Vibration
At about 60MPH I get a vibration that can be seen and felt at
the streering wheel. I recently got new tires and rims however I have had
three different shops verify that all four wheels are balanced properly. I
even had the weights removed and replace just to insure that they were not
causing the problem. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Regards Charles

Swap the wheels
front to rear. If the problem goes away, it's one of the
tires or wheels.
Perhaps a tread separation, flat spot or out-of-round tire
or an out-of-round
wheel. Rotate them back one at a time to figure out
which one. Since
you just got new tires and wheels, that has to be the
problem.

Here's another thought: Did you get centering rings with
your fancy new
wheels? Folks have been discussing this for a coupla days
here. If the
rings got left off by the tire shop when they mounted your tires
the first
time, that would cause your problem. Pop off one wheel, and
see if it has
a centering ring (mine look like a 2-in.-dia steel O-ring that
fits into a
special recess on the back of the wheel, and they tend to fall
out if I'm
not careful in handling the wheels).
If you don't find a
centering ring, check with the wheel vendor, and see if
it was supposed to
come with centering rings.
I can just see one of the $6/hr good ol' boys
at the tire shop saying,
"Whut's dis fer?" and tossing them
away.

Subject: Team3S: Idle
Problems
After I start the car , even in warm weather, the engine idle is
high,
maybe 1500 or so. When I come to a stop sign or light and shift
into
neutral, the engine revs from 700 to 1400. When I come to a stop
the
engine revs to a steady 1500 or 2000 RPMs. Sometimes the Rpms are
at
700, but rarely any more. Could it be the idle control motor or
the
ECU.
Sorry, Car is 1991 R/T TT 166,000 miles.
Also, while I'm
asking a question, at about 70 MPH the steering
vibrates. I did have a bad cv
joint boot , so i had all four rebuilt.
Any Help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you

RE: Team3S: Idle Problems
Sounds like the ISC to me. I am going to
find one today for myself for
the same type of thing. Mine won't drop
down below 1800 rpm's no matter
what though. I took my ISC out, and
determined through the service
manual that it was faulty. I recommend
doing the same. Also, you may
have carbon deposits in there, which
would have to be cleaned manually.

Team3S: Idle Problems
This problem and the other one mentioned in the
other thread could be either the TPS or ISC. The Throttle Position Sensor
can be adjusted. I believe the voltage is suppose to be in the .45 to .49
volt range. Check the manual for adjustment procedures. When the
voltage is too high, you'll probably get idle surge. When too low, the TPS
won't "catch" your RPMs when they drop between shifts and your car might
die.
I'm not sure how to adjust the ISC, but this could still be the
problem too.

Also be sure the tire pressures are correct. If
you swap front to rear
and pressures are perfect then the rear tires will be
at 36 psi and the
front at 32 psi instead of the other way around. I
know that when I get
3 of 4 tires dead on and the other is a few psi low
(like 29 psi in the
rear) then I can tell from the steering wheel
vibration.

You are quite correct Merritt. The
rings, which tirerack calls hubcentric
rings, are a critical component.
Without them you get all sorts of wierd
problems that come and go. If left
off, or bent, there are likely to be
vibration problems that come and
go.

Team3S: Team 3S: Used Car Q&A Time!
A while back my car had a ummm...
slightly fatal accident and I've been
on the look out for a new 3000gt to
replace my old one. I've found a 94
Base model (which is all I can afford
now that I've been fired from my
part time job) for 7000 from a guy who
works at a Mitsubishi dealership
here in Lafayette, Louisiana. Thats almost
900 dollars less than the
blue book but the car seems to be fine. Is there
anything in particular
I should look into before committing? He said it has
had the 60k service
done at 61k miles and all but are there any other
parts/issues with the
cars at or around 80,000 miles that seem to pop up?
Anything that will
probably need work soon? Thanks for all the help in
advance and I hope
these questions are a little smarter than my insurance
question ;)

automatic trans shifter?
Hello all,
I have a 92 SL
with automatic transmission. Lately the shift lever
has become pretty sloppy
with front/rear side/side play in it. It still
shifts OK but for how long?
Anybody ever have this problem? I've looked
at the repair manual on CD and
don't really see anything to tighten up.
Could it be a worn out bushing in
the mechanism?
