1st gen and 2nd gen have different size rotors as far as I know.

Hi Everyone,

I was looking at the ebay site to see what people our selling for the 3000
gt and I went to see a feedback profile about about a person and I came
across an item he was selling. It was homemade white face gauges for cars.
Has anybody ever done this or heard about this? the link is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=432208593

It seems very easy, I was thinking of just taking them off of my car and
scanning them. Then used photo paper to print it out. The only thing is how
will the light come thur it when driving at night? Any idea's?
Thanks Guys for any info or any idea's on doing this project,

Yes, some of us have already done this (called overlays). But first, taking
them out/in is a PITA and then what do you do with the different
temperatures, humidity and, and. Paper is just not that resistant to our

You don't think crossdrilling helps cooling?  Even if you don't consider
improved convection cooling through the holes in each vent, you still have
more surface area for radiative cooling from the rotor.

What about the claims of better "bite" of the pads with crossdrilling?

on a '97 SL the black plastic housing around the light snaps off. if you
feel around with your fingers behind it you'll feel the clips. doesn't
really feel like it'll come off but it does. i pulled mine outwards and
angled towards the center of the car. after that there's several screws that
hold the rest of the light together. my bulbs were H3. I reccemond the APC's

Fog light design on the VR4 changed from '93 to '94 from a cube to a
cylinder.  On my '93, you have to take off the air dam and can remove the
fog light assembly with three bolts.  I just replaced one unit to the tune
of $250 for the part.  Now I tape mine up at the track.  Sorry, I didn't pay
attention to how to replace the lamp inside.

Maybe it's different with Stealth wheels.. but when I
tried to put on a 1st gen VR4 wheel on the '94+
rotors, it wouldnt go on at all.. the gating item was
the inside wheel diameter.. not the spokes..

The 2nd gen (or Spyder) wheels did fit.

Hey Jim, you going to the SD gathering?  Whould love

Ask Hans Ertl on 3si.org.  He has done it already for all the gauges.

Subject: Team3S: 91,92 Rotors

My 92 rotors are 296mm (just measured them).  There is little to no
additional room for larger rotors or calipers.  Assuming I upgrade my
wheels, are there any other limitations that anyone else is aware of that
prevent me from upgrading to larger rotors and calipers?  Someone mentioned
that the rotor/wheel hole pattern is different also, but this is hard to
confirm.  Is there any reason to think the caliper mounts are different?  Is
there any relief for those of us still driving the old dogs?

There is no difference in the mounting of the calipers or rotors or wheels
between the 1st and 2nd generation cars.

OK, hopefully this will put the 1st - 2nd gen rotor issue to bed. These
are my sheet from Porterfield since I wanted to upgrade to the 2nd gen
rotors. My rotors dimensions are:

OD-296mm Height-45.2mm Nominal thickness-30mm Min Thk-28.4 mm
Hub Hole-68.8 mm # mount holes-5 Hole or stud size-0.500 bolt circle-
114.3 mm

93+ front rotor specs
OD-314 mm Height-45.6mm Nominal thickness-30mm Min Thk-28.4mm
Hub Hole-68.8mm mount holes-5 Hole or stud size-0.49 Bolt circle-
108.01mm

Bolt patterns are the same
Hub diameter is the same
Caliper mounting point is the same.

Different on the later cars:
Rotor larger in diameter
Caliper has longer mounting points to accommodate the larger rotor.

As for wheels, you are probably correct, you really need to get at least the
mitsubishi stock 17" wheels for the clearance.
