Team3S: Tensioner questions/ comments
I am looking into a timing belt
tensioner as I think mine might be bad (lots of slack on cams and waterpump). I
got the following number (MD319040) off of
http://www.team3s.com/60k.htm
"Stealth/3000GT 60K Service (DOHC)"
and called my local dealer about it.
In the above page, it shows "Timing Belt Tensioner $ 27.27" When I called the
dealer, I was given a quote of about $94 from which I managed to get 20% off of.
So that would put me at ~$75. Then, on Andrews Caples page
http://www.sound.net/~fatbiker/FAQ.HTM"3SI
Frequently Asked Questions For Dummies"
I find
"MD319040 tensioner,
timing belt $62.62 "
and
"MD140071 pulley, timing belt tensioner
$22.26"
So, my question is this: I want MD319040, right? And it should
run about $65-90, right?
I'm emailing Bob directly as the "Stealth/3000GT
60K Service (DOHC)"page is an excellent resource, but the above portion is
confusing.
Also, I'm the fellow who emailed "Engine questions" a few days
back. No one answered :-(.
If there's something about the manner in which I'm
posting or the length of what I'm saying which is turning people off, please
email me privately and let me know. I don't post very often and might be
breaking some rules of "Netiquette" and not know
it.
Thanks!
Ron

Team3S: Tensioner questions/ comments
The prices (like it says on our 60k
page) were submitted by JackT (note
his new email,
xwing@wi.rr.com ), so I guess he could
explain, if
necessary; but he doesn't usually make errors... I don't
know who the
other guy is, since he's not a Team3S member. I'm sure the
prices have
changed a bit, since we put up the page. I dug out JT's
original post
to the list from a year ago, with the same info:

Timing Belt Change Cost
Had to arrange for the "60K timing belt change" for a
friend, so here
goes...
Parts cost:
timing belt 145.55; AC belt
27.70; Pwr steering belt 14.20; Waterpump
98.17;
Timing belt
tensioner 27.27; Idler pulley 26.20;
Total
$339.09 minus 25% discount (it's good to be the king :)
=
$254.32
(add your own taxes) (I think I covered
all...)
Dealership Labor cost:
5.5 hours @ $68/hour = $374
Total:
$628.32
"On the Side" Mitsu dealer worker will do job labor for $225,
so:
Total: $479.32 (plus tax on the parts)
As to your
other question about netiquette - nothing wrong with your
post, but you stand
a better chance of someone responding by breaking up
your question into
parts, with the subject line of each reflecting the
issue inside... And
send them all at the same time, so folks can read
them as a continuum of
related issues.
Best,
Forrest

Team3S: SL owners please help
Dear SL owners,
I'm afraid I damaged
my suspension on a nasty bump, but I'm not sure
if it's the front or the
rear. Could any of you SL owners please take
a minute of your time and
measure the distance from the ground to the
highest point of the chassis
wheel clearing above the center of the
wheel on all four wheels when parking
on a really flat piece of ground?
Should the distance be identical on all
four wheels, or should the
front be slightly higher?
Thanks in
advance, and best wishes,
Zsolt Kovacs
