RE: Team3S: Factory alarm
Dale,
I have had problems with my alarm
too. The door switches are really cheap
and I had to take mine apart to
clean and lubricate them a couple of times.
Also, the mounting bracket for
the hood switch is made from a strip of metal
only slightly thicker than tin
foil. I had to bend mine up again to stop my
alarm from going off at
3:00AM and making my neighbors really like me. I
think it probably got
bent while the mechanic was replacing my clutch. My
apologies if you
have already tried these fixes.

Dave Holden

Problem diagnosis needed
Hey guys,
Any clue what my problems could
be. I noticed a whine noise (sorry best
way I can describe it) the other day
while cruising at about 80-90 mph
up hill. It was the first time I heard it.
At first I thought it was
tranny related, and then heard it again in second
between lights at
about 3,500 rpm during acceleration. I looked under and
noticed I had
some leakage and wasn't sure if it was tranny oil or engine
oil. I
brought my stealth into the shop and was diagnosed with master
clutch,
booster, and slave problem. The pump seal broke and all clutch
fluid
exited. I got it back today and it still makes that noise!!?? It
appears
mostly in second at 3,500 rpm but sometimes in first. When it
appeared
in first it didn't recur in second. The only mods I currently have
is a
S&B conical filter. The noise today sounds to come retro from the
engine
like about mid to rear of car. Not as bad as it was the other day in
the
sun about 96 and humid (I drove it at night today 70 and cool). I
was
concerned about turbos at first, but power is good with no change.
The
noise seems to come as maximal air is sucked into the filter
(just
installed a month ago). Could this be additional air and back
pressure
that the exhaust (stock can't deal with)? No warning lights or
anything.
Help?@!

The sunroof in my '97 base coupe creaks when I go
over bumps
or turn corners at decent speeds. Is this
a common problem? There
is no leakage of air or
water. If I bump the roof back about 1/8 an
inch it
stops making the noises. Catch to that being that it
then
makes wind noise. Does it sound like a simple
adjustment, or is there
possibly some body stress?
Has anyone here had this problem before?
I
have been all over the web looking for specs on the
various years and models
of 3000GTs. I can not find
one web site that lists all of the
information I am looking
for. 3000GT.com would be the place to go, but
90% of
the links do not work.
Is there any place I can go to get all
of the specs and
possibly list prices for all of the variations on
the
3000GT from '91 to '99? Any help would be
appreciated. I'm
trying to determine which year of VR4
I need to set my sights on for when I
pay off my base
coupe. Thanks in advance for you help.

I've read many posts
relative to this problem, and almost every one is the
result of the blowoff
valve making more noise because the filter setup has
changed. It always seems
to kick in around 3500 RPM but is referred to as
more of a honk than a whine.
The bottom line is, there really is no problem
other than the annoying
noise.

The annoying noise (honk) and a complete
loss of boost that just leaked out
of the faulty factory BOV. The cheap cure
is a first gen BOV for a DSM but
that requires a flange mod to vent back
into the intake. Otherwise use of a
double chamber BOV like HKS or I used
the the apex. Sometimes, if you vent to
atmosphere, your engine will
go lean because the ECU has incorporated that
air. The first gen mod is best
to prevent this but my apex double chamber has
no problem at all with drop
off even venting to atmosphere.

When looking for useful information
about our cars on the web, you might
want to start from our own Team3S
website. We have 70+ pages of the
latest information and techniques,
and over 700 pages of searchable
archives, updated every day or
two...
The list prices, and current wholesale/retail used prices for ALL
years
of Stealth and 3000GT are on our site... Find it from our FAQ
page -
it's under "The Basics - Info for 'Newbies' " section...
We
also have all the specs for all years and models of the 3S line, but
it's
still being edited, and has not yet been put up on our website.
Check the FAQ
pages again in a day or two. It will be under "Basics",
too.
The
best years for both Stealths and 3000GTs are 1994 to 1996. The
last
year for AWS was '96, and years that followed marked a number of
other
discontinued features and unwelcome styling changes. Arguably,
the best
year was 1994, considered to be so because of the best combination
of
features, styling, and "moddability".
We'd like to suggest that
everyone check our Team3S FAQ pages
*frequently*. Our website is always
current, and is being added to on a
weekly (and sometimes daily) basis.
It is also the fastest website,
since we are FREE and don't allow
advertising, and we don't use
ponderous "bells and whistles" code. (Our
only banners are from
owner-members, and those are only on the "preferred
vendors" pages,
"coming soon to a theatre near
you...").

