Subject: Team3S: Simple antenna/fog light questions

Hi everyone, i have two simple questions.  One: Do power antennas have
some type impact sensor?  I just replaced the mast on my car, because the
cable broke, and now when i turned the radio, it wont always come up, i
usually have to slam the door or go over a bump for it to come on.   The
other question is, how do you turn the fog lights only?  I ve tried every
switch in different ways, but i always need to turn on the head lights for
the fog lights to come on.. any comments?  Thanx in advance..

I would say that you have a loose connection somewhere.
The antenna should always go up when the radio is turned
on.

Correct, in the US models (3000GT) the headlamps are
required in order to turn on the fog lights.  This is
not the case in the Japanese imported models (GTO).

There are a number of "modifications" that will get
around this problem, you may like to have a look at
the www.3si.org, www.3000gt.com sites to see if it
is mentioned there.

The predator or Odyssey battery.

Lightweight and has more cranking amps than a regular Optima battery. Non
spillable and thus can be sent via UPS. Company is located in Ontario or
Ottawa, Canada.

The New Optima Red Top has 1050 AMP !!!!! Of course, on our cars this
cranking power is not needed, hehe.

I have this gel-battery in all my cars and it's the best I ever had.
Smaller and more powerful than the stock sized batt.

Subject: Team3S: re: Front wheel clunk

I too have/had(comes and goes, I love those problems!) this happen to
my 92 Stealth RT/TT. I even had a 3/S person (I think John Basol?)
test drive my car, but of course, it didn't do it much when HE drove
it. I can't figure out why it does it, or what starts it. It can
happen when the car is still cold, after hard breaking, after
turning... but nothing in particular seems to set it of.

When I lifted the front of the car, and turned the wheel, there was
the normal "slop" in the differential before the other wheel start to
turn (opposite direction of course). However, this slop also sounds a
bit "crunchy" at times... a noise (painful... poor car) comes from
either the CV itself or the part where it goes into the tranny. It's
the passenger front wheel area that does this...

The CV's aren't torn, but I guess they could have gone bad
regardless... the ball joint looks ok, and I put new tie rod ends on
too (that cured a LOT of my loose steering play that I had when I
bought the car. If you get info on this problem, I would like to hear
about it! Thanks.

Hello =)

I have very recently started hearing a clunk near my front left wheel.
It is very infrequent, doesn't necessarily need hard braking, but is
common when braking or turning.  It seems as if it 'sets' in one
position, then when I accelerate in the opposite direction, it clunks
again, like it was going back into place...  Example:  I will hear a
clunk while turning, and it will stay that way until I first hit the
brakes.  Or, I will hear it clunk when almost at a stop, then again
when
I let off the brake to accelerate.  One tech told me this is ball
joints
- - - any thoughts?  What does it take to repair?  I'm an engine and
tranny
guy, not chassis yet!

Thanks!

Roger said "Then of course the water boiled as it

Is this true? The ECU has the ability to shut down stuff to save the
engine? I mean, I know it's possible, but I didn't think a car
manufacturer would implement this... I know DSM's don't do that, but
it's neat to think that the 3/S's would...

This was not stated correctly by me ! The ECU doesn't shut off the engine
as when it overheats it should idle for letting the water circulatiing. On
our overheating problem we had on the #4 cyl. the ECU did nothign at a ll
but the water wasn't yet at the boiling point. On my car I made the
experience that the egine light comes on and the rpm cannot get above 3000
rpm for a sepcific time (I guess about 3 minutes, logn time ago...)
anymore. The effect was that the ignition was cut fully, just dead, tach
went out and I was rolling out. When starting it again the engine light was
on and it sounded like you drive only on 4-5 cyls, i.e. what means that the
ECU sits on the emergency maps for fuel and ignition. Idelign brought down
the temp within a minute and then driving around cleared the code (there
was nothing stored afterwards !!!!) and everythng felt the same (besides of
the broken pistons).

My mechanic once told me that the temp and knock is observed but not the
oil ! Hmmm, why not ??

Subject: Re: Team3S: ANOTHER oil leak

There is an oil seal in the transaxle where each front driveshaft
inserts into it. These can leak if worn or damaged. I imagine the
seal itself is not expensive. You can replace them yourself by:
- - remove the intake hoses and other stuff above the driveshaft
- - remove the passenger-side wheel
- - remove the plastic covers in the wheel well
- - remove the lower connections of the control arm (see my web site
and the trany removal instructions)
- - have one person pull out on the rotor/control arm while you pop the
drivshaft out with a pry bar. Don't damage the splines or CV boot!
- - pry out the seal
- - install new seal with the correct tool - Mitsu or home-made.
- - put everything back together - manual recommends a new spring
C-clip on the driveshaft, be sure the shaft pops back in.

Also, I have observed my transaxle to leak at both driveshaft seals
when it was overfilled. Bringing the oil level back down corrected
the problem.

Okay, just finished fixing an oil leak from the oil pan...now I
notice that the tranny is ALSO leaking oil at the passenger side
drive shaft input. What would cause this and is this fixable?  Also,
how much for parts?

I want to avoid purchasing NEW ones as Im going to just destroy them.

Probably just a dirty throttle body, or a dirty/bad Idle Speed Control (ISC)
motor.

I've checked the fuses for the alarm etc. . . and they are OK. I'm hoping

In terms of measured PSI, is there a REAL difference between

I'm concerned if the difference at 1 bar is in reality closer to 16psi
because of an incorrect boost measurement.
Any thoughts?
