Team3S: Here's what's up with GAB shocks/struts:
Hi
Barry,
When I discussed my strut problem with the east coast
sales rep. for KYB,
he told me that the struts/shocks I owned were the only
ones which they sold
for my car. He made no mention of GAB
shocks.
In addition, when I spoke to a rep. at Wings West, who used to be one
of the
only GAB distributers on the west coast, he made no mention of the
fact that
KYB makes GAB.
In addition, if KYB makes GAB, then why are GAB
only available through
import from Japan?
I, too, had been under the
impression that KYB did make GAB, but I am pretty
certain that they do
not.
If KYB makes GAB, then it is only in the most "technical"
sense. That is,
KYB may own GAB, or GAB has agreed to produce
shocks/struts in Japan and
market them under a KYB label (it certainly is
not the other way around).

Dennis

This is not surprising. He may simply want to sell
GABs. There may be a
higher marging involved. He also (perhaps
obviously) may well have not
known. Also, GABs were sometimes hard to
track down even when the
distributor was in full operation.

Many or most of these people do
not know or simply do not want to sell the
lower line. There are also
economic factors to consider. GAB are sold as
premium items. KYB
is sold as an economy item. In some cases they may well
be nearly if
not the same piece, although this is not the case with the VR4
GAB struts vs
the KYB offering. The GABs are far superior in
this
application.
> In addition, if KYB makes GAB, then why are GAB

Marketting and
economics most likely. GAB is GAB and AFIK a Japanese
company.
KYB is KYB -- Korean based I believe.

impression that KYB did make GAB, but

not.
This should be (un?)common knowledge actually. As a case in
point, recall
last year when GAB threatened to sue KYB for fabricating and
selling a GAB
design. Supposedly the patent ran out on a particular GAB
design. KYB
decided they would manufacture this design and sell it
themselves under
their own name at a considerably lower price than GAB.
GAB eventually
forced KYB to cease production and distribution, but only
after the first
run(s) were on the market.

That is why
I stated "makes" and not "owns". There are only literally a
few
fabrication facilities throughout the world for struts and shocks.
KYB
makes OE struts and shocks for a huge number of resellers, GAB being one
of
them. KYB fabricates at least some of the GAB lineup, but does not
own GAB.

that it could be bad
wires or plugs making the engine stutter under load and
I am mis-reading
it as clutch slip. Is this possible, or do I need to

-
-----------------snip------------
Hey, Travis,
To eliminate
whether or not your clutch is slipping, do this simple
test:
With the
E-brake on, put the car in 2nd gear at idle, and s-l-o-w-l-y
let out the
clutch pedal...
If the car stalls, the clutch is fine.
If the car
sort of "jumps" a few times and then dies, the plate is
warped.
If the
car keeps going with the clutch out fully, the clutch is
slipping, and needs
'serious' adjustment or
replacement.
Best,
Forrest

Not that complicated, easier than
others but it is now made of two devices,
control and logical unit. The
harness needs some connections to the ECU
harness, not a lot but more than
the standard DSBC.

First remove the speed governor. I once heard of a relatively
easy mod on
that but cannot remember where it was. You may try GTO UK on that
topic. The
iD has an AUTO and manual mode (later like the DSBC) . The first
sets
itselfs up upon the manual settings and adjusts them.

No problem, I should have them
pretty soon on stock.

Are you
prepared to pay more than for every other boost controller ... ok !
But, not
really NOW.
> Any advice appreciated.
Yes, get the normal Blitz
DSBC as the iD does look odd alone and only with
the Power Meter the combo is
complete ! Another £££ issue !

The reduce 'compliance' in
the braking system.
Compliance is the stretch in the lines and seals that
happens when braking
pressure is applied.
The less the system
complies..the more responsive the brakes feel..makeing
YOU feel more
connected to them. (Less squishy feeling).

Or just change pad material
to Carbon composition such as Porterfield R4S to
increase the
temps.
Resurfacing the rotors and bedding the pads is also required.

To remove
the speed limiter on Jap spec cars, snip the speed sensor wire at
the ECU, I
think it's pin 66, at least for 1st gen. Mine's a '93, nothing
else is
effected. Nothing worse than hitting the speed limiter when
racing
Skylines.

I was wondering if anyone could
tell me the best place to order Eibach
springs for our cars I have a '94
base 3000 GT and I find so many different
prices. I was just wondering who
had the best price and the most reliable
service. Also has anyone ever
looked into aftermarket ignition systems. I
see them talked about all
the time with other imports would they even be
worth it for ours?
Thanks for your help!

CarParts has a decent price on the Eibach Pro kit
(#2813.140) for the base
3000GT. With my 15% off coupon, they'd be
$226 plus shipping. I always
have some kind of discounts for
CarParts. My discounts are at:

Has anyone replaced the window trim strip along the door- window
interface
on a TT? If so, is it an involved undertaking or a more or
less self
explanatory easy replacement?

Team3S: Window Trim
I've done this. You need to remove the door panel
(not difficult),
remove the old strip,
which is held on by some clips and
a few staples, and just do the
reverse with the new
strip. The hardest
part is coughing up the $30 a strip to a dealer.
