Team3S: New Member & New Motor
Hello Team3s:
My rebuild is
finally complete on a 92 Stealth TT. I have the GT Pro Stage
IV with
Swain Tech. ceramic coated pistons, ARC2, 720s, and GT Pro 357
Magnum turbos
(plus all the typical mods). As soon as I get the ARC dialed
in, I will
post a boost increments of 1 psi and when I encounter knock on
pump
gas(92). I'm interested if the ceramic coated pistons actually help
to
deter knock. So far I have 1000 miles on the rebuilt motor.
I'm very
grateful to have found this list because I found the discussion on
TPS
voltage and mine was .55 (thanks RG). I look forward to
contributing.

trickle

Haven't had any problems like that with my Odyssey
battery. Starts every
time, even if left sitting for a few weeks even
with alarm on and such.
Maybe your battery is defective, or something on your
car is drawing extra
juice. ???

So are you saying that if I get the Odyssey that it
won't hold a charge for
one week in the winter? If so then I don't want
it. Sure it is small and
light but at mid-400s CCA it doesn't seem like
enough to turn it over in the
winter. For that security I would
sacrifice the weight and size of the 875

Can
anyone give some good evidence here? Matt? Anyone in
cold-weather

Darren and all,
When u get
the Odysessy (Predator) battery, be sure to also get a trickle
charger from a
local auto store. Unless you start the car every other day,
the battery will
die. This happens more frequently when the weather is cold
out. Trickle
charger costs only $25.

Rich,
I will be installing an
Optima Red Top battery soon. I hear those are
smaller since the stock
battery tie-down cable does not reach the smaller
battery. It isn't
half-size but it is smaller. I would vote for the
"racing" battery
(ones without the acid sloshing around and can be mounted
in any orientation
- even upside down) since it is safer in the long run.
The Optima Red Top
(they also have yellow top ones) have enough oomph for
several years of
use. I did a search and here are the places in Iowa for
you (might want
to search the neighboring states too) or just order and have
it
shipped.

The OEM battery in my 94 VR4 finally died this winter. It won't hold
a
charge any longer.
Curt Gendron wants me install a half-size battery
(from Walmart), so we'll
have room for the water injection tank that will be
going in one of these
days. I'll probably do that unless I can find a way to
mount a battery in
the back.
My question to the group is:
Has
anyone successfully mounted a battery in the rear? Is there any short
battery
that can fit back there in the plastic trays on either side of the
spare tire
and still fit under the cardboard/carpet cover? Got a product
name and model
number?
I suppose I could mount the battery on the floor behind the
passenger seat,
but that restricts movement of the seat.
Any thoughts,
anyone?

also about 480 CCA (about same as stock), weighs only **13.5**
lbs, and is
only about 7"L x 3.5"W x 6"H (I don't have exact
measurements with me). It
costs $155. I ordered one last week and
will mount it in the stock location
to save the trouble of moving a
battery to the rear. I am hoping to find
someone to mill nice looking
aluminum hold-down bars to attach it to the old
battery tray or maybe
a new battery tray.
7x3.5x6 should leave plenty
of room for more stuff in the old battery
space and save over 30 lbs of
weight! :)

I'd recommend the
Odyssey racing battery over the Optima products
hands-down for space saving
applications. I have the PC925 which is
470 cold cranking amps.
It is 6.5" wide, 7" long, and only 5" high.
Not only that, but the Optima
weighs 38 pounds and the Odyssey (if I
remember correctly) is 26
pounds.
Haven't had any problems with mine, starts the car every time
(even
in cold temps it isn't a problem), enough power to raise/lower
the
convertible top with the motor off, etc.
$160
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=534&prmenbr=76&path=76%202379%202382%202680
Gel-cell
batteries are still acid inside, so if you hit something
hard
enough to
break it open you are still going to get acid strewn about.
The Odyssey
is a dry-cell variant.
Not sure if 5" tall is short enough to fit in the
rear storage bins -
I doubt it. I don't think you'll find many
batteries shorter than 5"
tall though.

The stock battery is big, but doesn't have huge CCA numbers -
probably
400-500 CCA.

I don't run the car on a daily basis in the cold or anything
like that, but
last December after having it sit for a few weeks I fired it
up to go to
Mark Wendlandt's place to swap in an ACT clutch on the car.
It was about 5
degrees the morning I drove up there, and the battery worked
fine starting
the car.
If for some reason a person wanted a REALLY
small battery, I wonder if you
could get away with some of the higher-end
motorcycle batteries, at least in
a warm-weather application.