Hello
everyone, I got really ... really sick of HOTMAIL. They were
losing my posts,
deleting my emails, filling up with too much junk
(and only a 2mb limit!),
and bouncing people (I even got an email from
an AOL person saying that I
SUCKED, because I blocked their email
address, and if they new (that's how
they spelled it) my address they
would send the CD back and never use it
again... all this for a dumb
"MAILER DAEMON" message to their account from
stupid hotmail!).
SO, I decided to utilize the tools I already had, just
never
implemented, I now have POP access, and as such, my new "3/S
related"
email address is
stealthtt@ecanfix.com . If you have
emails related to
CD's, the
gimmiemymanual@hotmail.com address
is still valid, I will
keep using THAT one for a long time. Hopefully now, I
will be able to
answer posts quickly and efficiently, and my "sent emails"
will not be
"delayed" (something that I have seen hotmail doing more and
more
recently).
Anyway, that's one thing that's new... the other, this
weekend(lots of
fun!), we installed a hallman boost controller on a
relatively stock
94' 3000gt. We don't have a permanent boost gauge installed
in it yet
(no vdo's in stock anywhere! if you know/have one, please mail
me),
but we did hook mine up to a T and a line to under the hood and
the
windshield wiper. Set it to 14-15psi in 3rd gear (full load), and
the
car just flies! (plus it looks like a muscle car with the gauges
out
on the hood/windshield :) just kidding, it was temporary so we
could
"Set and Forget" the boost controller)
In fact, Mike, the owner
(and I) was really surprised to see it break
the rear tires loose around a
turn, scared me a bit, but hell,
obviously it's making some power! Yay! Later
on, he and a BPU'ed supra
went out for a street race. The Supra is an a/t,
running 23-25 psi!
His car is only putting out 15psi at most. Well he lost
twice by about
3 car lengths, but I would still say that was very respectable
for
adding what, 200$ of stuff to a stock 3/S? Wow! (not to mention
the
fact that if it was even slightly raining, like it had been
earlier,
the 3/S would have rocked! :)
He has an APEX Sequential BOV,
I understand it's "dual chambered". Can
someone tell me how this damn thing
works? And how it allows him to
vent to atmosphere, and not stall when off
throttle? It sounds really
wicked... and I usually don't care about stuff
like that.
Just for kicks I pulled the 1gDSM BOV off the MAF tube,
plugged the
tube, and drove around for the rest of the day with it venting
to
atmosphere. While it's fun to hear all that noise (and
intimidate
anyone around you!), it sucks that half the time my car will
stall
when rolling to a stop. I have an SAFC, and heard that it's
possible
to vent, yet retain drivability, how does one do
this?
Obviously, between shifts on a vented car, the ECU will run
REALLY
rich for a second, because it dumps in fuel for a certain amount
of
air it had counted (which is now gone/vented). So what fixes
this?
Thanks for listening!

If I remember offhand, Firestorm Red's color code (on the data
plate under the hood) is R25. The actual option on ordering through a
dealer was PE7.
If you decide on a auto body shop using PPG system
paints, I can assure you they will match- their system is derived from the
factory colors from every auto manufacturer, and any mistakes in final tone are
that of the man in the spraybooth. PPG has matching colors for all the
colors of 3/S, by the actual color code, and if I remember correctly, were used
as the factory original mixtures.
Anyways, there's your info, and
I wish you luck in the finishing process-
