Your lights should last longer than that. I use mine whenever the parking
lights or head lights are on, which is quite often, and they last 2 to 3
years. Be careful not to touch the glass surface of the bulb when you
install it. I'm not sure exactly why, but fingerprints on the bulg will
significantly shorten it's life.

Subject: Team3S: OT: I need info on lengthened wheel studs for NA Supra (MKIV)

Hello list,

Please forgive the off-topic question, but I'm in a little bit of a bind.

Can anyone give me information on purchasing aftermarket/replacement lengthened wheel studs for a 97 Supra NA? Actually, any info on lengthened wheel studs in general would be appreciated. Is this something that my local Wheel Works would be able to do? Has anyone purchased lengthened wheel studs?

Unless the info can be used by the Team 3S community, please respond privately via e-mail

Thanks in advance!

No goop on those but I love my Pirelli P-Zero.  I'm on 23,000 miles on them
so far.  Fantastic tires at about $265 each.  I live in PA so don't deal
with much rain if that helps people.  Also, these are street tires only as I
have ones for Autocross and open track thus I don't need a compromise tire.

Is there a way to have the OEM driving lights on a second gen come on with
the first position headlight position (parking lights)?  I think the first
gen can do this but the second gen can not.

And I'll be looking to put in fog lights and better driving lights this year
sometime so I'll be checking out the posts and archives for those tips
again.  With my race seat installed I am about 2" lower than normal so I
can't even see the OEM driving lights hitting the road anymore.

I do have the AVS Yokos in size 255/40-17 on the car and I'm not that happy.
Lots of wandering and hard tire. Extreme good longelivity but not that good
in wet weather. It was defintiely too cheap :(

Today I highly recommend the new S-03 or the brandnew Michelin Pilot II. For
my daily driver the Audi A8 I just got the Dunlop SP9000 again  (245/45-17)
and I still think it's one of the best tires for a daily driven car in many
weather conditions.

What wattage are you running?  I tried 100W bulbs, but they didn't last more
than a month or two.  I figured there just isn't enough cooling to keep them
from over heating.

I have since tried 70W bulbs and haven't had a problem.

Oh I am running H3 bulbs in the fog lights (had to convert the connection a
bit) and H4 Hella headlights (had to also rewire a bit).

Hope this helps,

Find your local SCCA chapter..yellow pages..etc, and find the local shops
that deal with race cars..the more focused towards SOLO1/Road Racing the
better.  They eat/breathe that kinda stuff.

You will generally upgrade to an S.A.E. size stud from metric, because
theyre more available..generally.

I had the AVS Sport and was quite pleased with them --- you sure won't
get 23,000 miles out of a set, but then who would possibly want a tire that
hard  ;-)
I only put about 3k per year on my stealth so I'm leaving the A032's on, I
live in southern Cal.so rain is not an issue with either type of tire.

I just got a set of AVS (used) from Jeff and I can't tell much difference
between them and my 'beloved' Nittos.  They tracked like hell with the
settings Jeff recommended (38F/32R), but he had them on a heavier car.  On
my Stealth NT, I tested them at various inflations and ended up at 44psi
front and 36psi rear.  They handled great, even without the alignment I'm
getting next week.  I have no idea which flavor of AVS they are, since
that's all they say on the tire wall, but they are definitely not loud, so I
guess they could be the dB variety.  I took them around a few turns at
speed, and so far, I like them a lot!  Fantastic grip, no squeal - really
nimble on tight turns.  They don't feel particularly "hard" to me - they
feel just right for performance handling.  We'll see how they fare at
Thunderhill in two weeks...

Best,

Forrest

I have started removing the CV joint to be replaced on the drivers side of
my 95 VR-4.  First, I believe it can be removed w/o taking the shaft out
that goes into the tranny.  I have gotten the axle nut off and the axle is
pushed out of the bearing.  I have removed the outer tie rod joint as well
since that ball joint has a torn boot.  How do you remove the back of the
inner tie rod which I assume is inside the rubber grease cover?  I removed
the clip on the front side, but the rear piece is hidden.  Also, what should
I look for on the inner CV to disconnect so I do not have to take the shaft
out of the tranny?

Thanks guys

You must remove the entire 2 piece shaft assembly, because if the 2 pieces
are separated they must be "pressed" back together

>How do you remove the back of the inner tie rod which I assume is inside

Unless the steering rack needs work, don't try removing the shaft, put the
clamp back on the boot and just leave the tie rod hanging as it is.

As i said, you must remove it all. The carrier bearing bracket is held on
with 2 bolts, and has a guide pin (like on a flywheel or crank pulley).
Remove the bolts, pop it away from the block, and maneuver the shaft around
until you can rotate the bracket to clear the various parts. I think if you
push it towards  (into) the tranny about 1/4", the bracket will free up. It
helps to have somebody hanging onto the wheel end while doing this.

Hope this helps,
Wayne

Bob
You could go to the Tire Rack site and look at tread patterns to see what
you've got. The AVS db has a wear rating of 320 or so, which means that
you'll get sick of looking at them before they wear out --- they have a
half-life longer than most radioactive isotopes.

Sorry I'm going to miss out on Thunderhill --- I was afixin ta go but I've got
too many other places to spend my money in the next two months.

Yeah, Jim, I had already looked at Tire Rack, but I hadn't really paid
attention to the tread design - only the size, 255/35ZR18.  And I couldn't
find them in that size (not even on the Yoko site!), so they must be a
discontinued size.  (A whole lot of Porsche and Ferrari drivers have them,
so I guess they were available until recently).  I finally went out and
looked at the tread again and matched them up with the photo on the Tire
Rack site.  They are the "AVS Intermediate", which only have a wear rating
of 160.  They are Ultra-High Performance, and stick like glue, so I guess
they'll go to the "nuclear waste dump" a bit sooner than the dBs.  Like you,
I don't drive much, so they'll still last a while unless I do too many
"Thunderhills".  (We'll miss not seeing you there).  The only time the tires
are noisy are over gravel or dirt, since the deep rain grooves pick up
*lots* of debris and pelt the hell out of the wheel wells.  Very impressive
tires, if my 2 runs on PCH near Half Moon Bay are any indication.  And very
different from the AVS dBs.  I'm glad I have these "AVS Intermediates", but
the AVS dBs are probably better for those who do mostly highway driving.

Later,

Forrest

My front spoiler stopped working a couple of months back and I'm about
to look for a replacement.

Is there any point in me stripping the old one down? Are they repairable
or should I not waste my time and just buy one?

Jim, my Pirelli P-Zero treadwear is a 140.   AND I am getting 23k miles on
them.  Imagine what I would get with those 200+ treadwear tires.  These
specs and more are listed on TireRack's webpage.  Not all tires offer this
(the Pole Position tire did not have a rating).

For comparison ... my road racing Yokohama A032 has a treadwear of 60 and
the standard Autocross tire, the Kumho Victoracer 700, has a treadwear of
50.  Those things can be dented with your finger on a warm day.

I've rebuilt these on all of our 4 cars.  The air dam can be patched and
reinforced around the bolt holes.  Replacing the air dam is expensive.  The
metal stiffening bars can be straightened and repainted.  The motor has
always bee good, even when the metal around it was severly bent in.  Use a
pry bar to bend everything back into shape around the motor.  The mechanism
can be disassembled and lubricated.

Heh, heh...  That's why I had such a hard time figuring out what they were
until I compared the tread pattern--  They're not listed in the booklet, and
not on the Yoko or TireRack websites.  But here they are:

www.Team3S.com/Images/AVS-Gewalt.jpg

They're Yoko AVS Intermediates, I believe.  255/35ZR18.
