The problem is that a new gasket can not
be purchased
seperately, only with the complete Y-pipe ($$$).
If
anyone has another source then there are a few people
that would love
to hear about it :)

Jegs doesn't sell the right size.
T-Bolt clamps are not like regular worm
clamps; they must be the right size
or they won't fit right. I'd recommend
contacting www.ctcmotorsports.com
I bought
some special t-bolts from them that have high tension springs
around the
shaft the nut spins on to keep constant pressure on the clamp,
regardless of
temperature variations. It also makes them impossible to
overtighten
(unless you squish the spring down all the way but then you're
missing the
point).
I believe the size we need is 2.75"

RE: Team3S: Strut Covers, Wires, Remote Start
Clifford provides a way of
fitting their remote start feature to a manual.
It involves a routine to be
carried out prior to leaving the car, forcing
the user to make the car safe
i.e. placing it in neutral. If this sequence
is not followed, the remote
start will not work. I believe it is simple to
rig a relay for most remote
start systems to provide the same. My own
companies system uses a hand-brake
interlock and a gear interlock to do the
same thing. Forward to me the
details of the system you are looking at and I
will see if I can produce a
diagram for you.
I strongly suggest that if you use a remote start, that
you also fit a hood
(bonnet) lock as it is very easy to "pop" the hood from
outside the car (I
can open any Stealth or 3KGT in 12 secs and silence the
alarm in 2), open
the doors via the exposed fuse box and enter the car and
drive off, takes
about 45 secs. A thief watching say in a car park over a few
days will learn
the pattern for you remote starting the car, say 10 mins
before you leave
the office, watch till the car starts and he is off in less
than 60 secs,
and the alarm (any alarm) can be bypassed from under the hood,
the
immobiliser is already bypassed and the engine heated up. An electronic
hood
lock costs about £85 (£30 fitting or DIY) is completely automatic and
can
not be "got around" unless the car is in a garage equipped with a ramp
and a
lot of time. (The system I fitted to my 3KGT TT took 25 mins to fit
and
takes about 1h 30 mins to get around, and we know what we are doing. I
also
fitted the same lock to the trunk release). You can fit such a lock
in
around an hour or less, one bracket to screw in place, three
electrical
connections to make and the bowden cable to cut. If anyone wants
details
drop me a
line.

You can, by bypassing the
car starter's "Park" switch so it always thinks
the car is in park.
This is very dangerous though if someone uses your car
and puts it in gear
when parking (the normal thing to do) or if you forget
and leave it in gear
yourself. If the car successfully starts, it could go
runaway on
you.

Junkyard?
Are the throttle body sizes the same on the DOHC non-turbos and
the
turbos? How about one of the aftermarket intercooler pipe
junctions
sleeves? Make one out of a bicycle inner tube? Thick
rubber bands? I
dunno... Time to get creative if they are hard to
come by.

Hey Roger:
How are you? I hope all is

It's been a very exciting summer for me, spending way-hey too much

it's true potential. Gotta love these cars.
I got your

> Forget
the "mod" on an NA car !
Here's my questions:
1.) Why a closed
one? I thought part of this idea was to get the oil
vapor out of the
intake also, no?
2.) Yes, the unit is plastic, and way too big. I
plan to actually modify
the unit by cutting out and removing 2/3 of the huge
bottle. But, seeing
as how half of the components under the hood are
plastic, I think it will
be ok. I plan to mount it near the passenger
side fuse box and HKS Dual
Mega Flow air intake -- if I can find some
room!
3.) Won't the pressure inside the crankcase also push open the PCV
valve?
If I understand the workings, the pressure from the intake can
pull open
the PCV valve. But, it also appears, as with your fill tube
problem, it
can work the other way?
Thanks,
SJ

An alternative to a new factory or
aftermarket y-pipe is to just replace the
hose. Get a 3" long by 2.75"
inside diameter silicon hose and two hose clamps.
The T-bolt clamps would be
the best, but I use the regular worm screw type for
15 psi. Finding the
hose will be a challange. Try local shops that work with
turbos.
Otherwise try http://www.turbocharged.com/main.htm,
catologs,
turbochargers and accessories, silicon connectors. They list
1/8" wall and 1/4"
wall silicon hose. When I bought my car 2 years ago,
it had 1/8" already
installed, and hasn't been any problem.
Good
luck,
Ken

RE: Team3S: FIPK ?
Remember that step 10 (removing the bolts from the
stock air filter box)
takes about two hours with a Dremmel tool instead of
two minutes. There was
a picture circulated before, but if they are
stuck in there (like mine were)
then it will be rough to get out.
Enjoy. We all have gone through that
stage with the FIPK upgrade I
hear.
I also have pictures of the install as I'm sure others have them
and Jeff
probably has a link on his Garage page. Cheers.
