Hey, Nick,

Admin Jim Matthews has some good ideas (diagrams too) on one of his
pages.  You might want to take a look...:

Anyone read the article yet?  It has some pretty wicked stuff on it that
allow it low 11 second 1/4 mile passes.  Some of the more notable mods are:

HKS GT2835 ball bearing turbos
HKS 680cc injectors
HKS EVC Pro (you guys seen the price on this yet...woah...)
HKS F-Con V
HKS Hiper Damper Coil overs
"OEM AP Racing brake system"

I didn't know HKS made an F-Con V and Hiper Dampers for our cars.  All I can
say is DAMN.  Btw, this is a daily driven GTO in Japan...which means no roll
bar so it can't drag in the U.S.

Having trouble. I got an adapter hub from Ultraperformance that fits the
spline pattern just fine. The problem is the adapter won't fit unless I
permanently remove the clock spring. Am I asking for trouble losing the
clock spring, or is it only an airbag device?  Also, it looks like I'll have
to splice back under the dash to reconnect the horn because of the way the
wiring passes though the clock spring.

Anyone installed one of these and have any insight?

I'm looking for some help from some of you guys that have done a lot of
mods to your stealth/3000GT. I am planning on upgrading to the 550 cc
injectors, and am a bit puzzled by the price variance from different
suppliers of the injectors for our cars. I have seen them listed as a
HKS product from $900-$2,000. I was told by one tuner that Nippon
supplies the injectors to HKS and they can be gotten from them for
about  $600 much cheaper then from HKS. Are they the same injectors? How
much is reasonable for good injectors? I apologize if I have missed a
past posting on this issue.

If you are considering upgraded injectors..shoot for 720s.

550s ARE larger, but with anything more than a moderate turbo upgrade, you'll
run outta injector again. (using 80% as a maximum duty rate)

Ryan,

Yup, you are correct.
I removed the clock spring to install the new Momo wheel.
You will loose the air bag, self canceling turn signals, and the horn
connection.
I didn't bother with trying to make the horn work, but I think you have the
right idea of splicing into the wiring
harness. Just make sure that you add enough wire so that it can wrap around
the column about 3 times.

Subject: Team3S: Atlanta area newbie with mod questions

Hi list!  Let me start with saying I am very glad to find this list, and I
hope to gather some information without being too annoying.  :)

I recently (May 14th, 2000) became the proud owner of a '97 3000GT base
coupe.  I love the car, but after these few short months of driving it, I
have come to want more power from it.  What are some of the more common mods
that can be done to the SOHC enigine to give it a little more get up and go?
The main reason I am asking here is due to my total lack of mechanical
aptitude (more from not knowing than not being able to do).  I would prefer
to have a professional in my area (Atlanta) do the work, but I wanted to ask
the experts (you guys) on what I should have done.  I don't want to race it
seriously, I just want to bust the occasional Mustang / Camaro off the line
when the mood hits me.

All in all I just want a little more spunk in the take off, and a little
more ease of acceleration at the 100+ mph area.  It seems to strain after
hitting 100.  Is this common?

Sorry if this is an ill formatted post, hopefully I will be able to ween the
posts down to pertinent content as my experience here grows.  Thanks in
advance for any help you guys can offer.

As I see six 550cc injectors will only produce 490hp (crank) at 80% duty, at
40psi static pressure (at 10psi it would still be measured as 40psi, because the
FPR adds 10 to compensate..etc)

Im not sure what the stock fuel pressure is, but it cant be much more than
43-48psi (minor difference, maybe 10hp)

If yer going for the mods associated with larger injectors, why not spend only a
few bucks more, and get massive overhead with 720s instead.

Stock base fuel pressure is 43.5 psi
550's are good for around 457-496hp at 80%
660's are good for around 549-595hp at 80%
720's are good for around 598-649hp at 80%

The variance is due to no real numbers on what out engines BSFC is so I just
used .507-.55 which seems to be a educated guess. Am I the only one who
loves doing the math for max HP with injectors? I'm a twisted, twisted man!

Oops...as far as I know HKS injectors are just remarked Nippon Densos. I'm
not sure if HKS puts any time into them flow matching or spray pattern
testing them though. $600 for Nippon Denso's is a very good price! Which
tuner is that?

At BSFC of 0.55 (normal for turbo engines) the lowest figures are correct !

> loves doing the math for max HP with injectors? I'm a twisted, twisted
man!

No, I made an excel sheet a year ago that really helped over the days ;-))

Under the line, it's a price question as the RC720 (Bosch) are much more
expensive than the RC550 (Lukas ?). The HKS units are normally a little
bored out and flow/pattern matched. Just the same what RC does ! The normal
720cc Densos can be had for around $120 each on the market. Just make sure
you get the right ones that fit our cars.

Before one asks, no I do not support increasing fuel pressure because tuning
in a fuel controller simply becomes an almost impossible task and getting a
good idle would be close to a big win in Las Vegas. Also spray pattern will
be degraded !
