Team3S: stealth 220000 km high gasoline consumption
To close the Internet
Check up of my car before taking it to the Mitsu
dealer, I still need Your
help:
I already discovered through your help that probably one or
two sensors and
fuelfilters do not work perfectly.
Now 2 more
questions:
1) When I start the car in the morning, the car starts
perfectly, coming out
from the garage, I have to drive uphill for 300 meters,
if I try to
accelerate normally as I was used to, the car cannot accelerate
and drives
"sobbing" in second gear at 20 km/h..., after a while when the
motor is warm
everything is normal
What could be reason?
2) When I
stop the car and I try to restart with warm motor, instead of
starting
immediately as was used to, I need to repeat the action 2
times
Why?

Subject: Team3S: Oil
Leak only on high RPM downshifting
Hey Guys, Need some help. When
down shifting at higher RPM to help bring
the car to a stop I get burning oil
smoke from under the hood. The smoke
seems to be heavier on the passenger
side, but hard to tell. I have checked
for oil leaks at oil cap, valve cover
gaskets, under the car, etc. and cant
find evidence of a leak. This
symptom does not occur under normal driving
conditions. If anybody has
experienced a similar problem I could sure use
some direction.
I am
getting ready to do a 60k tune on the car and would really like to fix
this
as well.

Before going on a witch hunt,
replace your PCV valve and the connecting
hoses. If you can't find the
replacement hoses in your nearby store, then
clean out and leak test the
existing ones before replacing them. Good luck.

You could gut the pre-cat(s)
too if you want a few extra HP. Just remember
that it'll make your main cat
wear out quicker and your cold start emissions
will be a little worse 'til
warm up.

Verifying the blown strut
is easy. Just go to that wheel and press down on
it with all your
weight. If it bounces up more than once, it is blown. The
front
struts are easy to replace. If you have basic tools, all you have to
do
then is buy spring compressors and you can do it yourself. A
impact
wrench and air compressor is a huge plus here but not necessary.
I would
recommend buying 2 sets of spring compressors. When I did mine,
I wished I
had a 3rd compressor a few times because there was no way I could
get 2
compressors on 180 degrees apart. I bought my compressors from
Harbor
Freight Tools for about $10 a pair. Be sure to mark your
alignment camber
setting before you remove the spring.
How is your
pre-cat leaking? Is it cracked or does it have a hole in it?
If it
isn't cracked or has a hole, then you just need a new gasket. I
found
gaskets at Kragen auto parts for $2.66 each. The precat is also
reletively
easy to replace unless your exhaust bolts are rusted solid or
seized. I
would try it myself first before I paid someone. You
will probably have to
take your down pipe off with the front pre-cat.
That just means 4 nuts and
one bolt more to remove.

Re: Team3S: Oil Leak only on high RPM downshifting
I would look around
your exhaust manifolds, turbos, pre-cats and down pipe.
Those are hot enough
to instantly smoke when oil hits them as you drive. I
can't think of
anything else hot enough to instantly smoke oil like that.
There should be a
dark burnt oil stain on any part that burned oil. It
should be easy to
see on the light colored heat shields.
Personally, for street driving I
only use the engine to brake when I'm going
down hill or when I'm already in
gear. I only downshift for power. My
philosiphy is that I would
rather put more wear on my brake pads than on my
clutch and engine.
That's just my opinion.

Team3S: Broken transfercase
I managed to break my car on the way to the
Import Day at the local
dragstrip a week ago so I didn't make it to the
Shootout. It turns out that
I broke the helical gear on the input shaft
of the transfercase. It
stripped off a few teeth, which is nice.
Finally I broke something that's
reasonably easy to repair.
;-)
http://mjannusch.home.attbi.com/xferinput.jpgAnyone
broken this before? Seems like the only problems I've heard
with
transfercases have been stripped input sleeves or massively
disintegrated
bearings from oil leaking out.
I guess the car is making
some real nice power now to bust that gear. I
might have to try to make
the National Gathering after all since I missed
the Shootout again this
year.

Verifying the blown strut is easy. Just go to that wheel and

it with all your weight.
***The springs in our cars are
so stiff that a blown strut is difficult to
verify by this method.
Crawl under the car and look for oil leaking around
the strut - that's
definitive.
If it bounces up more than once, it is blown.
The
front struts are easy to replace.
