Hi Martin,

Curious minds want to know,  does the odometer not
work also??  2. does the rest of the car function
normally??

3. Can one have a functional spedo and not have the
odometer work??

I can't help you with the fix, but the manual will
usually help diagnose.

Be of good cheer,
John

Basically all stock wastgates (and the aftermarket TD04-based turbos
too) for all 3S model years open completely at the same pressure -
about 6 to 7 psi. It is the BC solenoid, or other device or situation
(such as a hose leak or constriction), that allows higher boost than
6 to 7 psi to develop in the plenum.

Unless I am mistaken I am pretty sure the 94+ models wastegate
actuates at 12 psi. The earlier models were set to hold to about 8
psi. But absolutely a electronic boost controller will even out, and
raise the pressure that you can hold.

The TT cars have electric speedometers.  Check the electrical connector that
attaches to the speedometer gear housing.  It is located on (top of) the
transmission next to the clutch slave cylinder inbetween the engine block and
the firewall.  You need to remove the battery and windshield washer bottle to
get to it.  That at least is a place to start...

Good luck,
Ken

I highly recommend the Apexi SAVC-R.  It has many features not found in other
controllers:
a) ability to select different boost settings for different RPM bands
b) gear based learning and gear specific adjustments
c) utilizes a relative pressure sensor to update/learn with atmospheric or
elevation changes
d) extensive monitoring capabilities included graph recordings, peak holds, etc.
The SAVC-R requires a more involved installation (you have to tap into ECU
wires) and can also be tricky to tune correctly.  I've used this for over a year
and it works great.  It can be a "set and forget" but the tweaker will love
playing with all the features.

The Blitz DSBC is extremely easy to install.  Many folks use this and report
great results.  You do have to tweak the settings though for atmopheric or
elevation changes.

I highy recommend the new iD-DSBC from Blitz. It is not yet available on a
large volume but it has great features from the S-AVC-R and the great
reaction of the DSBC. It comes in half width DIN and can be installed with
the new iD-Power Meter.

The only problem with the Apexi is that it doesn't have any overboost
limiter function and setting boost to a specific level doesn't mean that it
also can reach this level or overruns it. When it has learned (the duty
cycle of the solenoid) then it works ok.

The Blitz is small and easy as Ken already said. The four settings are used
to change them whenever needed as in cold weather the car will get more
boost sooner so Ratio should be cranked down then. But the result is to
have always the best performance.

When the new Blitz is available I'm sure some DSBCs will be available 2nd
hand (mine for sure, hehe)

 Group,

I had the trouble-shooting done for what I thought were blown turbos.  Good news is they're not blown.  Not so good news is that I need to have the Blow-off valve, Wastegate Actuator (left side leaking), and all vacuum lines replaced (old, cracked, possible leaks).

All this to the tune of $700 parts/labor (a lot better than the dealership rates).  Since he's doing this work, I'm taking suggestions on what else should I have him do.

A friend made this page, after I had sent the same information to the
list. You said you were new, so maybe you didn't get it?

http://www.ecanfix.com/~amit/

Just a list of all the places I have found to leak on our cars. Your
leak is probably mainly at the BOV, if its the stock one. They are
designed not to hold boost well, so the cars never "overboost".
(that's my opinion, another opinion I and others have, is a plastic
bov is CHEAP AS HELL :)

Also, stock turbos won't hold more than about 12psi at the top of the
rpm range.. possibly less at the top of 3rd or higher. Boost response
will increase with an aftermarket BOV, the 1g DSM one is a no brainer
(if you have the flange), and the Apex super-sequential (can be blown
to atmosphere for that "cool sound") works well too as do many others,
that people use.

Oh, a manual, or electronic boost controller will help with boost
response even more. EVEN if you just run stock boost, boost will build
faster (manual, only if it is of ball and spring design).

http://www.turbologic.com/joepmbc/ is a good cheap unit, works well
even on some 11 second cars. Electronic ones work differently, but are
also good, and cockpit adjustable (more $$$)

Hi all,
I'm new to this list, and new to 3S cars, I have a lot of general
turbo
performance experience, but no specific experience with 3S's, so I
have a 3S
question I really need some help with that I hope you guys can answer.

I have a '97 vr-4 that I just got around to installing an accurate
electronic
boost gauge on (greddy 60mm w/peak hold and warning - very nice
product I
recommend it), and I'm a little confused by what I'm seeing.  In stock
form
(other than an SMF), when I mash the throttle to the floor, I get a
boost
spike to about .95bar (~13.5psi), then it rapidly drops to between .6
bar and
.75 bar (8.5 - 10.6 psi), depending what gear I'm in, 1st and 2nd gear
drops

I am currently pursuing my only lead to acquire the specification of the '94-'95
ECU diagnostic port protocol.  I am waiting to hear back from my old boss who
still has the California Air Resources Board as a customer.

If the protocol can be obtained, we can approach Todd Day to see if he is
interested in working on a new or updated datalogger.  Otherwise, several other
folks on the list are capable of creating a Windows based software analyzer from
scratch.

Keep your fingers crossed...

Bought a '92 Stealth R/T TT last weekend, found the Team 3S site shortly
thereafter. I've searched the site for the answer to my question, but didn't

well enough to tell where the bolt is. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Read through the write-up for the 60K service in the Team3S FAQ
pages.  Near the end is a picture and verbiage explaining the
re-installation of the A/C tensioner.  That should show what
you need to know.
