RE: Team3S: Big Red Install
There is no on-line install because I have
not written on yet. I apologize.
I was supposed to do this for the next
kit Brad sent out (to you Steve).
Please email me privately.
When I
get the install notes complete I will have them posted on the Team3S
list or
Bob Forrest will notify everyone since he'll put it there for me.
Email
me at the address below (not the "reply to" email please) and see my
website
below for other things not written up yet (SS brake lines I think is
the only
thing there right now).

Team3S: Big Red Install
Well, I finally got myself around to getting
Brad's Big Red kit. Does
anyone know if there is an on-line install
procedure? The install seems
straight forward enough, but I just want
to make sure I put the right
bolts in the right place. Is there
anything I need to look out for
(i.e. I know I need to cut off my dust
shields), should I drain all the
old fluid out of the system first,
etc. Thanks,
Steve

takes lap

Team3S: Got Brakes??
For all you Thunderhill participants, your window to
order spare brake
pads closes this coming Friday.
I can save you each
$8 per -order- by having them shipped to my house
instead of paying thier
drop-ship fee to your house, and I'll have em at
the track Saturday morning
if that works for you.
Rotors shouldnt be a problem to get quick if you
are on that edge..but
Cryo would have to be ordered today for any good chance
of showing up on
time..in case you were wondering.
Bob has his new
pads..hes ready. This weekend we do his SS lines and tear
off his dust
shields.

sure, Rich, they'll unbolt, but if you just trim
the top edge, you still get
some benefit of sheilding dirt. I suppose
it also sheilds air flow, which
is bad. I haven't removed mine (yet).

liquidating their supply of Firehawk SZ50 tires!
Those are last year's model
(they came out with SZ50EP tires this year), but
they're still awesome
Z-rated tires that were the top-of-the-line for

this is an AWESOME deal, especially for the 225/55/16 size.

If/When you remove the dust shield you will have
to relocate the ABS sensor
which bolts to the dust shield. A twisty tie
takes care of this if you
wanna wire it to the suspension but nobody told me
that so we were stumped
at first on the dust shield step. I'll remove
mine eventually but am
keeping it on until the testing is done when we get
four VR-4s at the same
track at the same time. Then we'll know if it
helps.
And a Dremel also works well since it is only attached at the top
and bottom
of the brake area and is not a circle but about 250-degrees of a
shield.

really, really, stupid question
Ok, this is a really stupid one, but
... I have a '94 R/T TT in pretty much
stock trim, I want to know if my
wheels (which are the stock style) are
chrome or just chrome platted
aluminum? They look chrome, but the manual
states on page 22-2 for DOHC
<Turbo> Wheel type - Aluminum type. I have
also seen the same
thing on a number of FAQ pages. I wasn't certain so I
just went out and
stuck a magnet to it, and it stuck (chrome right?). God,
I feel stupid
asking this ... but; if they are chrome then I'm going to buy
some new wheels
along with the new skins I need (probably Yoko's AVS dB).
Are the chrome
wheels on option that isn't spelled out in the manual? And
how much
weight is it going to save?
BTW, my
fog light problem (old thread) is probably caused by poor
wheel
balance. I get shaking around 80 mph. That and the fact the
one tire has a
slow leak has prompted me to get some new tires and an
alignment (and
possible new wheels?).

as far as I'm aware, every stock wheel on any version

Stealth are all alloy wheels (not pure aluminum). some
are chrome
plated. that's why you'll see mention of people having to
"re-chrome"
their wheels, because the plating flakes off due to heat and
contaminants like salt, brake dust, etc.. some people polish
the
non-chrome wheels to look shiny like chrome. my first 91 VR4 had
this
done. this entails stripping off any paint and or clear coat, and
polishing the surface with varying degrees of abrasive material.

chrome plating adds a bit of
weight but I'm not really sure how much.
maybe a couple pounds per

Chrome wheels were an option on
the 93 Stealth. The concept of chrome is an
interesting one. I do not know it
would be possible to build anything out of
the element chromium. When
something appears to be chrome it is really
highly polished metal of some
type (usually steel or nickel) but the actual
chrome is put on by dipping the
item in liquid chrome. It them gets a clear
coat of something and we perceive
the item as Chrome plated. That is exactly
what it is - plated. I don't see
how this could save weight. If anything it
would add weight. Any metal's
people out there with further insight?

electroplating and coating
are two different processes.
for plating, the part to be plated is hooked to

stuck in a solution of the metal ions to be
plated.
coating is more like painting or dipping in paint.

Chrome wheels are generally
aluminum wheels (can be steel) with a chrome
layer on top. It's
actually a nickle base with a chrome top layer. It does
not add a ton
of weight as the thickness is only a few thousandths thick.
Polished
aluminum wheels are just the aluminum wheel polished to a high
luster.
They generally require up keep in the form of light polishing every
few
months unless they are clear coated. The clear coat is easily
chipped
so a lot of places do not recommend it. I am exploring
polishing my 91 TT
wheels right now and plan on just polishing them and
living with having to
touch them up every few months. You can also use
a clear powdercoat but I
am not sure if that is crystal clear or
not.

The rear brakes won't become any hotter than they

Or alternatively, trail braking doesn't use any more rear

You can
calculate for yourself (or look at the chart) what tires *will* and
*will
not* fit by looking on the Team3S website. It's in the FAQ pages,
in
the "Wheels & Tires" section, strangely enough... Look for the
article on
"Plus-Sizing".
www.Team3S.com/FAQ.htm . The
245/45's have a total diameter
of 25.68", while the 255/40's are
25.03". Since the 255/40's are a 5/8"
*smaller* diameter, they will fit
easily, but they will definitely change
your speedometer & odometer
readings. By 2.5%, to be
exact...

And now I'm saying that maybe I read that wrong, but it implies
that trail
braking uses up more of your rear brakes in relation to the front
brakes
than threshold braking, or straight line braking, or whatever kind
of
braking you do besides trail braking, and that is an INCORRECT
statement.
Yes, your OVERALL brake temps, front AND rear, may be hotter
due to trail
braking, (although that statement is arguable since in theory,
while trail
braking you can't use anywhere near the amount of braking force
you can
while braking in a straight line) but that to me seems like a
no brainer
and didn't really need a clarification.

RE: Team3S: CD for '92 VR4
I do not believe steering wheel controls work
with aftermarket radio
installations. Unless perhaps you use the same
as the head unit (Infinity
in my case) and they have wires to make use of
these.
Usually the steering wheel controls are rendered useless but that
is okay
since the new radio sometimes comes with a remote control.
In
any case, Crutchfield has some good charts to show what works where (our
cars
are not listed in the catalog though). My brother-in-law works
for
Pioneer so I push that although I have seen some great stereos at
Gatherings
from other manufacturers.

Subject: Team3S: CD for '92 VR4
I would like to install
a CD in my '92 VR4.
Would prefer a 6 or 10 CD changer but a single in dash
may be enough.
I would prefer to retain the steering wheel radio
controls.
Any recommendations?
