The coolant lines run through the bottom of the TB, where the
air by-pass valve is. I don't know for sure, but I imagine the
only effects are to heat the air at idle (the air by-passing the
throttle plate), which could be helpful in cold weather or maybe
for emissions. I don't think the TB itself has a water jacket
around the hole thing so heat transfer at speed with
fast-flowing air is probably negligable. I doubt there would be
much of a performance improvement from removing the lines. Just
my 2¢ worth :) But let us know what you find out.

Subject: Team3S: Throttle Body Question

I was wondering why coolant is routed through the throttle body
and possible ill effects by removing it.  I'm not sure why this
is even done.  I'm certain that the throttle body and
intercooled boost is lower than the coolant temp (190F+),
therefore the coolant is ever-so-slightly warming up the intake
charge.  I'm assuming the coolant circulates at
normal operating temps, if it doesn't then removing the water
may not help.

Before I do anything, I want to understand why it is there, I
don't want to have any driveability issues.  I have a couple
theories, but I'm just not sure.

Thanks,

$162 plus tax plus shipping. Tire Rack has them for $171  plus shipping.
Are these good prices? I think I remember somebody quoting 032Rs at $135 a
few weeks ago. Or maybe it was my medication.

Is there any other tire I should be considering for my 3800 lb beast? I see
that BFG G-Force tires are under $200 at Tire Rack, but I don't know which
of these is the hot tire for open tracking. They list about four different
models. Kumhos also are running about $135-$145.

I'm looking to buy a set of 17"X9" Hart rims with the G Force 255X40. I was
thinking about 18" rims but the damn tires are about $50 apiece more.
One drawback to the R compound shaved tires is that they apparently don't
give as much advance warning when they lose traction.
Talk to Dave he gave me some good advice !!

PS. spend an extra $15 and get them heat cycled.

Subject: Team3S: Notchy Shifter - update

Hello again..

I've had two tranny shops and dozens of auto experts (I work for Delphi
Automotive) shooting ideas at me for fixing my notchy tranny problem
(note repost at end of message).  So far, I've had solutions ranging
from replace the flywheel, to adjust the clutch (petal), to replace the
tranny (again).  I had a lot of 3000/S owners tell me that they have
adjusted their clutches to resolve this - mine does seem to be way out
of whack -- but, I don't grind going into reverse, a problem which would
be an indicator of a clutch not disengaging.  It only grinds going into
first, and feels 'notchy' moving into any gear (running or not).  Well,
we looked at shifter linkage, it seems fine, I did the clutch booster
test - fine - the clutch was bled only a week ago, and did not help at
all.  Oh, and yes, the flywheel was turned....

Question:  For those *who have adjusted their clutch petals*, how are
they now?  Is the petal still in spec?  Does the clutch seem to be
slipping at all?  Anything else odd noticed?
I'm quite weary as it may mask another problem - the real cause so to
speak...

All assistance is appreciated!

BRAND NEW (reman) Getrag from MD Auto and RPS Turbo Clutch

Posting 1 ---

I have a newly installed Getrag from MD Auto (reman), RPS Turbo Clutch,
and am experiencing a VERY notchy shifter problem - whether running or
not, it feels as if I am pushing the shifter thru a spring.  And, if the

car is running, I occasionally get a grind going into first or even
second (NOT a synchro problem!!! I'm sure!).

Posting 2 ---

Are you keeping in mind that my car _feels_ the same way when it is
off?  My
local tranny expert told me that this rules out clutch.  But, I do know
(but
not understand) that if the car is off and you try to shift it, it is
very
difficult w/o depressing the clutch.  Therefore, if the clutch is
mechanically
not disengaging, even when the car is off I would feel this notchy
feeling -
but I'm not the expert!!

Depends on the car Jeff.

The Supra runs a rather long path of hot water thru the intake manifold itself,
and results in a much hotter plenum.

Its really only there to prevent icing in the colder climates as far as anybody
can guess that Ive talked to.

Those are great skins.  They are basically a street legal racing tire.  They
should work decent in the rain on a track, and last long enough to use on
the street.  Might be a little slick in standing water, but that's what
driving is all about ;)

Also I have heard quite a bit about a CD that is available but don't know if that will cover the GTO models, can anyone advise me?

It's the Weldon A2005-C expensive but you'll see why.
Check the specifications & flow rates in the very last column. Two of these
may be overkill but that's the setup.

I also have a Japanese GTO handbook.  Unfortunately the english
(3000GT) version of this has not been included in the following
CD.

> Also I have heard quite a bit about a CD that is available
> but don't know if that will cover the GTO models, can anyone

The CD Manual (http://www.twingles.com/manualcd/3scd/) includes:

3000GT Manuals (91-99)
Dodge Stealth Manuals
Body Repair Manuals
Rebuild Manuals
DSM Tech Manual

I have both the physical manuals and the CD and can verify
that the CD contains an exact copy of the physical media.
I tend to use the CD version to print out pages so that I
do not mess up the physical manual when doing work on the
car (I have a Japanese import 1991 GTO TwinTurbo).

It should be noted that there is pratically no difference
between the 3000GT and the GTO (other than the American
3000GT is a left hand drive vehicle, and some cosmetic
changes in the indicators, etc).

Mitsubishi Marketing just decided not to us the GTO label
for the American market.

I hope this helps.  I am not sure on Mitsubishi's stand
on the duplication of manuals (as their business is in
making money from cars rather than service manuals...)

Cheers,
