----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 1997 VR-4 with the factory 10-Disc CD Changer in the rear, and I
have all kinds of problems with the unit skipping like crazy even over the
smallest bumps.
I took a look at it today, and the unit doesn't seem to have any kind of
locking device to keep the unit in place when it is vertical. So it
bounces around a lot.
Is there any way that I can brace this unit, so it is more rigid when in
the vertical position so that it won't skip like crazy ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How to brace factory 10cd changer
Anthony,
There is actually a little external switch on the
changer
that you can turn with a coin that needs to be
in the correct setting if the
unit is in the vertical
position.
Good luck

Have you considered just draining the TC before you take it in?

Usually when CD players start skipping it's because the lens is dirty or
the laser needs replacing.

Do you guys think I should take out the AVC-R Electronic boost controller
and K&N Filter before going to the dealer for the recall (if it's
going to come in the mail soon)? I wouldn't want them to find an excuse
not to replace the Transfer Case.
What do you guys think?

Yes, Dodge is slower than Mitsubishi at issuing recall notices. There
is another layer of company to go through. First, Mitsu tells Dodge,
who then must find the original owner.
If anyone has a Stealth and hasn't received a recall notice, you can find
out if DaimlerChrysler has you listed as the current owner, and if they
have your correct mailing address, by calling 800-992-1997. Have
your VIN handy when you call.
I used to be able to get into the database myself from work, but my access
has been limited recently. They have clamped down on security.
Damn criminals and terrorists are ruining it for everybody.

I have the Sylvania silverstar on my 93 VR4 and I like them. They are
WHITER than stock but not really all that much brighter. I think to get
full output out of them we need a higher gauge wire harness.

Team3S: Re: [mi3si] Recall
Mike,
I just took my 92 VR4 to Colonial Mitsu in Danbury, CT and it looks like
I'll be getting a new transfer case and I have a Super-AFC, DSBC,
a-pillar gauges, etc in my car and they didn't say anything about it.

Depends.
1) It would be a Federal Crime for them to deny a claim not directly caused
by your stuff
2) It might just prevent an "issue" you would have to fight later.

Where can I get an after market timing belt for my 94 tt. I want
something stronger and better than the stock one. My stock one
slipped and now I have to reset the timing.

Hey guys-
When searching the web I came upon this site-
It tells you all the recalls and such for each individual car and year. I
bought my 97 SL used, so how do I know if these recalls were done. I
certainly
would like to know about the "selective piston replacement." Can I
just go to
the dealer and ask? what do they all mean?

Team3S: timing belt
I would dare to say if you don't have more than 50K miles on the timing
belt that it may have been installed incorrectly to start.
Generally, the auto-adjuster, or tensioner is installed improperly leading to
t-belt slippage early on...
The timing belt itself is very robust, and generally never breaks, but
stretches over time (this happens even with chain driven camshafts), and
it's a thing you do every 60K miles... if it's quicker than 60K, see my
previous statement - it wasn't done properly the first time...

Team3S: Possible Electrical Issues:
Hey, '93 VR-4, 120K miles
Recent owner of this car, Had an Eclipse GSX
for 4 years, traded it for an SUV, and regretted it ever since. So,
when this car became available, we got rid of the wife's car, because she likes
the SUV.. anyway...
I found the ABS light comes on and stays on.
Upon further investigation
I noticed it only
comes on when I use the brakes while in
motion.
(Suspecting a speed sensor, especially since there is
a
TSB).
What is strange is that I noticed the front washer spray works until
the ABS light comes on. Other things that aren't working (Fog lights,
Power mirrors, rear wiper). With 120K miles these may be normal wear
and tear the previous owner didn't take care of. It sat for a few
months, although it was started at least once a week.
There is a little play in the ignition switch, and a garage mentioned it
may be the cause, but I find it hard to believe there is any fuzzy logic
in the switch that allows some things to work and others not to.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ryan

I have had the switch out and watched as a locksmith took the whole thing
apart. There is nothing in the switch to cause the problems you refer to
Ryan. I have no good suggestions but things like the power mirrors should
be pretty easy to trace. Good luck. Andy

What is the chance that my engine (94 tt) is still alive. The timing
belt
slipped while I was driving 80 mph, at 4000 rpm. I heard a noise for 2
sec
and the car turned off. I tried to start it but the starter motor
would spin
only. Is there any security system on the car that would
protect the engine
when the timing is off.

I believe all the things he mentioned though are things that only work with
the ignition switch on (I'll have to check the mirrors over lunch).
The ETACS unit turns the lights off after the key is removed (or is it
turned off and a door open), wiper would only work with the key on, etc.
There is a "key in ignition" signal to the ETACS from the ignition key
switch that activates the chime and I believe prevents the doors from
being locked while open with the key in the ignition. I have the diagram
at home so you could probe that line to the ETACS and see if wiggling the
switch causes the level to change. I do believe a bad ignition key
switch could cause the problems the owner is having.
