Are you talking about completely eliminating the function of the center diff?  I hope you're only driving around in slick weather.  I have an '88 Subaru XT6 full-time 4wd which has a center diff lock, and when the center diff is locked it drives around like a tank (severe braking effect when turning) - not to mention any turns cause great stress to the drivetrain, since your wheels will naturally want to move at different speeds (but cannot since the center differential is locked up).  Again, this works fine in slick road conditions (ice, snow, gravel, dirt) but on dry pavement it's not very fun for you or your car while turning.

Arty,
I don't now anything about welding or pinning our center diffs. But
the torque split is already 50/50 the best I can determine. My
reasoning can be found on my web page below. Let me know what you
think. Remember the torque split only applies when traction is equal
to *all* tires. If traction is less for one or more tires then more
torque goes to the tire(s) with better traction (or at least will try
to).

I'm trying to have my Center Diff Welded but it looks like the casing
weld won't hold a real hard launch. Nor, does welding the spyder
gears look like a good idea? Does anyone know how this is done or if
it has ever been done on a VR-4?My objective is to have the torque
split 50/50 so only half the HP reaches each set of wheels. Maybe the
drive train will hold? It will be a shame to break on launch :(

Subject: Team3S: TEIN SETUP vs. STOCK STRUTS & INTRAX SPRINGS

Hi everyone.  I have a 92RT/TT with a bad suspension system.  My struts are
going,  and my car still sits at the same height it came from the factory
with.
I like the ECS, so if I stay with the stock struts, how much are they with
our discount?  Also, If I get those, I'll need some lowering springs to help
the look of the car.  I'm wondering, with the springs and struts, how close
will the price be to the TEIN suspension system?  I'm thinking I may go with
that setup because it will be close to the same price but much better
handling and performance.  Any ideas would be helpful.

A set of 4 ECS struts should cost about $560 from one of the discount
dealers.  A set of Eibach springs should run about $240.  So at about $800,
you are about half-way to a set of Tein coil-overs which are about $1600
with the pillow ball mounts...

Try faulty/poorly adjusted rear hatch switches.  The tonneau needs to be
fully closed and switches closed prior to the 1/4 windows closing.

Next time you have this problem.  Get out, push down on both sides of the
tonneau (up front where it latches)

is there some reason you don't want to go with the ground control suspension

awfully expensive.

Does anyone out there know where I can find a good step by step procedure
for:

1. Hooking up the EGT wires ?
2. How to attach them and where exactly to attach them (96 RT/TT)

I am contemplating a turbo upgrade this winter and definitely want to
install the EGT gauges.  Also where I can I find a good set of gauges ? I
currently use an Autometer Boost gauge, but haven't seen any EGT gauges on
their site.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

the exhaust.

The wires will go to the sensor that should come with the EGT gauge.  Wires
for lights in the gauge and such hook up the same as they do for boost
gauges and such.

> 2. How to attach them and where exactly to attach them (96 RT/TT)

You need to drill and tap holes in the exhaust manifolds before the turbo
and insert the sensor(s) there and then connect the supplied wires between
the gauge and the probe(s).

I decided to use the SPA Technique digital Boost/EGT gauge.  Its spendy
though, at $330.

Westach makes an inexpensive one:

I was tormented by this decision for a few months when I was going to
replace the suspension on my base model (no ECS).  I decided on the Tein and
while I was waiting on the 2nd set to arrive from Japan (UPS broke the 1st
set), I found this pretty "VR-4" thing and had to buy it.  Since it has ECS
and my budget got a giant dent in it from the VR-4, I decided to Kancel
the order on the Tein setup.  If/when I replace the suspension on my VR-4,
I'll get the Tein HA kit.

Here's the way I looked at it:

Ground Control + Stock Struts/Shocks:
$700 Stock Struts & Shocks
$399 GC perches & springs
$299 Front Camber plates
$299 (Can you even put the Camber plates on the rear?)

$1697 Total

With this, you still don't have camber adjustments from above in the rear
AND if you lower the car or use higher-rate springs, it will EAT your stock
struts (heard this from several people).  Also, having ridden in a VR-4 with
ECS and H&R springs, the stock shocks just weren't designed to operate well
with the car lowered - they have incredibly little travel.  And, as my
friend says, the Tour/Sport button becomes the Sport/UltraSport button.
Long trips on imperfect roads in that car would require frequent rest stops
and perhaps a visit to the chiropractor.  Also, I'd wonder if there were any
fitment/noise issues with this setup, but I think GC generally makes pretty
good stuff.  Finally, AFAIK, the GC camber plates require drilling new holes
in the strut towers and not using the stock holes.

Tein(approx. prices):
$1400 HA kit
$230 Front Pillow-ball mounts
$230 Rear Pillow-ball mounts

$1860 Total

This has it all - front and rear height/damping/alignment adjustment.  The
kit was designed together, so I'd hope that the shocks were designed to
handle the spring rates and suspension travel.  Every vendor SWORE to me
that these are bolt-in replacements requiring absolutely no modifications to
the stock mounting locations (I like that feature).  The only 2 things
keeping me from this kit at the moment are that I like to be able to adjust
the ECS damping rates from the driver's seat (and that the car also adjusts
them according to conditions) and the cost (as my stock suspension is
nowhere near in need of replacement at 33k miles).

My son and I have been using the GC/Eibach setup WITHOUT camber plates for 3
years on two cars.  We are NOT eating stock struts, nor are we wearing out
tires.  We drive on the street lowered about 1/4 inch and another 1/2 inch
lower on the track.

I am in the middle of transplanting these from my '93 to my '94.

- - The power mirror control does not respond.

- - The windshield wipers when on interval stop in the middle of the windshield
straight up... the same thing happens when I turn them off.. they want to
stop in the middle.. they go down, and then pop back up and stop.

Any ideas of what I could do to fix any of these?
