Team3S: Pulling my engine
Hi everyone!
It's
been a while since I've posted ANYTHING, I've just been lurking
and deleting
mainly. Reason being that I haven't even uncoverd my
Stealth for about
a year now. UNTIL LAST WEEK.
Many of you may
remember my battle with the ambulance in Nov.'98:
Ambulance:
1
Stealth :

For those of you who don't, I won't bore you with
the re-hash but
suffice to say that I pretty much lost my engine as a result
of the
accident.
I've started tearing my engine
out...and suprisingly, for those who
haven't ever done this, it hasn't been
so bad. Lot's of tagging going on
so I know where everything came
from. I've just about taken everything
out of the engine bay
ecept the Trannie and the engine itself.
BUT I'M STUCK.
I can't
get the G/D Passenger side axle out of the X-mission. How is
this
accomplished? I've been real careful so far not to
"Force"
anything that doesn't want to move, but this S.O.B. WILL
NOT BUDGE. In
the manual, it shows what looks like some sort of washer
or seal or
retainer between the axle and the trannie but I'm not sure if that
has
anything to do with holding the axle in or not. PLEASE
ADVISE!!
Question two:
Is there currently a salvage yard that has
a good stock of 3/S's? I'm
going to need a few things. I
already know about EAST STREET
AUTOMOTIVE in memphis...but I haven't called
them yet

Jeff,
Why are these numbers so low?
Where did you get
them?
According to this chart, the MKIV Supra pump flows
179 lph at 40
psi, and the Cosmo/Walbro pumps aren't
much higher.
This seems odd
since the MKIV Supra pump is usually
rated at 260lph @ 43psi and 12v, and the
Cosmo is
supposed to be 250lph. Our stock fuel pump which
barely
supplies enough fuel for our maxed out 365cc
injectors is rated at 180
lph.

Team3S: Pulling my engine
It's the good old "get a longer
lever" technique. I had the same problem
when I pulled mine. The manual
showed prying the axle loose by putting a
crow-bar against a small flange on
the axle, the leveraging it out of the
tranny. I was skeptical after putting
a decent amount of force on it, and it
didn't budge. But I finally got fed up
and just wrenched the hell out of it.
It popped right out. Make DAMN sure
when you put it back that it seats
completely.

Those were tested _on_ the car having to pump thru
and use the stock
lines..(without return line restrictor)
Those are
NOT pump all by itself on the bench numbers..because those wont
match
real-life when it comes to actually moving fluid.
I will
question the guy who did those tests more.

I used a long crowbar between the tranny case and the
axle (green metal
piece). Apply preasure and it will pop right out.
Make sure that you have
the wheel assy. disconnected so the axle has room to
travel.

Team3S: Ideal Tire Sizes (along those lines)
Has anyone out there had
difficulties w/ swapping 17"
rims/tires wheels for 18"'s. I'm
contemplating
putting 18" rims/tires on my '91 R/T TT.
The
clearance space will accomodate the uprgrade but what
other issues
should I be considering (handling,
shocks, struts, dampener)?

"prying" technique
because you'll pull apart the inner CV.

Thanks for checking this out more,
Jeff.
Regardless the fact that they were supposedly tested
through
(our?) stock lines, these numbers are extremely low, as you
also
noticed. If our injectors were only getting this much fuel,
we would
probably be blowing engines left and right. Same
for the mkiv Supras
out there running high boost and thus high
duty cycles for their stock 550cc
injectors.
Furthermore, according to Mike Mahaffey, the fuel line on
our
cars is very very big (-6AN?). He has completely re-worked
the
fuel lines on his TT, so he is familiar with the whole system.
Also . .
.
Here's a portion from a post by Jack T.:
The 2 best direct
boltins:
>HKS 3000VR4 upgrade, about $400, 90 gal/h at ?45 psi; flows
up to
>160psi took me to 10's through all-stock fuel system (except

>Stock VR4 pump did
26.4 gal/h at 65psi through the DSM fuel system.
So if Jack's HKS/Cosmo
fuel pump was putting out only about
48.4 gph at 40psi (almost half the
expected fuel flow), I just can't
see how this would have been sufficient for
his 600+ hp. And
there is nearly a 3-fold difference between the DSM
figures for
the Supra pump as compared to the figures you posted.
The
Supra crowd generally considers their stock fuel pump to be good
up to
600hp (proven on the dyno).
So anyways, there's a major discrepancy here,
and I'm eager to
hear the explanation. :)

But what I have
noticed, is that when boost even _start_ it begins a WG
duty cycle...and this
keeps boost from climbing up as quick as it SHOULD.
I need some help, in
understanding more of what needs to be done to
program this to NOT open the
WG until it is _time_ to open the WG. Ive
lost a LOT of low-end torque
because the simple settings I have now..are
operating the WG even as boost
begins to spool, and Im therefore adding to
the length of time it takes to
get my 1st and 2nd gear RIP down the track.
Probly reaching max boost
500-800rpm too late.
Id like it to operate like the profec..where it can
understand when that
last possible moment is..and I think it can be done with
scramble
settings, but the manual SUCKS.
*heh*

I have more data back, and max
voltage delivered on a full stock MK4 fuel
system was about 12.5v. The
14v (what you see under boost) readings were
not determined. Im

Team3S: Tapping into ECM/Sensors
Hi everyone,
I'm looking into
creating some custom electronics - to monitor tps,
boost, g forces, tach,
etc. and feed them into a processor.
Does anyone have any tips on where to
'tap in' to such signals? I'm
considering things such as signal noise,
convenience of locating my
electronics (near the dash), and trying to
minimize any destruction of
wiring. I'm quite knowledgeable in
electronics and such, but haven't
done much with items as such, so speak
freely!
Thanks in advance!
