because I
had paid for the first, they would reimburse me. And
because the first
would have been done with the same faulty parts, they'd do
recall as
well. So I got my money back and got the recall done.
Not sure if
this transfer case recall is on par since the parts may not be
new designs,
but it still may be worth your effort to give Mistu a call and
find
out.
Good luck!

With no other modifications?
Can I use my

I
thinking about portfield cryo rotors, R4S pads and regular 2nd gen

It's for street, highway use.

Team3S: What's top end in an M5?
One of my ROWG buddies got a new M3, so
we all had to go out and celebrate by making the nuclear plant run (a 12-mile
stretch of road past our local nuke that has bunches of 100 mph
sweepers).
Anyway, the M5 led, followed by an 850i BMW, me, and the M3.
Afterward, the M5 driver said he hit the rev limiter in 5th gear, which
is 157 mph, he says. Tom, the 850i driver, looked at me, and said, "no way. We
were following right along, and we never exceeded 130." The M3 was no help,
because he disappeared in my mirrors, not to be seen again until the run was
over. He said he was running only 100 mph for break-in purposes, and we plumb
ran away from him.
Actually, I thought it had been a safe, leisurely
drive, just three cars cruising close together at 100+ most of the time, with
spurts up to 120, and hitting 130 once.
The M5 driver says his GPS
computer (he has every gadget you can imagine) confirmed the top speed and
recorded our average speed at 108 mph for the entire 12-mile trip.
How
can this be? My speedo (and the 850i's) can't be THAT far off, can they?
If I
was doing 150+, don't you think I'd know it? Sheesh, I didn't even have the
boost turned up.
I think the M5's speedo and GPS are way off. One Beemer
guy told me that BMW speedos are notoriously inaccurate at high speeds. How
about GPS?
I should have passed them. I could have, but didn't. I will
next time. The last time we did this, *I* led, and ran away from the M5 and the
850i.

Well Rich - I can't speak for the M5,
but I can speak for the M6 BMW. I have
a beautiful 87 than runs like a clock.
This is a high revving car but not so
high that it can't hit 150. At 150 it
will be revving about 6k and red line
is at 7k The various review articles
say 156 is its top end if I remember
right. Personally, I have never had it
that high. I just can't risk being
carted off to jail by the first cop to
catch up after I slow down.
I can also say that compared to my Stealth TT
the M6 does not hold a candle.
On all counts the Stealth is faster getting
there, and holds the road a lot
better. Then again, I havn't had my stealth
at 150 either, but I have had it
to 125 and at that speed it handled like it
was going 60 in a regular car.
Going fast in either car is a
blast.

Team3S: 91 Stealth Twin Turbo
Hi, I am looking for advice, opinions,
& so on a recent dealer story I have.
I was driving my 91 stealth &
began hearing a "wrapping" noise from under
the hood. I pulled over
& had the car towed to the dealer immediately.
The dealer charged me
$500 just to "find out where the noise is coming
from". I agreed (my
regular mechanic wanted nothing to do with this one)
Anyway, he told me I
was fortunate. Apparently a piece of the belt had torn
& was
hitting the housing as it spun. He said he would test for any
valve
damage & replace the belt / tensioner. He quoted me around
$1100 for the
job. I agreed.
I picked the car up & drove
home. The noise was gone.
I parked it & later than night jumped in
to head out. Anyway, the vehicle
would not start. It attempted to
turn off & sputter right.
I called the tow truck & back it
went. Late that afternoon I got a call
from the dealer telling me "the
vehicle has a really bad wrap". He went on
to say we are not willing to
tear this motor apart. Make arrangement to
remove the car. When I
arrived he told me the car needed a new engine &
handed me a parts only
quote of 6340.
Anyway, I did start the car & you can pretty much hear
the pistons hitting
the values. I have my own opions on what happened
by do not want to push
those on you guys (the pro's).
I am looking for
honest opinions on what I should make of this.
23 miles after having the
belt/tensioner changed & the vehicle getting a
clean bill of heath I now
need a new engine.
I am so pissed. This truly is the best car I
have ever owned (I had a GTA
5.7 & an RX7 Rag Top). Neither even
comes close.
The car is super clean, has tires with less than 100 miles
on them. I
really love the car but cannot seem to find a mechanic with
any knowledge or
skill with this car (I'm in MA).
ok, I would really
appreciate opinions on the dealer fiasco & advice as to
how much I should
expect to spend & if anyone in the MA area would be
willing to take this
project on. I should also mention the dealer tried to
sell me an ABS
system for $3000 as "it's a bad unit". I actually unplugged
it because
I do not like ABS & tried to wack me another $250 for an oil
sending
unit.
They are now blaming the problem on low oil pressure as I decline
repair on
that. Obviously the sending unit just tells the guage
what to display. It
would in no way effect actual internal
pressure. Furthermore one would
think they tested pressure prior to
trying to sell me a sending unit?
Thanks again,
Tim

$1100 for a timing belt
replacement! Ouch!!! Should be under $500 for the
whole job (from
people who actually know how to do it properly).

Plain and simple, they screwed up the
far overpriced timing belt swap. They
need to warranty their work and
make things right for you and your car -
better yet, they should pay a
COMPETENT shop to fix the heads (and possibly
pistons) and do the timing belt
job properly, which they screwed up in the
first place.
Incompetence
sucks, especially when you pay for it.
If they don't feel like it is
their fault and won't help you and make things
right, talk to a good
lawyer.

sluggish engine/tranny
Hi guys-
By my house is a long stretch of
road that is 2 lanes and very flat-a good
place to go fast is you so
desired. While driving on it today a silver brand
new BMW 323 pulled behind
me.
The driver got right on top of my ass until he decided to go around
me. This
didnt sit well with me. As he came around I floored it, and. . .
.nothin
happened. He zoomed by me like i was standing still. I backed
off at around
85. The car is an auto, but I know the car downshifted because
the revs were
around 5500. It simply didnt pull the car with alot of oomph.
What could be the problem? I just had a 60K done. A lowly 323 (with the
2.5 6
cyl motor in it and no visible mods, and no im sure in not a DINAN)
should
not move ahead of me when my car is at its power peak. Im not
so worried
that the evil Bimmer went ahead as i am about my car not feeling
right. Its
hard to explain how it feels guys. its rare that I punch it like
that, in
fact its probably the first time since the tune
up.
