Subject: Team3S: Alcohol injection

Hello all,

I'm curious about how successful Alcohol injection works on our 3/S cars.
Does anyone have any success stories regarding Alcohol injection?  I am in
the process of getting a system and I'm not sure if I should install it in
my '92 3000GT VR4 or my '87 Buick Grand National (both are heavily modified
yet still have stock intercoolers).  I know that the alcohol injection
system works great with Buick GN's, but what about our 3/S TT cars??

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Team,

I need to pull the block out of the car.

The heads are off and can be repaired.  I measured the
block bores and #4 is out of round.

Since the TT has 93k miles, I want to replace the
rings  and may need to bore the block and get new
pistons etc too.

Question:  Does the block come out from the top or is
it lowered thru the bottom?

Question:  Does the clutch/transmission stay on the
block or must it be unbolted/removed?

The manual didn't say so, but surely the front half
shafts must have to be removed from the transmission.

Thanks in advance,
John

Does anyone have a set of 4 OEM Stealth base 15" wheels for sale?  If you do
please e-mail me.  I need to know the asking price, condition of all 4
wheels, and your location.  I live in Alaska so I need to figure out what
the shipping cost will be.

Thanks

Subject: Team3S: 1995 3000GT Base stock exhaust

If anyone is interested -- I have a partial exhaust from a 1995 3000GT Base
(it is the part after where the straight exhaust pipe comes back and
connects to the pipe that then goes to the left-hand muffler).  It is the
stock muffler and stock resonator.  I will be using it for my own use if
nobody else wants it.

I haven't weighed it yet so if you want to pay the cost of shipping then it
can be yours.  Name your price as I don't think anyone ever buys the stock
exhaust parts.  I was thinking that if anybody wanted to modify the muffler
or add a second one onto their car then this is a perfect specimen to do
that with.

Let me know.

Comes out the top.

You might* be able to get it out with the tranny attached, but it'll be
easier if the tranny is off.  I took it off when I pulled my motor.

Axles definitely need to be removed before pulling the motor.  The air
conditioning compressor can be unbolted and left out of the way, as should
the power steering pump on the rear side.

I've actually found that it's a little easier to remove and install the
engine with the tranny attached.  You just have to angle the whole assembly
at it comes out so as to clear the frame rail.  My main problem with pulling
the trans seperately is that it is large and cumbersone.  It is also a LOT
easier to line up and install the trans with the motor out of the car.  In
the end I guess it just comes down to personal preference :)

That's definitely good info!  When I reinstall the motor I'll try doing it
with the tranny attached.  I'm using a chain hoist with a trolly that rolls
along an I-beam on my garage ceiling, so I don't have a lot of side-to-side
movement available without just muscling the motor around.  I could see that
it would be easier with a floor hoist, that's for sure!

I just got the block stripped down today.  Verdict:  All six pistons are
damaged to various degrees.  #4 is pretty much destroyed, similarly to
Roger's #4 (http://www.rtec.ch/PISTON1x.jpg) although mine fractured the top
portion above the ring instead of the land below it.  There were no pieces
in the oilpan on mine, and none in the cylinders themselves, other than a
small section of ring (apparantly from #4) in #2.

Basically just a bunch of bad news for my motor.  The cylinder walls look
good, and the crank looks good so far...

I'll post some pictures when I have a chance to pull the images off the
camera.

Ugh.

Subject: Team3S: Question for those with Big Reds regarding rotors size

Hi All,

Since there are quite a few of you who either have or know a heck of a lot
about the Big Red set up I have a question for you.

I had heard, since I don't have the Big Red set up yet, that the pads over
lap the 94+ stock rotors by a fraction of an inch.  First is this true and
if so has anyone found a rotor, from maybe a Surpa, or something, that might
fit the Big Red set up better?  Or even spoke to Porterfield to see what
they have available, if this is the case?

As soon as I can hook up with Flash, I am going to try one of my wheels on
his car to make sure I have clearence, before I decide what I am going to
do.

Thanks,

Dave Best
