I agree. I usta drive rally cars like that. Pro Rally cars rarely point
straight ahead, yet they go like hell. Even the AWD cars are sideways most
of the time. I find it much easier to drive a car like that, because you
can steer it with the gas, brakes and steering wheel all at the same time.
If you get into a corner too hot, you just let it slew around a little more
to scrub off speed. Would that we could do that on pavement with our VR4s.

Yeah, I can do that too -- especially in 2nd gear under hard acceleration.
Like you said, that's power oversteer. That's not quite the same as getting
it tail happy in a 100 mph sweeper whilst flat in 3rd gear. I've never been
able to do that.  Well, let me modify that to say I never TRIED to get the
tail out at those kinda speeds. I think I've slid (slud?) the car twice at
high rates of speed with the help of a little gravel on the track and it
was downright exciting. But I get the feeling that tail-out is not the fast
way through with our cars. Our sweet spot seems to be somewhere between
neutral and understeer.  We need more cars on the track at the same time,
so we can compare notes. I have NEVER run with another VR4 at the same track.

I think I am going to buy a Eagle Talon AWD tomorrow, if it looks OK on the
lift. Then, maybe it'll be back to pro rallying for me in the wintertime. I
miss driving sideways at 80 mph through the woods. Besides, I gotta have
something to do between November and April.

What about the Arc-2GP setup? Anyone had any admissions problems.
Particularly in CA?

Hi George,

Sorry, no the '94 is larger dia so the '92 caliper
won't be 'long' enough and the '92 dust shield is too
small for the '94+.  The hoses will probably be okay.

I still use the stock rear rotors.  Do you live near
PGH?

Be of good cheer,
John

I have improved pre-cats, ARC2-GP, and ND 550s, but have not had to
go through the CO emissions test yet. I plan to keep this setup (that
is not revert back to stock injectors and MAS) and see what happens.
I'll let you know next summer. Except for the blatant replacement of
the MAS, which I doubt anybody will recognize, I don't see why I
can't adjust the A/F to be lean enough to be passable.

I have gutted pre-cats and stock cat, VPC/GCC with HKS Purple 550's. I had
no problems with emissions. I did not drive the car like maniac before the
test to get the cat super hot or anything. As a matter of fact, my emission
values were almost identical to stock setup. I can look up the numbers if
anybody wants.

One more thing. I did not remove the 550cc chip before the test. All my
emission testing are done in GA.

I live in California and would assume the problem would be the lack of
CARB certification on the ARC2 [ If they notice it ]. Being all wheel drive
they don't put it on the dyno, but instead use the old tail pipe sniffer.
As Jeff said ---- I'm sure you could get it to pass if they don't recognize
the MAS.
Let us know the results as others of us will have the same problem.

The steering on my baby feels very loose. Especially over uneven roads. Also
at times it just likes to pull left or right while at highway speeds. AND
the torque steer is pissing me off. If I gun it I have to hold on for dear
life. Is this normal?

Hello all,

Thanks for all the help in the past... now..
I have been told that both front ball joints are bad.  Mitsu wants
$200/each including the control arm, but my tech said they might be
available as 'press-ins.'  I'm not a chassis guy, so I don't know what
that means, but can I get them?  Are there better ones available?
Please help!
Thank you so much!

Hello Ken,
$200 is not a bad price, my local dealership wanted $425 per
side for my 91 ES I ordered them both used off a wrecked car with 50,000
miles for $150 per side from a local junk yard! I tried to find some
where to press mine out and every place I went told me it wasn't
possible with our cars.
