I would assume the galling occurs as the nut is being undone ---- if it was torqued
and then somehow the heat/racing increased the stretch on the bolt galling could
occur as soon as it starts to move --- in most track applications the work is being
done with hand tools so it's unlikely that the studs are crossthreaded initially which
is the most common problem with studs.I think it was Merritt that had problems as
a result of retightening when hot and breaking studs --- some form of galling is the
only thing I can think of.

Antisieze works for me --- I haven't broken a stud and more importantly none of my
nuts fell off.        Sorry about that, I couldn't help myself.

I think those are different responses ---- stuck rotors as a result of road salt and
other such goo, no corrosion would occur as a result of a track event.

Does anyone have 1/4 mile times from the National Gathering?  I'm wondering
if anyone ran a 10 or even set a new record.  Looking at the pics you would
think that one of those cars with monster turbos would do it.  Unless they
were just "show" cars.

Did GT Pro deliver on their 1000 hp promise?
A 1000hp car should run in the low 9s.

Man I wish I wasn't working that weekend.  Maybe next year.

would look bad as an instructor if I slide off the track on the parade lap,
LOL!!!

Nice air ducts, BTW.

John,

I got my big reds from Stoddard Porsche in Ohio.  It seems like they were
around $800 for the pair, but I'm not sure.  It probably pays to shop
around.  Just ask for a quote on a set of 993 turbo front calipers.  You
will need to make, or have made, a set of adapter brackets.  I've got a cad
print if you need it.  I sent it to someone a while back who said they were
going to put it on their web site, but I can't recall who it was.

Those curious about the GTPro drag car (DragPro), it's not ready to run
yet.  Enough tuning was done to get it to run under it's own power,
idle, and maybe get some decent high load power.  No mid load and low
load maps were derived for the AEM ECU in the time they had prior to the
gathering, therefore, no launching ability nor shifting ability.  When
things are worked out (shortly), I'm sure you'll hear about it.  Lord
knows, I want to hear about it, if not see it.

Subject: Fw: Team3S: Request procedure to replace thermostat

I don't have an official step-by-step procedure for the thermostat, but it
is simple, and I've done it so I'll tell you what I did.

Preparations -Have replacement coolant mixture
-Have a scraper in case the old gasket won't come off
-Responsibly collect old coolant, which flows out of the
engine when you pull the hoses

Remove the Y-Pipe
Unplug and removed the MAS (not necessary, but gives a little more room)
Remove the air intake hose that connects to the MAS
Remove the lower radiator hose (coolant will begin flowing out)
Remove the four bolts of the thermostat housing (they are different sizes so
label them)
Remove the cover for the thermostat housing
Remove the old thermostat
Install the new thermostat, there is jiggle valve that needs to be aligned
with the mark on the top of the housing.
Reverse removal procedures, when reinstalling the air intake hoses there are
markings on the tops that need to be aligned.  And, remember to reconnect
the MAS wiring.

Best Regards,
Dan Johnson

Everything you want to know about the Greddy Type S is explained here.
http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=51052

Looking at the CAD drawing in that link, the vac. hose connects to the upper
nipple.  The other one is left open.  There are only two vacuum ports.

Highly recommended!

The gasket on mine was a rubber seal that went around the edge of
the thermostat housing --- not a flat gasket as you would have for the
exhaust manifold for example. FWIW --- I mentioned this before but
I thought it worth repeating. The Great Satin wanted $50 or $60 for
the thermostat, I found what appears to be an exact duplicate at an
auto parts store for about $17 --- they also had a generic POS one
for $9 which should be avoided unless you're selling the car to
someone you don't like.

Subject: Team3S: Greddy Type S - Catching Gear Linkage?

Installed my Greddy Type S BOV last night...
I think I got it in right (the car runs and I can hear
it "blow off").... so I assume I got it on right.
I have a hard time, near impossible, getting it into
1st, 3rd and 5th gears.

Somewhere I had heard about it interfering with the
gear linkage. It was a thread I read a long time ago.

Does anyone know about this and how to reposition the
Greddy Type S so it doesn't interfere. I looked at it
very briefly this morning at my office and can't see
where it is catching...

Also, there are two ports (vacuum) but we only have
one line. The other one attaches to what? Or does it
stay open to the atmosphere?

Sorry guys, I know many of you have probably heard
this a million times, but I could use your guidance.
Thanx!

I think I found where it is catching, in fact I am
pretty sure I can see it.
It appears that I need to elevate the MAS and the K&N
a little so the linkage can slide under the BOV. It is
barely catching the end of it.
Did everyone make a custom bracket for the K&N?
What about the second vacuum nipple?

