When I spoke to the NASA Pro Racing folks
two days ago, they said that they
will accept entrants as long as there are
openings. They sometimes even get
cancellations and will fill the slots
even at the last minute. It'll be
great to see you again, Jim!
And Dan Jett just got a new paintjob and is
probably coming too - maybe you
San Jose guys can caravan. Anyone else out
there want to join us?
Now's the time to sign up!

Subject: Team3S: Off

$23.5K)
Everyone,
Anyway, I have to let go of my baby (95 Red
VR4). It has 46000 miles and
asking price is $23,500. You guys
have been the greatest help on this list
considering my family owns 3 of
these cars (my VR4, a TT, a base Stealth) I
hate to, but I have other
financial responsibilities now, and it would be
less stressful for me to keep
the already paid 93 Base Stealth (5 sp) than
this newer/nicer/etc
VR4.
I have the car advertised on the internet at
www.autotrader.com, more
specifically
at:
http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=68148409&dealer_id=&

Pictures
of car:
http://www.cs.wayne.edu/~iraicu/personal/cars/main_personal_cars.htm
then
click on 95 Mitsubishi VR-4.
Oil Change Schedule:

of Alpine GPS and electronics:
http://sun.science.wayne.edu/~mraicu/Alpine/index.htmI
am not going to start listing all the cars attributes here.
Those
intrested can follow the links above and see what it is. For
those that
live close enough to Westland, Michigan 48185 (Detroit Metro Area)
you
and/or friends can come see the car. However, the things that are
not
mentioned in none of the adds are the following mods which were
installed
8,000 miles ago which I plan on removing:
Apexi AVC-R
Electronic Boost Controller - KIT $500.00
K&N FIPK $159.00
Autometer
Boost Gauge $60.00
Gredy EGT Gauge $163.00
Dual Pod $30.00
Shipping for
above 5 items $20.00
TOTAL $932
We are all TT enthusiasts on this
list, so I don't think anyone would mind
these mods. However, since the
car is open for sale to the entire Michigan
area and also the US through the
internet, I feel like it would be best to
take the MODS off the car and hold
on to them until I get out of medical
school and then I should be able to buy
another one of these cars and can
reinstall them. I also will not have
to explain to anyone why I need to
invest $1000 in my car, because I will
already have these toys.
I also had a 48 months/48000 miles warranty
(engine, powertrain, and bumper
to bumper with $100 deductible) that I had
paid $3086. By driving this car
14,900 miles in less than 1 year, I am
going to receive $2,124 back from the
warranty if I cancel my policy due to
its PRO RATING METHOD. However, a
transfer is possible for a $50
fee.
So, as you can see, the unmentioned things in the adds are worth
$3056 just
by themselves.
If anyone is intrested e-mail me privately
(
mraicu@wayne.edu) or call me
at
734-467-5879.
- -MIHAI RAICU-
Soon to be doctor, then maybe I'll
buy the car back from you.
The tires (Falken FK-451 245/40YR18) have 8000
miles on them (UTGQ 280 AA A,
Y-rated to 186 mph, 51 max
psi).

Subject: Team3S:
Clutch problems continue...
Hi everyone -
I've been having trouble
with my clutch - the petal pressure is
extremely high, and it has problems
disengaging. The petal feels like a
brake petal instead of soft like
the rest of my cars, for one. And, the
tranny shifts hard, occasionally
can't shift at all, and the petal
'sweet spot' occasionally moves!
I
had a few recommendations to check the booster air lines, etc.
I
checked everything, the valve is working fine, the system
holds
pressure, and the test that the service manual listed passed
fine.
So, now what do I do? I noticed recently that there is clutch
fluid
building up near the petal inside the cabin. We believe this is
due to
the excessive pressure causing some fluid to leak. Or is
it?
Any and all help is most appreciated!

Ken,
Have you tried bleeding it?
If you open the bleeder valve, and it operates
normal (fluid comes out when
pedal pressed) then you can rule out master
and booster, and the problem is
probably in the slave. If it is still hard
to press, and not much fluid
comes out, then you probably have a bad
master, or a clogged
line.

