Re: Team3S: Why do many have low (11V) voltage at the fuel pump?
Well, until Mitsu or one of their engineers officially documents the
internal
workings of the engine control module, we will never know for sure
exactly how
the ECM performs its magic. However, widely available
publications from
acknowledged authorities do give us some clues.
I have finally had a chance to briefly search through my library, and the
following two books were helpful.
Horst Bauer (editor-in-chief), 1999, Bosch Gasoline-Engine Management, 1st
ed.: SAE International, 370 p.
Charles O. Probst, 2001, Corvette Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine
Management: Bentley Publishers, 388 p.
The Bosch book (p. 279) re-affirms the Mitsu technical manual description
of
how basic injector activation time is calculated: "The base injection
timing
is calculated directly from the load signal and from the injector
constants."
The "load signal" in our case is the calculated A/N values (basically air
flow
per cylinder each revolution) and the "injector constants" are the
stored
parameters concerning injector flow rates at idle differential
pressure and
boost differential pressure (~34 psi and ~43 psi,
respectively).
So Bosch and Mitsubishi have plainly stated it is a direct calculation.
Other
ECM actions obviously and correctly use look-up tables (or maps). But
I
believe this discussion started with how the *basic injector activation
time*
was affected by fuel pressure or other factors.
Chapter 5 "Control Module - The Brain" in Probst's book makes interesting
reading also. While it is concerned with the control modules used in
Corvettes, the principles apply universally.

Ain't "tiars" Texan for tires?

Anyone know where I can find this info? I looked on
www.stealth316.com, but couldn't find
it.
