I sent my group purchase
RPS Turbo Carbon in to RPS for a checkup prior to
installing in my car ----
the new improved 6 puck disk was returned. It has
alternating pucks of
carbon fiber [ black stuff anyway ] and a bronze
looking
material [
somebody said ceramic ]. If looks count for anything it should
be
a
winner.
I plan on installing it next month, but with only 400 hp I
won't be able to
give it
a proper thrashing. If any of you big HP guys get
it installed let us know.
BTW, are any of the other performance cars using
the same clutch or are we
the test group
???

If you really
mean the pressure sensore like the MAP then it's just not
there because only
the 98/99 Mitsus do have a MAP installed for vacuum
readings.
But I
think it's the "barometric pressure sensor" wire you are looking for.
This is
the same on every car and is the orange wire that goes to pin 65 at
the ECU
connector. But I do not understand why you have to cut it
???

There is always a way if there
is the money.
The answer is simple : It's just too expensive and too much
work to make an
NA car into a turbocharged car. Why spending that much money
for still
having less power than trading it in for a VR4 ? There may be some
small
advantages but investing about 6-8 grands for a setup that maybe
wouldn't be
stable is much more dangerous than getting a car that is already
built that
way.

Clutch Improvement, 11.219 at 124 no NOS
I installed the "new and
improved" RPS pressure plate--now a true ~2900
lb unit (older ones were only
2400 lbs) and the 6 puck sprung hub disc,
with 3 carbon and 3 ceramic pucks,
on a stock flywheel. It works great
so far! Power handling far
better than the older RPS clutches, yet it
is easy to drive and slip from a
standing start on the street/everyday.
It is not juddery, you don't have to
rev to 1500rpm to get a clean start
on the street.
I have been hoping
to avoid having to get the OS Giken or Mueller
twin-disc clutch/flywheels,
which cost around $2000 and are costly to
rebuild (Mueller said just
replacing the twin discs is $700, though they
last a long time they
said). As for having the OS Giken
rebuilt/repaired, it takes months to
get one from Japan and nobody knows
about parts/repair ability so I am humbly
afraid of that situation
unless forced to it.
I'm thinking of trying
an aluminum flywheel with a steel facing on it.
Mueller makes one, but on DSM
list there are reports of the Mueller
units warping, and tearing out the
facing due to not enough rivets (Tym
Switzer at Buschur racing said he had
this, and Marcus Passante at
Magnus Motorsports said in DSM Digest he was
"backing up what Dirk said"
that it happens to Mueller units in his
experience also--"one on an RX7
warped like a banana").
Wonder if McLeod
makes aluminum/steel faced flywheels for our cars? Who
makes the one
Stillen offers for our cars?
Anyway, with new RPS clutch making 4 passes
in my 94 VR4, did a best of
11.219 @ 124.63 mph; best mph 125.10...nitrous
not on car. This takes
the 'quickest non-NOS run' on the "Fastest List"
away from Adam Weltz
who is MIA...

ps I MAY be
selling my two Bozz Speed Chrome-Moly flywheels. I think
they are great
for roadracing, but may not be as good for dragracing. I
have a new one
and a used one that needs turning. Reply to
xwing@execpc.com if
interested.

Thanks Arty, Jim, Matt M. etc!
60 foot was not so bad, not so
good. With the Ground Control suspension
setup and "semi-roadrace,
semi-streetable" alignment with -1 front/-0.5 rear
camber the traction is not
so great for drags with my roadrace tires, so
that was a 1.819 60
foot. It actually will spin (some of) the tires now,
which is new for
me. Mods are pretty standard fare, but I've been advised
by Warren
Johnson not to just broadcast a complete list of skunkworks
information so
easily :) that takes all the mystery out of it! Us
"Independents" who
can't take all this $$$ off as a tax writeoff like
Buschur Racing, Extreme,
Altered, Accelerated, Dynamic et al. have a right
to keep a little to
ourselves, IMO. But there is little mysterious about
it...others
have gone the same mph area for some time.

Team3S: Check Engine Light - Uh-Oh
My car is due it's 60k service. Just
waiting for some parts. Took it for
a 2.5 hour run to a friends house and
while there we went for a rip.
Full on accel. in 2nd up to redline and I
noticed a severe lack of power
although I was getting full boost. Once I hit
third I eased off the
power and the Check Engine light came on for 2 secs,
went out and then
came on for 2 secs again. All gauges were reading correctly
and it
didn't come on again until this morning on the drive back while doing
a
steady 60mph in 3rd it came on for 1 sec and went out again. I'm
leaving
the car off the road now until the service and hopefully the problem
is
minor and will go away after the service and boost controller are
fitted
(setting it to .9bar max).
Good Points:
Oil Pressure
Perfect
Temp Perfect
Oil on dipstick clean and full
Coolant level
full
Boost buildup smooth and up to 1bar then bleeding off smoothly
to
.4-.6bar depending on gear
Bad Points:
Accelerate and then let
off throttle and the car is jerky while revs
drop
Intake noise has gotten
odd and screechy sounding and there is a
definite screech from what I assume
is the BOV on throttle release at
4500rpm
Fuel cut coming in just over
1bar (previous owner has removed boost
controller but I have a new one
ordered).
Anyone recognise anything in my description??
thanks in
