Subject: Team3S: 93 Stealth won't idle after timing belt change

I just finished changing the timing belt and water pump on my 93 Stealth DOHC
with 135k miles. I used the 60k service instructions from Team3s and they were
right on!

The car started fine after the job (I had the battery unhooked while working
on it) but once it warmed up it would not idle. It will idle with the a/c on
however. The car drives great except for this - I have to keep my foot on the
peddle to keep it from killing at stops, what do I check? it ran fine before I
changed the belt, could I have done something to cause this? any help would be
really appreciated. thanks

You may want to check the throttle cable and make sure it is adjusted
properly.

Subject: Team3S: Electric Window Problem

I need a resource for my right sided electric window
on my 95 VR4.
I have taken off the door panel and plastic
undersheet, (thanx Erik for "trial" removal a few
months ago).
It appears that one of the large plastic guides is
broken, but it is hard to see and I could sure use a
diagram or some reference info.
Problem: Window only goes partway down without
assistance. Makes clunking noises as it goes.
Thanx

Subject: Team3S: oil filter

Hey folks,

Is the oil filter on the VR4 on the driver's side?  I've got what looks
like motor oil dripping from the frame and I can't really see where it's
coming from.  Of course everything is closed this afternoon so I can't
pursue it until tomorrow.  Had my oil changed by a quickie joint about a
month ago...

Thanks!

Yes, the oil filter is on the driver's side, quite easy to access. If
retorquing the filter doesn't help, realize that it could also be your oil
cooler, which is mounted in the front of the driver side wheel well. I
believe it's the main eye bolt gasket on the cooler that generally breaks
down. It's a very tight spot to work on. Although I'm tool-equipped and
mechanically inclined, I had to take the car to my mechanic and from what he
said I believe that all he did was tighten it. I've seen no leak ever since.
Good luck.

Subject: Team3S: Smoke help (kinda long)

Hey fellas, i need some more ideas here cuz this smoke problem is driving me
crazy. I have a '94 Vr-4 with a brand new short block dropped in about 3000
miles ago. First 2200 miles or so, no problems whatsoever. All of a sudden,
large quantities of whitish/bluish smoke out the tail pipe at idle and while
accelerating/descelarating.  Then it died down to where only a little smoke
whould puff out after idling more than 45 secs to a minute when engine was
hot. Then, this weekend i got stuck in some NY traffic and the smoke
returned (with a vengeance, lol!) Then again it went away a little. I spent
half the day today doing what was previously advised by you guys to check
for signs of a blown turbo. I checked both pipes at the y-pipe and found no
oil at all, just some slight dry soot. I disconnected the ic pipes further
down, again no oil. Disconnected the BOV pipe, no oil. Changed PCV valve,
same problem. I did notice that oil is leaking out around the oil cap area.
Also, the pressure hose that goes from the top-right valve cover area to
wherever it goes was broken around the cover fitting and it was pretty wet
with oil inside.  I disconnected the ic pipe at the rear turbo and i did
find some very slight oil there,. I haven't dropped the DP yet cuz i don't
have the tools but since oil is obviously getting into the exhaust, finding
oil there wouldn't help me much in diagnosing the problem would it(?). Oh,
and this is by far the weirdest thing of all. The large quantities of smoke
always seem to return when driving downhill. There's this steep hill i drive
down to get to our parking lot and it always seems to puff out lots of smoke
there. what the F---?

Oops, i forgot to mention one more thing before I start hearing the Valve
Stem Seals advise. The heads were worked on by the machine shop and all 12
intake valves we're replaced and all 24 valves had all the seals replaced as
well. So i doubt that can be the problem...

Subject: Team3S: Triple Digit Fat Lip Blues

I've been running my 94 VR4 into triple digits a lot these days. I can easily hit 100 mph at the end of my entrance ramp onto the interstate, so I do that every day. Sometimes I run it on up to 130 or so for a couple of miles, and I've touched 150 twice in the past few weeks.

I was cleaning the bugs off the front of the car just now, and noticed that my front end is coming apart.

The bottom of the front bumper at the grill opening has come loose from the flat metal plate in front of the radiator. I can push down on the bottom of the bumper, and it gets like a...well, like a fat lower lip. The flat plate in front of the radiator is tilting up, and I suspect it's been pushed up by air flow. I can imagine what this looks like at 150 mph -- like I've pushed the car's mouth up against a glass plate (as in Blue Crush).

Go to http://www.bazillionbooks.com/brokenrotor.htm and click on the first photo to blow it up. You can see the flat plate in front of the radiator sticking up about a half-inch all the way across. It's gotten a little worse since this photo was taken.

In olden days, the flexible front bumper covered the front of the flat plate, and formed a nice neat opening to the radiator. I noticed a year or so ago that the flat plate was pulling up and away from the bumper, so I replace the little cheapie plastic push pins with nuts and bolts. That stopped it for a while, but now it's come back.

I guess I'll have to disassemble the front end this winter and put everything back properly, but I wonder...anybody else have this problem? What about you Yurpeans, who run big numbers on the autobahns...are your front ends coming apart like this?

Anybody got a nice neat solution?

Well today the car started up fine and has run with no problems at all! just
like it did before. I wonder if the ECU needed to sort itself out after the
battery was diconnected for a couple days. I hope it stays this way. thanks

Whitish / blue smoke?   Sounds like coolent.   Hows your head and seals?
We just had that problem on our 94 VR4.  Typical  problem.  Have it
checked out ...... not good, but not major.

Well, I had all gaskets replaced and the heads were resurfaced (or whatever
it is they do to them at the machine shop). All seals were replaced too.
Would I be able to see "something" in the coolant itself? Will the coolant
level drop significantly? I'm more than positive it is oil burning somewhere
cuz I can smell it.  I've read on the archives and on 3SI that some people
get smoke problems after gutting the precats and removing the main cat. I
did this to my car but before I installed the new block. Why's that?

Subject: Team3S: Part # please

I'm not entirely sure of what the part is called, but if you are in front of
the car looking at the engine, it is a hose that runs from the bottom right
side of the plenum. It's a fairly thick hose, I think its braided, and it
has a plastic section inside it I think. I pulled it off when I replaced my
plugs and it tore a little. Can someone give me the official name or the
part # or both? Thank you!

Subject: Team3S: Please not a head gasket

I was driving yesterday and noticed a LOUD clicking
coming from under the hood.  I stopped and popped the
hood and I'm fairly sure its the crankshaft that's
cliking.  I added about half a quart of oil and that
only quieted the clicking for about five maybe ten
minutes.  I also noticed a huge drop in power before I
added the oil.  Even after added though, the turbo's
would spool up really fast, but I wasn't getting any
really boost.  Only after releasing the pedal and
reapplying pressure did I accelerate.  Any help on
this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
