Subject: RE: Team3S: Less expensive tires & rims

Not to mention something other than the stock wheels.  There are a few aftermarket wheels cheaper than stock wheels available as well.  Also, usually you can have a wheel (non-chrome) repaired for around $100, to remove any dents, bends, etc.  Tires, find something less expensive, especially if you are having that type of problem...  Kumhos in your size run just a touch over $100 and are great tires, with average to good dry traction, excellent wet traction, and good treadwear as well.

Recently, my brother was driving my car, it has aftermarket 18" wheels. There was a washed out section of the road that wasn't noticeable until he was right on top of it (at night)... Anyways, he hit it so hard it split the wheel in two, but the Kumho 712 tire that was on it didn't suffer any damage at all.

Mike, I would recommend that you get a set of 17x8.5"  wheels and have a set of 255/45 r17's mounted on them. This will give you marginally taller sidewalls and should help prevent you from constantly eating wheels and tires.

Subject: Team3S: OT: advice needed on lost car cover-legal-LONG

I have a serious problem and have tried everything I can do get it resolved and still haven't had any luck.  I was wondering if anyone could recommend other courses of action, possibly legal, in order to get this resolved.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

As some of you know, I have a 1997 VR-4 that has a very expensive custom paint job.  To protect it, I bought a cotton car cover to protect the finish and an all weather cover, called UltraShield to put on the top.

Anyway, in the beginning of December of last year, the snow caused a rip in my cover, so I tried contacting the manufacturer, CoverKing in California.  I could never reach them by phone and after many weeks of trying, they never even replied to my emails.  I then contacted the vendor I purchased the cover from, Heaven4Cars, also in California.  They told me the cover would be repaired free of charge since it was still, under warranty.  I shipped the cover and they shipped it back to me, on 12/26.

It turned out that they sent it to my old address from two years ago, and disregarded both the label on the box and the letter I enclosed.  Then UPS corrected the address, and sent it off to never never land.

I have been trying since then to get a replacement cover, as it was their mistake why it got lost.  CoverKing still will not return phone calls or emails and all I got out of Heaven4cars was an email about three weeks ago, stating that a new cover was ordered and will ship soon.

I filed a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and they told me that I would be better filing a complaint with the BBB, which I did on 1/28, have heard nothing from that either.

Plus, to make it more annoying, the cotton cover I had underneath did not have any kind of grommets for tie down, by design, to make sure nothing would scratch the paint.  Well since there was no outer cover on the car, and the two companies I had been dealing with a farting around royally, the cover blew off in high winds and now I lost both covers.

So I am out almost $600 and UPS will not even talk to me since I was not the shipper, CoverKing may as well have fallen off the face of the earth since I still have not heard a thing from them, and Heaven4Cars doesn't do anything either.

Is there anything else I can do in order to get the cover replaced since it was not my mistake in the first place ? I can't afford to buy another cover and am all out of ideas on how to get this resolved.

Sorry for the length of this message.  I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter since I am not a lawyer and don't know one, and certainly can't afford one.

Thanks all
Anthony Melillo

Subject: Team3S: Rear wiper problem

Hi guys-

Today I put on my rear wiper to clear the glass. It worked fine. Then it
wouldn't turn off. No matter what I did it wouldn't stop. I had to park and
pull out the fuse for the wipers.

I looked at the switch later and took it off. I found. . .nothin.  The car
hasn't been hit or anything at all. If anything its sat in my garage because
of the snow here in NJ.  The only thing I can think of is the 60K/ fuel
filter service done bout 2 weeks ago. Its possible I haven't used the wiper
since then. Maybe I messed up a wire?

Thanx for the help

When I got my car the rear wiper didn't at all. Took the switch apart. There is a piece of plastic that slides up and down to make the contacts. When it broke, it broke in off position. Yours may of broke when you tried to turn it off and now it is stuck on. Either take the switch apart or use a meter to test the switch. Replacement switch only cost me 30 bucks Canadian. I had to get this replaced to get my car certified.

Wanna hear something funny, the mechanics refused to certify my car because the rear defogger didn't work. Confused me because I used it on the way over. Dumbasses didn't even think to turn the car on. Now I don't know where to take me car.

Subject: Team3S: Sticky solenoid?

Hey gang,

I've got a blitz sbc-id with a funky problem.

I installed it this summer at everything was great. I set it to right below 15psi, and it's been running like a champ. Now, I'm getting this problem where it won't boost past 12 psi consistently. A ratio of like 65 (as opposed to the normal 48 I use for this weather) barely gets it to 13 psi. But sometimes - it'll spike... and to the proper boost level for that ratio. So if I have it at 65, it'll give me 13 for the most part, but then once in a while, it'll fly up to 16psi...

What is this? Is the solenoid sticking and not opening completely? Is it turbos? I recently pulled the IC hose above the radiator, and it has some oil in it... not too much, but an amount of sludge... Could that have clogged it up?

Thanks,

Alex

Subject: Team3S: 99 corner lights?

Anyone know if we can make the 99 corner lights fit onto a 94 Stealth without having to screw with or replace the bumper? Is there a way to just modify the light itself? I was thinking maybe shape the bottom corner to fit... Anyone actually seen the corner light up close to verify or disprove this idea? Thanks.

I'm on my third rear wiper switch (they cost about $20 from mitsupartsonline.com).  The original lasted a long time before breaking such that it would just flop up and down with no effect.  The next one broke the same way almost immediately, so I bought another switch AND the plastic mount that holds it and the active exhaust switch (a coupla bucks), and everything has been fine since.

Subject: Team3S: CAR STARTED!!!

Well...it ran!!  For the first time in four years it ran!!  The motor ran pretty well even without any tweaking, idled REAL high...around 16-1700. I had a couple of problems though so I had to shut it off.  One was simple, I have an oil leak on the oil filter bracket where the oil line for the front turbo goes in....apparently I overtightened and stripped the threads on that.  I'm planning on fixing with a helicoil repair or replacement bracket if anyone knows where I can get one (cheap).  The other problem is with the transmission.  SOMETHING'S DEFINATELY NOT RIGHT.  I'm going to compose another email later today describing THAT problem.  So all you tranny guru's....out your head in and help me out PLEASE!!
