Well after listening to it a bit more whirring would have to be the best
word to describe it. It's almost like a very high-pitched cricket on speed,
if you can imagine that ;) It does seem to be coming from the engine
compartment and it's not speed or heat related...So I'm guessing it's
boost/turbos. Do you guys have this noise when cruising? Is it normal???
Thanks!

Subject: Team3S: Another New Clutch Problem ??

I have no idea what the problem is or if it is in any way related to the
clutch being replaced.  When I drove my car today I noticed that it feels
like shit.  The clutch feels great, but the handling of my car feels
really bad.  I feel every little revit in the road and it makes my car
feel like it is falling apart.  My steering wheel seems all loose too.
Before I brought it in to get the clutch fixed the handling and the
steering wheel felt really tight and like a rock.  Now a pebble on the
road makesit feel like it will rock loose.

Do you know if any of the things the guy had to do to replace the clutch
could have caused this problem?  If they are unrelated do you know what
is wrong and what needs to be replaced along with how it could have
happened?  Thanks so much!!

Have you had the alignment taken care of yet?  Removal of the tranny will
throw the front out of alignment, take care of it before your tires are shot!

Jason,

Can you explain why such a thing would happen?

Your assumption about where those hoses go is incorrect.

You don't have a hose going out to the wastegates from the controller if you
just tapped it in where the stock boost control solenoid goes.  That DOESN'T
go to the wastegates, it vents back into the intake to allow the real boost
control system to show a lower level of pressure to the wastegates resulting
in more boost.

You need to tear out the lines and "H" connector (or at a minimum plug them)
that used to go to the stock boost control solenoid.  Then you need to tap
your new boost controller into the line that comes off the Y-pipe to feed
the boost control system, before the "H" connector.

"Best" way is to remove the H connector, splice a "Y" connector in there in
its place leading to the two lines that go to the wastegates, splice in
another line leading to the output from your new boost controller, connect
the line that used to go between the Y pipe and the H connector into the
input of the boost controller.

What were your numbers before (w/ 550s)?  These are with 15Gs and race gas,
I assume?   Have you done any runs at 1.0 bar where you would have an idea
what hp that would equal?
Thanks

So how about scanning that dyno sheet and showing us? Also, how about
a list of relavent power mods? These would be greatly appreciated on
this technical list. I would be happy to post your scanned dyno run
at my web site if you want. In fact, I would be happy to post any AAM
dyno run if someone would just show us one. I haven't found any at
their site yet.

Removal of the trany does not have to affect alignment! It depends on
the removal method and skill of the mechanic. Ken Wheeler and I have
instructions at my web site for trany removal that does NOT affect
alignment at all. But Jason is right that the mechanic may have
screwed up. The transaxle must be removed to replace the clutch. To
remove the transaxle the two front driveshafts must be removed. To
remove the driveshafts the lower control arms must be disconnected
from the frame. The mechanic may have also unneccesarily seperated
the ball joint and who knows what else. The problem could lie there.
The alignment is something the mechanic should have checked and fixed
(if needed) before returning the car to you.

Subject: Team3S: Transfer case

This request for advice may be a bit off topic but please bear with me.

I removed my transfer case after it froze up last week.  I have had my car
back from an complete engine replacement\rebuild for about 3 weeks.  Once I
got it off I found that the transfer case casing was cracked and someone had
tried to put some JB Weld or similar adheasive on it to stop it from
leaking.  Well it didnt stop the leak and my case locked up due to lack of
lube. Bearings are all trashed. its a mess. My output shaft from the tranny
shows some wear as well.

Can I hold the shop that removed and replaced the engine, tranny and x-fer
case responsible?
I am sure they would just deny doing it but it never leaked before it went
to them.

Any advice on how I should pursue this?  thanks in advance.

Subject: Team3S: New Clutch

As long as everyone is on the topic of clutches I thought that I'd ask a
quick question.  My clutch is slipping more than I ever thought possible.  So
I guess it's time to tap the bank account and get a new clutch.  What kind
should I get and how much will it cost me?  How much will it cost to have
installed?  I have a 1992 Stealth ES DOHC.  Also is it mandatory to get it
done at a shop, or are there some miraculous instructions that would make it
possible for one of my friends in mechanic school to do it.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Just wanted to warn you about the ATF/oil "fix".  Please read the message

This has NOT worked for me.  I have done this twice now, both times 4qt
Mobil 1 10W30 / 1qt Quaker State 4x4 Synthetic-blend ATF.  Both times the
ticking has gone away while the ATF was in there and both times it has
returned immediately after changing back to 5qt Mobil 1 (tried both 10W30
and 0W30, both with same result).  First time I left it in for several
hundred miles, second time I left it in for 3,000 miles.

I have also tried the BG fuel injector cleaner, as well as the GM EOS in the
crankcase (as recommended by a fellow list member who this worked for).
Neither of these helped the ticking whatsoever.

I'm stumped.

You can do the same thing for the cost of an oil change plus 1 Quart of
Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Next oil change, leave out 1 Quart of regular oil, and substitute 1 Quart of
any brand ATF.  The ATF has a higher detergency, and will clean out any gunk
that may be in the lifters or any other part of the engine.  This is totally
safe, and the lifter tick will go away almost immediately.  Leave it in
there for a while, and you will have a super clean engine.  Next oil change,
replace with standard synthetic oil (Mobil1 seems to be one of the best)

You guys are awesome!!

I forgot to mention something the mechanic told me.

I have this ticking noise that ticks along with my engine revving.
It is really noticeable when the car is idling.  The guy told me it was
something called the "Lifter" he says it is with all Mitsus and that
he can do something with or around the oil and it will clear it up.
Do you guys know what he is talking about?  He will do it for 50 bucks and
it would be nice to not have the tic but if it will mess up my engine in the
process I am not interested.  Thanks again!!