This is fairly easy to fix. You have to
turn on the AC, then spray a
"cleaning" solution in the interior and exterior
air intakes. You can buy
the cleaner at a chain auto store, or just mix
some water and a little
chlorine bleach in a spray bottle. Note - your
AC will smell like bleach
for a few days but it kills all the
mold.
Good luck,

Lysol also works very well (kills the bacteria and mold)

Team3S: car cover reccommendation needed
I have a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT
VR-4, and about a year ago had a $4000
custom paint job done to it. I
have to use a car cover since I do not have
access to a
garage.
Previously I had used a Tyvek Cover from CoverKing, but they can
not make
covers that fit very well, and my old cover is in need of
replacement.
I had purchased a cover called WeatherShield by CoverCraft,
but the seams on
the cover scratched the car costing me $100 in
repairs. When this happened
the gentleman at the body shop recommended
a cotton or cotton flannel cover
to put under the standard cover to prevent
scratches.
I had to return the weathershield cover, so I am in serious
need of a new
cover ASAP, before the paint gets damages from constant
exposure.
Also, I have a serious problem with wind in my area, and need
to allow for
this, such as extra grommets, or a wider seam on the bottom so I
could
thread a rope through, such as in sweat pants ? I realize the
covers have
grommets on the sides, but the strong winds blow the cover off
the front or
back, depending on which way the wind is blowing.
I would
greatly appreciate your help
Thank you

Find your local NASA and/or SCCA groups,
and they should know for sure.

I have taken off the windshield wipers and
those two plastic grille things
just below the windshield. This might
be where air is sucked in for the
vents since I can't see what they are
attached to. That is the logical
place but our cars always have a twist
on where things are laid out.

Thunderhill IS the Northwest - it's about 3
hours south of Portland!?! You
own one of the finest "Grand Touring"
cars ever made - take a drive, dammit!
:-) We have at least one
possible Team3S member coming from Portland, and
one coming from Richmond,
WA, and *many* driving 5 hours from the Bay Area.
The PNW 3S guys often get
together at PIR for local events. (Contact Admin
Rich Leroy, address in the
CC field above, to
get on the PNW "notification list" when local events take
place. And Julian
and Errin race up there all the time...).
If
you want to look for NASA events and schools open to all kinds of cars,
check
the NASA Pro Racing page for the PNW area, and check our Team3S FAQ
pages
(under Racing) for the "Track Events" page. We have links to all
the
Clubs and Tracks in the US that offer Driving Events and Driving Schools
at
the bottom of the page. NASA, SCCA, Porsche Club, BMWCC, etc.
There are
separate links for Pacific Northwest and Northern California
events, as well
as a searchable map for finding what tracks are close to
you...

Registration for Thunderhill
Hi Guys: I was going through the
process of registering for the hpde class
1 on july 1 when I came accross two
things I don't know what to do with.
First, the form wants to know "car
numbers" and gives three boxes to fill
out. WHAT GOES IN THESE
BOXES?
Secondly, I am a member of the BMW Car Club, which supposedly
means I do not
have to pay a seperate NASA fee, but it looks like there is no
way to avoid
it. Any ideas on what I should do would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

I'm planning to go to the
"Proformance"
(
http://www.proformanceraceschool.com/)
school later this summer - after
that you can attend their open lapping days
at SIR. I was originally
planning to go this month, but I just HAD to
buy a new car <g> and need some
acclimation time... and
time to get better brakes, or at least pads.
Also the BMW club is
having a HPDE - isn't that some kind of
plastic? :) - at PIR in mid
August. I may go to that... If anyone knows
of other local
events, please let me know (and join the PNW 3S group and let
everyone there
know!)
Also - AutoX at the Bremerton Raceway on 6/24 (
www.bscc.net). I'll
be there and some of
my friends will be there ('94 VR-4, '00 Eclipse GT, '00
Jetta 1.8T, '91 Civic
CX ...) Come join us! I went on 5/27 for the first
time (ever)
after owning my VR-4 for less than 2 weeks. I now have a much
better
feel for how the car handles (at least at lower speeds anyway) and I
can't
wait to learn more.
On the last (4th) run I intentionally dive-bombed
some corners,
apexed really late, and floored it after the apex just to see
what would
happen if I intentionally did some minor no-nos. VR-4s are
SO forgiving! I
got it tail-happy twice (and recovered) in an S-turn,
but other than that
and some plow understeer, it basically did what I told it
to do, even when I
was almost asking it to defy physics :-) They tell you to
"go slow to go
fast" (i.e. be smooth and controlled and don't try too hard),
but "going
fast to go slow" is entirely too much fun! The whole thing
was a blast - I
have pictures, but haven't put them up on the web yet.

RE: Team3S: Registration for Thunderhill
Some cars have numbers
permanently painted on, some have been assigned by
the club and owner has
bought magnetic/vinyl numbers, so they try to
identify the car by the
numbers. If you don't have them , the club should
assign them.
Worst case, they will write them on your windows with white
shoe
polish.