Sorry, they are
in the process of moving to a new location, but I spoke with
Kyle at CTC
yesterday (they are local to me) and they are still going
forward with the
group buy. For everyone who has been contacted, their
orders will
probably ship late this week, after they get all the pads boxed

transferred,
but if necessary, you can reach them at

Le
Hir,
Thanks, that was excellent information you provided.
I called Casey
Rayman this morning as soon as I got your message. Here
is his
story" CTC is moving locations and so everything is
in
transition. Mr. Rayman claims that he has received the brake pads,
an
that they will ship this week. There are hundreds of them, and
they
need to be repackaged.
I just spoke with a manager at
Porterfield. They did indeed ship a
large quantity of brake pads to CTC
motorsports. They were shipped COD,
via UPS, "about 4 days
ago".
I am inclined to believe that it was just poor judgment on the part
of
CTC not to inform us that they would be moving, and that there is
not
fraud here. I do, however, expect to receive the parts in a
timely
manner, or I will dispute the charges.
I just received a
telephone message from Kyle. I think everythink is okay
here. I
won' be completely comfortable with this until I receive the parts.
Best
Regards,
John

Like John shows in his previous
post, Casey's domain info is below for
all to see, including his email,
etc. Having to move is a serious PITA,
so it's probably why he hasn't
replied to the previous posts - he's a
Team3S member, too. It's
unlikely that someone planning a scam is going
to join a list and give out
personal information (which one of us Admins
verifies for EVERY prospective

When he touches base again, I'm sure
he'll explain the delays to all of

when Murphy's Law kicks

Possible? Remotely.
Practical? No.
You'd have to
do one incredible hack job on the electrical harness to even
get the computer
hardware in place. Figure in the control module inside the
car, the
fluid pump in the engine bay, as well as all the other misc sensors
and
relays, and you have a nightmare on your hands. Also figure that a new
OEM
ABS pump runs $2500 and the control computer is in a similar
price
range. Even used it won't be cheap. I just can't see it being
that
worthwhile. If it makes you feel any better, I don't have ABS on
my 91
Stealth ES. I did however bolt on the brakes from a 92 R/T
Turbo. IMHO,
that improved my stopping power more than any ABS system
would. Of course,
I'm somewhat biased against ABS :) Save your
money and go with some form of
Big Brake upgrade. In addition to the
turbo brakes I mentioned, many of the
aftermarket kits for the Mitsubishi
Eclipse Turbo are direct bolt-ons for
the non-turbo 3/S.
As far as
traction control goes, I'm not aware of it ever being an option on
the
3/S. I've seen aftermarket systems, but without knowing how they
work,
I can't really comment on them. Perhaps someone else has
experience with
those packages?
Good luck with your
upgrades.

Re: Team3S: ABS/TCL Question
There's a company in the UK that do a
universal traction control system.
I had their email address and a review in
a magazine on 2 cars that was very
positive.
Unfortunately I've also had
about 3 pc's in various states since then and don't
have the web address. The
magazine was one of the silly tuning ones like Max
Power or some rubbish. I
only bought it for the article on the traction control
as I had a Japanese
import MR2 Turbo at the time and was interested in anything
that would help
me in the wet.
I'll do a search and see if I can find
anything.

That's what the Archive Pages are for... And the Search

search on the following (use the quotes):
"glove

Or you can start on the

91 twin turbo stealth to part out. And I wanted the opinions of anyone who
has done this on how much I could get for it. The dealer is asking $2800
for it.
20 miles from my house is a 1991 twin turbo stealth that rear
ended an explorer and went under the bumper.
the hood and fenders are
destroyed but the engine still runs. The car has 80,000 miles on

I want it for the transmission and I will part out everthing else, if

Omigawd, what a fabulous
open track car! If I didn't have one already, I'd
buy that sucker in a
New York minute. Then I'd get in on the group hood buy
and order a plastic
front end kit from one of the body companies (Erubi?).
With only 80K, it's
just barely broke in.
Here's what I'd do: remove the tranny, stick it in
your street car, and
then ship your broken tranny off somewhere to be
repaired. While it's out,
fix the bodywork as described above. Gut it like
Geoff did out in
California, and take out 1,000 lb. Sell the stereo, interior
and other
parts on E-bay or to the group here. Install an Autopower roll
bar ($500)
and racing seats ($500). Install Big Red brakes ($1300) and
Ground Control
suspension ($400). With the weight off and all this good
stuff, you'd be a
terror on the tracks even with a stock motor.
Where
are you, anyway? Anywhere near Iowa?

What does "SOON"
mean? I think people who have purchased the hood deserve
to know a
date. A slight "Hiccup" is a VAST understatement. They have
been
promised for MONTHS now. I do not want to cause a flame war, and
that is
not the reason for this email. I want to know when they are
going to be
out. Dynamic Racing has told me, they also can not get a
response from
Brian. So, all the places selling the hoods for GT Pro,
now look bad cause
they can not tell their customers anything due to GT Pro
not telling them
anything. I have always been behind Brian and GT Pro
but at some point it
becomes ridiculous and absurd. Sorry if anyone is
offended, but a bit
frustrated.

Re: Team3S: Battery and GT PRO Carbon Fiber Hood
What does "SOON"
mean? I think people who have purchased the hood deserve
to know a
date. A slight "Hiccup" is a VAST understatement. They have
been
promised for MONTHS now. I do not want to cause a flame war, and
that is
not the reason for this email. I want to know when they are
going to be
out. Dynamic Racing has told me, they also can not get a
response from
Brian. So, all the places selling the hoods for GT Pro,
now look bad cause
they can not tell their customers anything due to GT Pro
not telling them
anything. I have always been behind Brian and GT Pro
but at some point it
becomes ridiculous and absurd. Sorry if anyone is
offended, but a bit
frustrated.
