antenna
Darren,
Cool to see that you liked your CB. I have
been interested in getting a CB
mounted into my VR4, however haven't been
able to come up with a good
looking/normal looking antenna solution.
After talking to many CB salesmen,
they all say that the little cellular
looking antenna's are worthless and
that reception is not going to be
good. Everyone says I need one of those 6
foot (?) whips with a big
base.
I am curious to know about your solution and how inconspicuous and
GOOD your
setup is. What is your predicted range (listen/talk)?
Certaily would love
to hear the truckies warn me of the radar/laser units up
ahead. Or maybe I
should just get some police/judge friends to get me
out of the tickets
(knock on wood, clear driving record so far).
Also,
where did you mount your CB unit? I had in mind a small unit ($100),
so
I may not have any space issues. The biggest issue is reception and
the
big ugly antenna.

For the trip to the East Coast Gathering I now have my
very own CB. I used
it this last weekend on a trip through Virginia
(where radar detectors are
illegal). Boy are these truckers nice folks
once they know you are on their
side. It was like some clips from
"Smokey and the Bandit" as my little
black "four wheeler" darted around them
sometimes.

Many people use
synthetics, as they seem to shift smoother than regular gear
oil. But
no sense in me repeating work that's already been done, check out
Jeff

more!

change from year to year.
To
figure out which parts are date of manufacture dependent, when you
start
CAPS, do NOT enter a VIN.
Instead click in the "Vehicle Name Code"
box and select "3000GT" or code
53H. Next click on the "Model"
box and
select "Z11A" for a front-wheel drive model, "Z16A" for a TT with
AWS, or
"Z15A" for a TT without AWS.
Next, click on the "Classification" box and
make a selection. For a Z16A
you have the following choices:
BJGFL7M -
Spyder
MJGFL2M - 94-99 Federal Emissions
MJGFL7M - 94-99 California
Emissions
MNGFL2M - 91-93 Federal Emissions
MNGFL7M - 91-93 California
Emissions
(BTW, Dodge Stealth equivalents end in a 'D' instead of an 'M',
and
Canadian cars have a '3' instead of a '2' or '7'.)
Now when
you search for a part and select it, you'll be shown the
part numbers for all
dates of manufacture ranges if there are any
differences.
For example,
for a timing belt for a Z16A I see only one replacement
part number
(MD193874) but 5 date ranges and model combinations:
(the date ranges may
overlap & I've no idea why it doesn't use the
model/classification code
entered)
9004.1 - 9205.1 All
9205.2 - 9405.3 All
9405.1 - 9505.3
BJGFL7M
9406.1 - 9505.3 MJGFL2M MJGFL7M*
9506.1 - (end)
All
Doing it this way without a VIN, or using a Stealth VIN will
cause
occasional error messages
to pop up, but they can be
ignored.
Alternatively, with a list of sample VINs you could also do
something similar.
I have a list of actual VINs for the first and last 3000GT
and Stealth
model of each year
(eg. 91 R/T TT, 95 SL Spyder, etc.) that I
could clean up and share if
there is interest.

Here is a link I found that outlines/explains
the advantages over a standard
spark plug.
http://www.denso.co.jp/PLUG/iridium-e/index.htmlI
thought I try a set in my car and haven't noticed a lot of difference, car
is
running real good. But what I was told was, that they produce a
better
(hotter) spark within the cylinder, and is good idea when you increase
the
boost.
The best place I have found to purchase them is from Mach V
Motorsports,
http://www.machv.com/3000gtcatalog.html,
which sells a set of 6 for $99.00
US.
Hope this helps,

Does anyone else think that ~$18 per plug
after shippiing is kind of high for
a piece of equipment that only costs
about $1.00 to make?? Has anyone set up
a buy anywhere? I'll try
to contact Denso and see if they'll give me a good
price. Maybe we can
get a good enough price that we con't need OE NGK
Platinum's anymore.

If it makes a hotter spark, won't it make
the combustion reaction even
faster and, with timing that hasnt been retarded
and high boost, make
the engine more likely to detonate? I mean it
obviously helps, but I
couldn't tell why from reading that site.

Unfortunately, most of what they say on
the Denso site about the Iridium
plugs is probably hype. The only way
it will create a "hotter" spark is if
the resistance of the gap is
significantly smaller. That might be possible
since with the plug
design the way it is, with a small center electrode and
protruding iridium
"nugget" on the outer electrode the spark may tend to
jump a shorter average
distance. On the other hand, the air between the gap
is going to have
much more resistance than the plug components themselves,
and that resistance
level is going to remain constant by how wide the gap
is.
I'd think
that possibly they may misfire less often, but I'm personally
skeptical about
"hotter" sparks and such.
My car had six Iridium plugs in it, now four
Iridium and two NGK (two of the
Iridium plugs either melted down, were
detonation damaged, or were struck by
something in the cylinder). I
can't tell any meaningful difference between
stock/iridium/mixed at
all.

The red dot
comes at the end of the arrow that shows when fresh air comes
in. Next to the
indicator of the compressor. I thing you can activate that
alarm if you
pull out the plug of the freon pressure sensor.
Have you been able to do that

But if the compressor goes out for

Team3S: Bedding in Pads / Rotors
Hi All,
I'll be fitting my Big
Reds (Thanks Brad) and Cyro'd Rotors this weekend and
would like your advice
as to the best way to bed everything in.
This is what I thought I should
do:
1. BBQ the new pads for about 1/2 hr and let them
cool slowly.
2. Take the car out with the new pads and
brake gently from about 70 MPH
down to about 30 MPH about 10 times allowing
the discs to cool in between.
3. Do a couple of hard
stops from about 70 MPH and then take the car home
using the brakes as little
as possible on the way and let them cool
overnight.
Is this correct or
am I way off the mark?
Many thanks,
