Interesting information on WHY you dont see a VR4 in the SCCA TransAm
series, the Speedvision Cup..etc..

The SCCA has banned AWD Turbocharged cars..because they exhibit extreme
advantage on a road course.

Blame it on the Audi FOUR door 5-banger single turbo sedan from the late
80s.

*grin*

Gotta put 'BANNED IN THE USA' on our team car.

Surely some of you have had this mod done.  I plan on upgrading my turbos
and fuel system and that's it.  I currently have K&N, exhaust, boost
controller.  Would the G-force give me OEM type driveability with the new
fuel upgrades?  I know that if I upgraded further that I would probably have
to get a new one, but I'm not worried about that.  I have heard some pretty
good things about the ARC ... does anyone use the VPC & SAFC currently or
previously with upgraded turbos, fuel system, etc and had it have good daily
driveability in low rpms, mid, and high as well as partial throttle, etc?
Jack T. : did you use VPC, and are you currently running it?

Does anyone know if cleavite makes H series bearings for our motors? Or
will stock be fine to use? My plans are to have the crank [2 bolt]
reconditioned and nitrated, aftermarket pistons and rods [any
suggestions ?] .Evrything will be balanced and blueprinted. For the
cylinder heads should I use aftermarket SS valves or knew stock? Felpro
gasket set better than mitsu stock? On another note will anyone from the
club be at norwalk this coming weekend for the Diamond Star shootout?

Greg,

Clevite makes the 77 bearings for the 6G72, don't know about the H
series. I have links to the Clevite web site at my web site. Contact
then and let us know. I would recommend NOT using the stock bearings.
Go for the harder Clevite 77s.

Be sure to have the any used crank or rods magnafluxed to check for
defects. Of course have all bottom end components static and
dynamically balanced. Rather try to nitride a stock, 1st-gen,
cast-iron crank just use a reconditioned one or go for a new 2nd-gen,
steel-surface-treated crank. The cranks are not the problems on our
cars. The rod bearings are the usual items to fail first. My
understanding is that for our 1st-gen crank the bearing width is too
narrow for our loads. The 2nd-gen cranks have a harder surface which
may help this situation. Otherwise, our 1st-gen crank and rods are
stout enough for 500 HP easy.

Our heads are already pretty good (except maybe for the lifter noise
complaints). I'm not sure SS valves would help much, but certainly
anything that lightens the valve train is good. My reading has
suggested lighter retainers (like titanium alloy) are one the best
upgrades for reducing reciprocating mass. Mitsu stock head gasket
kits are fine. Roger G. has suggested using a smaller-than-stock
clearance for valve guides.

Good luck with your rebuild and let us know how it turns out.

Subject: Team3S: Eiback Lowering springs for sale

I bought a set of Eibach pro series lowering springs for my 1993 3000GT NT
about a year ago.  Decided it still isnt low enough for me and I will be
purchasing an adjustable suspension setup for it instead.  I would like to
get $200 for the set of springs.  Paid $275 if I remember right.  I am open
to offers if anyone is interested.

PS  How can I get my Non Turbo to go faster?  I put the K&N Filtercharger
system on it already.  Ive heard the new chips are producing problems a few
months after installation.  Anyone had good luck with any performance
products?
Thanks guys

Subject: Team3S: Feel a popping in clutch pedal

Lately I've felt a sort of popping or notch in the clutch pedal.  i can sort
of hear it but it's not loud.  Another wierd thing is that sometimes the
engage point for the clutch changes.  For example, when I sit at a
stoplight, the engage point is near the floor.  When I gas the car such that
boost is positive, the engage point gets further away from the floor.  Also,
say I am at a stoplight, if I pump the clutch pedal till I feel resistance a
few times, the engage point gets further from the floor.  It's strange and
it's troubling me since I just got this bucket of bolts back together.
Perhaps it's the clutch booster?  Air in the system?  I might try bleeding
it later if I find the time.  Could it be something related to when I took
the engine and tranny out?  Vacumn leak somewhere?  I really have no clue so
I thought I'd just see if anyone else has had a similar situation.

Thanks again,
Chris

Mentioning clutches does anyone know how hard (stiff) a VR4 should have?
I bought my 91' and it felt VERY stiff compared to my Eclipse and
Celica. I made the dealer throw into the deal fixing it. Well they have
replaced the booster and master cylinder and it still feels stiff. Is
this normal? Thanks,

Yes.  Your VR4 is about 1000lbs heavier than those other cars (loaded).

The stock clutch is stiff..actually, not heavy enough.

I havent removed a single relay or sensor..now car wont start...I dont hear the

sounds like your throw-out bearing could be going if you hear a grinding
noise.  If it's squishyness (is that a word?) then air in your lines is a
good bet too.  Have you checked the fluid level?  It's a small cylinder
right next to the master cylinder (in the corner on the driver's side.