I looked that up after I posted and found the same thing --- I wonder if
Rockville Mitsu is selling a non Mitsu part. Or maybe I was quoted wrong
at my dealer ???  I just called my dealer and was quoted $39.40 this time,
still a pretty good markup.

What car do you have again?  The linkage is different from a first gen
VR-4 to a second gen VR-4 and that might be enough to make the
difference.  I think you can search the archives of where people zip-tie
the BOV up and out of the way.

Somewhere I had heard about it interfering with the
gear linkage. It was a thread I read a long time ago.

I had a similar problem on my 95VR4 after installing the Greddy BOV.  I
ziptied the BOV up and out of the way as best I could but I still had a
little problem occasionally getting into 5th gear.  I noticed that the
corner of the counterweight on the linkage was still catching up on the BOV.
So I decided to use my Dremel tool with a small grinding wheel to grind down
the corner of the counterweight enough so that it's out of the way.  I can
provide a pic tomorrow if you'd like.  Send me a private email and let me
know.

I found the same thing with the fuel filter I

The 'List' price the local dealer charged me was about

Hey anyone want to have fun??  call your local dealer

post the results.  I think we will find that 'List' is

I have been meaning to ask this for a while, particularly b/c I may be

Other than a 3 psi increase in boost (approximate) what accounts for the
15HP difference between the 93 and 94 model year cars?

Different cam grinds? more timing via the ECU?

I just reinstalled my ECU and I am still having the same problem.  Only now
it seems a lot more pronounced.

Could this be caused by a bad ISC?  I disconnected my ISC and ran the car.
Same result.  Only difference is that the car idled at about 1400 rpms.

Would a ISC that is staying open at WOT cause the car to hesitate?

Fairly complete cylinder head and timing train info:

http://www.stealth316.com/2-headinfo.htm

Head assemblies have the same part number for production date 9205.1 till the
end of production. However, '91 and '92 heads may actually bolt to '93 and
later blocks. There really are very few differences in heads between years and
turbo/non-turbo models - DOHC.

Interestingly, CAPS data indicate model years start with 9x06.1 production
dates. However, CAPS lists the heads changing in 9205.1, one month before '93
production should have started. CAPS does show the block assembly changing on
9206.1 so maybe this is a typo in CAPS. Because of the CAS move from the head
to the block in '93, both the block and head must change at the same time.

I had this recently with dash defrost vents. Two local dealerships here in
SE FL quoted me both the highest and lowest prices I can find. Same for a
TPS - $106 vs $170. They're about 6 miles apart.....and are both owned by
the same entity!!!

I think Mitsu gives out a msrp, and the dealerships take it from there.
Coconut Creek Mitsu can even beat Rockville if you say your are 3si/teams3s.
But they won't ship, so for lucky locals only.

replace thermostat

I had this recently with dash defrost vents. Two local dealerships here
in
SE FL quoted me both the highest and lowest prices I can find. Same for
a
TPS - $106 vs $170. They're about 6 miles apart.....and are both owned
by
the same entity!!!

I think Mitsu gives out a msrp, and the dealerships take it from there.
Coconut Creek Mitsu can even beat Rockville if you say your are
3si/teams3s.
But they won't ship, so for lucky locals only.

thermostat

I found the same thing with the fuel filter I
purchased Locally (Korum Mitsubishi, Puyallup WA).
The 'List' price the local dealer charged me was about
20 percent higher that the Rockville 'list' price.

Hey anyone want to have fun??  call your local dealer
and get a price for the thermostat (MD174234).  E-mail
me privately with the price and dealership, and I will
post the results.  I think we will find that 'List' is
just a made up number.

Subject: Team3S: How to remove cigarette lighter?

Hey all,

I fried my lighter and aux power source a few years back using a portable
air pump, and now that I'm back on the road I need to get these working (for
G-Tech, cell-phone, and uhh, smoking)

I traced the lighter problem to the lighter itself,  I have power going into
it.  But - I can't figure our how to get the darn thing out to replace it.
I see that there's a few plastic clips around it,  of which I immediate
broke a few trying to release them.  But that didn't help.

What's the secret?

Thanks,

Steve C.

Subject: Team3S: Big Hiccup

Hey! What was that big Internet hiccup just now?
For about 15 minutes at abotu 6:15-6:30 central time, I couldn't raise nobody, not on phone, private Intranet nor cable modem. When I got through to one of my ISPs, the Internet was dead.
Are we going to read about this tomorrow in COMPUTERWORLD?

Rich/slow old poop
momentairily out of touch with the world.
