Subject: Team3S: Let's go autocrossing

The local Corvette Club is having its annual Hawkeye Downs autocross on Sept 21 and 22. On Sept 22 they run two events. I dunno what they do on Sept 21.

http://www.cedarrapidscorvetteclub.com/prod04.htm

This is a boss cross that is perfect for our cars. It's on a paved half mile ASA track, and is fast, Fast, FAST!!!

Click on http://www.hawkeyedownsspeedway.com/

We start at the extreme bottom right at Pit Out, accelerate like a dragster to cross the start line at mid track at about 80 mph, then do a lap in the low groove of the half mile oval (it's pyloned off to keep us away from those beckoning walls). Upon exiting turn 4 at bottom right, we enter the 1/4 mile paved oval, do a lap (no pylons), do another lap of the 1/2 mile oval, and cross the start/finish line at speed. It is all third gear!!!  When's the last time you ran an autocross in 3rd gear???

Speeds are supposed to be under 80 mph (it's classified as a low-speed autocross for insurance purposes), but when I ran it two years ago, I was hitting 75 on the 1/2 mile oval through the turns, and 90+ on the straights. With a little more boost this year, I anticipate crossing the S/F line at 100mph. That's my goal, anyway. That, and FTD.

This 'cross brings in heavy 'Vette hardware from six states. It's some sort of national points event for them, so they bring in their trailer queens and Z06es, but we can beat 'em!  Two years ago, I finished 5th out of 65 cars, and only got beat by trailer queens. I want FTD this time.

Anybody in the Midwest care to join me? Cedar Rapids is 3-5 hours from Mnpls, Milwaukee, Chicago, St. Louis, and so on.

Subject: Team3S: Fog Light Suggestions

Hey All,

Recently I installed a set of xenon bulbs into the H4 light assembly for my
91 3000GT SL.  They look awesome and light up the road wonderfully, but my 12
year old foglights look extremely dim and dirty compared to the bright clean
headlights.  Does anyone know of a xenon replacement bulb that would work in
the existing foglight casing?  And if not does anyone recommend a particular
brand of foglights that would match xenon headlights?  Thanks for your help!

Subject: Team3S: Tyres for 17 inch rims

Thanks Darren

As I mentioned mine is a Middle East specs, 1999 model, and is different in
many respects to your specs in the States (i.e. I use "leaded fuel", 5 speed
manual, no O2 sensors, low rear spoiler and unfortunately mine is fitted
with 17 X 7.5 JJ inch rims. I have sent the entire English/Arabic sales
brochure to someone on the list and he was surprised at the differences. I
think it might also have an uprated cooling system as the temperature here
is around 50 C during the summer months and I drive 50 miles to work at an
average speed of over 100MPH and the temp. gauge never goes above midway.
I will assume that the 235/45's will fit OK, just need the expert advise
from the list as to which tyre is best, remember it only rains here about 3
times a year so good traction in the dry is important for me.

Hey fellas, one quick questions this morning.

My driver side mirror is very loose and moves when I hit a hard bump. How
can I tighten it up?

I have a 1991 RT and the radio has died. I am looking for the am/fa/cd/cass
factory radio for my car.  If anyone out there has one that is working and
they are willing to part with it please let me know as I will be more than
happy to pay for it.

Subject: Re: AEM ECU update (Re: Team3S: Just venting...)

Well, another disappointment.

I do not know how AEM tested it and what they did to this unit, but the
injectors work exactly like they did before
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~gphilip/Stock%20and%20AEM%20injectors%20firing.gif

but now I do not have any spark on my coil #3 that feeds cylinders 3 and 6.
I can tell it easily by pulling the spark plug wires. And that is with the
latest calibration file.

So, now my engine is running only on 2 cylinders.

I think it is time for AEM to send me a new ECU. I am getting sick from
breathing exhaust of an engine that runs on two cylinders. The car does not
like it either.

What a waste of a Labor Day weekend. ;-(
