Hi Steve,

The trailer hitch for my Stealth TT came from ACE in Canonsburgh PA 412
873-7900.

It is a D'Lan 247222 with a price tag of $179.  You'll need a tongue
which is probably the D18001 for $25 and a 1&7/8 ball for $10.95.

They hook to my trailer from Harbor Freight 800 444-3353 price of $170.

You can see the trailer on my website below.

Hope this helps.

The carbonized/wet deposits are oil ---- source is probably rings or perhaps
valve stem seals. Not sure about the source of the metallic tapping, broken or
worn rings or seals don't usually make noise. If you ran it low on oil all kinds of
evil can occur.
A compression test on the bad cylinder can give you some
insight into the problem. I assume you'll get a low compression reading, if so
a teaspoon or two of 50wt oil in the offending cylinder may cause a higher
reading --- if so it's probably the rings. the oil helps seal the worn ring for a
moment and increases the pressure. If the rings or ring lands are broken
the oil may do nothing.
Sounds like professional help is required.

Hi all,

Question: What do I disconnect to get my AC fans to run without running
the AC compressor??

I hate having to turn on the AC to get both fans to run as the switch
also makes the compressor operate.  Rotating the compressor near redline
can't be good for it.

My TT has been boiling over during road course events.  I suspect I run
lean and have high EGTemps at times.

Thanks for the info

I have the same hitch on my car --- U-Haul sells and installs them. I think the
price was $190 for the hitch and drawbar installed. They had trouble with the
installation at first --- the hitch attaches where the tie down hooks are installed
and the hooks must be removed first.

From: "Chris Maxwell" <shmacker@home.com>
Subject: Team3S: Did Compression Test - Carbon Buildup?

Okay, I did a compression test today in response to seeing that one of the
spark plugs had a lot of wet, dark sludge on it.  The cylinder with the
yucky spark plug had a compression of about 150 while all the others had
compressions of about 125.  Could this suggest that carbon buildup is the
cause of my problems?  I will restate the problem for you guys:

A couple months ago, I started to here a sort of "rattling" noise under the
hood when the engine reved from about 2000rpm to 3000rpm.  The engine was at
least 2 quarts low at the time.  (oops...I am learning though.)  I took the
car to get the oil changed and they also noticed the noise, but they said it
was more of a knocking sound.  So then I took the car to Lake Tahoe (not the
best idea, I know...) and when I was up there, the mysterious noise stopped.
On the way back, the noise came back and got much louder as I was driving.
When I pulled over half way back from the trip, I noticed the clutch was
vibrating slightly and the noise was now a loud metallic tapping sound.  It
is in sequence with the revs.  I had the car towed back to my house so I
could look at it. The sound is sort of like the "lifter tick" that most
people complain about but this is much, much louder.  I have also been a
victim of "lifter tick" but it always happens about 3500 miles after each
oil change and stops after the oil change.

So I take the front valve cover off to see if anything is floating around in
there, and it looks good.  I take the front sparks out and they look good
too.  I then take the rear sparks out and 2 of them look good but the middle
one was covered in dark, wet sludge.  Some of the sludge had hardened too.
I took the rear valve cover off and checked the lash adjusters on both the
front and rear.  They seem okay.  I did a compression test (as suggested by
you guys) and the results I have already stated.  The middle rear cylinder
was completely covered with dark stuff when I looked at it through the spark
plug hole.

So what might the problem be?  So far suggestions have been:

rod bearing went bad (I HOPE not...)
worn rings or pistons (doubtful after the compression test)
something wrong with the valves (had a valve job 20k miles ago, but I did
run the car with low oil)
lash adjusters (which I think are okay)

So a higher than normal compression in one of the cylinders usually suggests
carbon buildup, right?  Could carbon buildup cause this harsh noise that has
plagued my car?  If this is the problem, can I clean it somehow?

Thanks a bunch,
Chris Maxwell

Whats wrong with that?

Weve been pulling out trailer with two full sets of tires, tools, air
pump, tank, baby stuff...and usually whatever can be held to it with a
strap for a couple years..PLUS double-duty AutoX.

Just use gearing correctly and dont lug the motor in too high a gear.
Cant use 6th 'safely' until about 75mpmh at least.

Built the trailer myself out of 2" square tubing..nice unit.

We're talking small trailer here not a 30' travel trailer ---- If you want to go
racing you should otta have one. Spare wheels, misc brake stuff, jack, jack
stands, cooler, chairs etc. a few hundred pounds total.

PS. I dont race with the trailer on the car so abuse is minimal  ;-)

No doubt, seeing a pro is the way to go.  Jim is probably right, but
maybe you should check one other thing first...  If the middle rear
plug wire was disconnected, or decayed so that it only fired the
plug intermittently, this could cause the tapping too.  If the plug
fouling felt slimy, it might have been gas and not oil.  (If it was
sludgy, then oil is definitely the culprit).  BTW, did you *smell*
the plug?

When the plugs are replaced, and the wires are checked carefully, if
starting up and running for a while gives the same symptoms, then
Jim's suggestions apply.  (Disconnect the battery negative first, so
the ECU relearns when it's hooked back up).  But you might want to
try checking those plugs and wires first, before going right to the
heavy repairs...

Good luck,

Forrest

No.

But, last I checked on 13Gs they could be had for $650 ea.  I paid $1300 for
a pair of 15Gs a few years back.

I also see places asking $1500+ for them.

A/C Clutch Relay, located in the relay box on the driver's side in the engine compartment near the front of the car.  It's a square box with labeled locations on the top cover.  The A/C clutch relay on my car is the middle relay on the right side when looking at it from the front of the car.  Yank it out and the compressor won't be engaged when the A/C tries to fire up.

There's a bunch of diagnostic and error-detection stuff in the A/C system, so it might* turn off the fan after a while when it notices that the compressor isn't functioning if the system just disables the whole shebang.  I'd try it on the street to see how it works, but that's the way I always did it on my DSM car with no ill-effects.  I'm sure the little red dot will come on the A/C display at a minimum.
