Subject: Team3S: TEIN HA install

Someone asked how hard it is to install TEINS.

They are very easy except for one thing.

If you tighten the top nut and let the shaft spin you will destroy
the dampening adjsutment.

The instructions are not clear on how to do this so I demonstrated
on my webpage.  The trick is to build up the struts completely when
they are off the car and use the spanner wrench to keep it from
turning.  Very simple but for some reason it took me an hour or 2 to
figure it out.

http://johnmonnin.netfirms.com/Suspension.html

P.S. Here is link to TEINS english instructions, they REALLY hide it
on thier webpage.  Its an Adobe acrobat file.

Subject: Team3S: how to purchase used rocker cover-revisited

I have tried contacting many used parts suppliers and wreckers to try and obtain a rocker cover for my 1997 VR-4.  I tried all the
places on the "Good Guys" page on Team3S, and either never received any replies to my inquiries, or they want more than I can
afford, which of course is not their fault.  But I can't ignore my anemic bank account.

I tried car-part.com, M&S Recycling and many more with no luck.  Only one place even had one, I don't remember which one it was, and
they wanted over $50 for it and it wasn't even in good condition.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Go to the forums at www.3si.org and look at parts for sale. Find people
parting out cars, there will be plenty. Also post on parts wanted what you
want and what you will pay for it. If memory serves me right, that panel (at
least for my '92) was about $500, so I would expect to pay $150-200 for one
in good shape.

Hey guys, I have a '91 Stealth TT and after enjoying the car for several
months, I've decided to modify it. I've purchased an ATR 3" Downpipe and
ATR's 3" high flow catalytic converter in order to make the setup
street-legal. Here's the deal: The outlet for the downpipe and the inlet for
the cat are the same size. . . No flanges on either piece. . . Am I missing
something? I can't figure out how these two are supposed to mate up. Please,
forgive my ametuer-ness. We all have to start somewhere. BTW, the end of the
downpipe hasn't been cut yet to allow for the cat to bolt up to it. How
should the end of the Downpipe look when this is done? My guess is that the
outlet for the cat bolts up to the cat-back in a similar manner. Please help
me out guys. Thanks.

Where did you get your high-flow cat? They come without flanges so that an
exhaust shop can weld the right type of flange to it to fit the car... Are
you telling that the ATR you got is just chopped without a flange or
anything too?? Is that how they come?! I guess your option there would be to
go to an exhaust shop in your area and have them do the welding for you...
Did they at least supply you with the flanges?!

following the team3s documentation the right plugs are:

NKG PFR 6J 11    or      NIPPON DENSO PK20PR p11

The number 6 means  between HOT=2  and COLD=11
I have seen that exist also the iridium Plug of Denso IK20, that should be
more performant than Platinum

Now 2 questions:

1) What happens if we take a colder or warmer PLUG  for instance nr 4 or nr
8 ?
2) Is the Iridium Plug effectively better than Platinum?

I am not sure what Ty is referring to but Rocker Cover are more commonly
referred to as valve covers and if you can get one at $50 it's a good buy.
For some reason they are getting harder and harder to find, at a reasonable
price.

I only charge $55 to prep, powder coat, polish the letters and clear coat
one, but if you want to use one of my cores I charge a refundable core
charge of $75 (which is lower than most) and I am only getting back about
40%, so $50 is not a bad price.  Also keep in mind these are coming off
junked cars for the most part and that normally means they weren't taken
real good care of.  I have to clean the inside of every one except for those
that have used Mobil 1, and they look brand new inside.  But again you're
not going to find many of those in a junk yard, or recycle yard.

Also consider that the price doesn't include shipping which normally runs
around $8-$10.

And fuel rails are the same thing, I only charge $20 for one or $30 for two
to polish or powder coat them but I have to charge a $50 refundable core
charge just to try to get cores back to use.

I know there are several out there that still owe me cores so if you have
them send them to me.

Also a side note if anyone has purchased parts from me and would like to
send me a picture of their engine bay I am looking to start a link on my web
page for customer cars.   Thanks, Dave

Take a look at 3SX's site [ http://www.3sxperformance.com/exhaust.asp ]
They show an ATR setup with an adapter with a slip fit one one end and a
flange on the other. Look about mid-way down on the page.

lot afterwards.

        Subject:        Rattling noise

There is a new noise that I am hearing that is getting louder. I hear a
rattling noise coming from the engine. My thoughts are that it is coming
from some part of the transaxle. I have a 92 Stealth (SOHC), manual
tranny.
Here are my symptoms.

After I have been driving around for 5-10 min and I start to get some heat
(it is cold here in Ontario Canada) I hear a rattling noise coming from
the
engine bay. It gets quite loud after I been driving around for a while.
The
noise sounds like a rattle snake but lower pitch(its a fast rattle). The
noise is at it's loudest when I am just gliding along in gear without
giving
gas. The noise is not as loud when I am giving the car throttle. And when
I
push the clutch in, it goes away. But as soon as I let off the clutch
again
the sound comes back. The rattle is only constant when there is a load on
the engine as in giving throttle or gearing down to slow down. But when I
am
gliding along in gear is tents to blip a bit.

I figure it has to be the tranny or clutch because I don't get the rattle
when I rev the engine in neutral. Also I cannot feel an vibrating on the
shifter when I can hear the noise. So I don't think it is a transmission
thing.

Im starting to get worried now because I really don't have money to get
anything else fixed and the fact the rattle has gotten louder is what
worries me the most.

Has anyone heard this noise, or knows what could make a noise like this
with
my symptoms. And is there anyway to fix it.

Thanks
Jason

I've been trying to determine the same thing. My version is --- all the cars have
precats and cats the difference is the addition of an additional set of 02 sensors
for the for the first generation California cars and all second generation cars. The
downpipes leave the front precats on the California because they have two 02
sensors [ one on the inpput, one on the output ] on the precat. All of the downpipes
leave the rear precat in place.

Maybe ?!?!?    comments anyone.

Ok Gurus,

I'm a little nervous.  I put the axles back into my car today (little victories),and with the transmission in gear, I can still turn the axles.  It's not like they turn FREELY.  It feels more like the splines aren't quite all the way in.  I'm pretty sure the axles are inserted all of the way into the transmission because everything else lines up.  I rebuilt my tranny a while back and everything seemed to go back together properly.  The transmission is still dry, since I have not added fluids to it yet.

Is this normal?  Does/could this have anything to do with the viscous coupling being dry?
